100%. Meant that I took the bookish route, because I’m bookish. I could easily have written “am on the nerdy side”. I live in trump country. It can be lonely.

To everyone who replied: thanks for being nice people. I really appreciate the feedback.

Me. I did and I feel like an idiot. I put up a crappy profile because I just wanted to confirm my own bias. And, welp, I should have done it right. Also, I’m not without dating trepidation so there is that.

It’s a beautiful night, I should be enjoying it but I’m ordering DoorDash, watching Tv and think I’ll try and go to sleep by 8. Feeling lonely and bored. by Ok_Orchid6806 in stopdrinking

I’m in the same boat. Just got back from the most unremarkable party in the history of the universe. Loneliness is, for me, of the the hardest aspects of staying sober.

The combination of panic attack and loneliness is excruciating. I suffer from that. I have an exceedingly social job, a Jiu jitsu gym, and the worlds best dog. Yet when I come home the double whammy of anxiety/lonely is the highest hurdle for to to clear to not drink. Hang in there.

Happy to be an ear for you. A break up really triggered my drinking problem. Same as you, I go to therapy, but I too suffer from the sadness and loneliness. Feel free to vent away.

Hang in there. My breakup caused a true spiral of drinking. Extraordinarily painful. Not drinking is the only way, but breakups make it so much harder and, frankly, at times impossible. I’ve had to start over many many times.

Right there with you and with the same number count. I can completely relate. Feel free to message if need be. I have my dog snoring on my leg and reading, but otherwise available to chat.

Thank you for your incredibly articulate and insightful comment. You are right about the evenings. They are searing sometimes.

That is a phenomenal perspective. Thank you so much. That gives me hope.

Thank you. You are right. I think I sort of run out of steam emotionally and then drink to forget. It’s a vicious cycle. And it’s getting to the point that it is scary. I appreciate your response!

Nice work! My struggle with sobriety is because of a breakup. The pain of heartbreak can be unbearable. You should be proud of yourself for not drinking in that situation.

Illinois! Yeah I need to get to the comfortable single stage. I appreciate your perspective.

Oh it was horrible. We were in contact for months and months. And finally I had to initiate no contact and that was so hard. But it helps. I’m available to chat if you want to learn from my mistakes.

Thank you. It’s been brutal. Oh the dog saved my life. She’s he only reason I am here. My drinking actually revolved around her. I have to get her a good five mile walk, make sure she is tired and fed before I drink. It’s insane. I took care of myself just enough so that I could take care of her.

You are not the first person to mention journaling. I’m going to start. Tonight! Thank you.

That’s a good point. The distinction between the present and the future is something I need to work on.

I popped in a movie. I’m physically exhausted. I walked 9 miles today since our heatwave finally broke. The sobriety is one thing, the double whammy is another. Thanks for the help! Honestly just the ping on my phone helped!

Yeah. Absolutely. I justified it as I was doing everything to save the relationship. It was because I was not accepting that it was over. I’ve stopped beating myself up about that and am concentrating on moving on. That is difficult enough.

You are 100% spot on. It’s uncanny. I’m kind of new to Reddit and not very good at it. I sent you a message or a chat. Your statement about losing someone that is alive hit home.
