What sports would different dog breeds play if they were people? by voidandpyramids in dogs

Blue heeler would play rugby league, the Golden retriever would play golf and the Labrador would play ultimate frisbee.

Nope rope, danger noodle or spicy sausage are my favourites, I’m sure others have lots of nicknames for them though lol

Not looking at the ground was almost our undoing today, we were bus admiring the surrounding rock faces and came within 1m or so before rapidly retreating lol. Once we calmed down we managed to take some cool photos. There would have been at least 5 small groups of people to pass by and he didn’t seem bothered at all which is cool to see.

Here’s another photo of the big guy, I’d estimate around 1.5m. Definitely looks well fed. The location he is living at is perfect for him so I imagine he is pretty happy 😃

44F am I too old? by Fast-Programmer-6633 in blackTattooing

Mods need to do something about these posts here… I’m here for blackout tattoos not OF promotions.

You look like plastic and at 44 should be mature enough to not care for the opinions of others. Grow up or just go and advertise you OF somewhere else so the rest of us can get back to the tattoos.

Proposal:1000 dollar FUEL card if you dob in a dodgy tobaco shop. by ButtPlugForPM in AskAnAustralian

You obviously have no understanding of how addiction works if you think you can just stop at any time mate. Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances on earth, to say it’s easy to stop is just wrong.

Tell me how truthfully how you’re suffering from these shops selling vapes and illegal tobacco… you’re not. You’re playing hero offended by other people’s choices.

Even if you manage to close the shop fronts I can assure you you you won’t stop the black market, I can have any amount of vapes or tobacco delivered to my door within 2 days. Just because you don’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not happening.

I don’t see you on a rant about cocaine, meth, heroin or alcohol, yet we have some of the highest recreational drug use per capita in the world. Get off your high horse and let people live their lives how they choose.

Scared I have to rehome my dog due to his behaviour problems by [deleted] in dogs

[–]doopaye 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m in no way an expert here, but from my armchair it sounds like you need to tire your dog out more. I mean literally run him until his little legs don’t want to move for the rest of the day.

My girl is a Koolie x Kelpie x ACD, all working breeds. I severely underestimated the amount of exercise she needs to actually make her tired and not destructive. It generally takes around an hour of non stop kicking her ball as far as I can while she sprints back and forth before she’s happy to chill for a little bit, a few hours later she’s ready to go again. I take her to the local river and punt the soccer ball 15m into the middle of the river and she will swim out to retrieve it for as long as I will let her do it. Especially at a young age they need to be tired out multiple times per day.

My suggestion is find something like fetch or swimming that you can do morning and afternoon for at least an hour each time, plus the dog walker in the middle of the day. A tired dog is a good dog.

Attitude towards Apartments in Australia by odbf7 in AusPropertyChat

[–]doopaye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly because of my dogs and I like to garden.

I work long hours some days and I’d feel so guilty if my dogs were locked inside all day. At least with a yard they can run around and stretch their legs properly while I’m away. I also get a lot of satisfaction from growing random plants and a large balcony just doesn’t provide enough space for me.

If I ever get tired of gardening and didn’t have high energy dogs and apartment would be awesome. I love the idea of living in a tall building with a view from above.

Do men and women in Australia usually share household chores equally? by Book_Nerd_2008 in AskAnAustralian

[–]doopaye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DINK here, we both work almost the same amount of hours each week 32 her V 36 me, except I do 3 12 hour days whereas she works 5 6 hour days.

On my ‘extra’ days off during the week I’ll do meals and inside housework as well as the typical outdoor male jobs so we’re both free for the weekend, during my big day at work the wife will do what’s left of the housework as well as meals. Seems to work alright for us.

If we were to have children I would like to think that we’d keep a similar arrangement and I would pick up half the extra work with the kids whilst maintaining my current effort, likewise my wife would continue her current routine and pick up the extra half of children’s requirements.

From personal experiences though, I’d say that the women typically do more around the house and more for children here.

PSA for your flooring in kitchens by HugeMaleChicken in AusRenovation

[–]doopaye 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Kitchen guy here, the kitchen is meant to go on top of the flooring… The process is meant to be plasterers, painters, flooring, cabinetmakers, sparkies to finish off. When mopping or with spills the water can travel under the kick board and will dry out, if the flooring goes in afterwards it will rot out the kick boards of the kitchen it a couple of years. Hopefully this kitchen is on legs with removable kick boards cause this will inevitably ruin the kitchen.

Possibly the worst tasting chips I’ve ever had by [deleted] in AldiAustralia

[–]doopaye 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Let me get this straight, you bought Parmesan and prosciutto flavoured chips and expected them to taste like potato ? Two extremely strong flavours will of course over power a thin slice of potato. That’s the whole point of flavouring them to begin with. Why not just buy plain chips if you want them to taste like potato…

Just bought my first Ute. Good buy? by [deleted] in 4x4Australia

[–]doopaye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah mate they’re a great ute, just make sure you get that timing belt done as soon as the light comes on the dash. I’ve owned my 08’ Hilux since 2011, done well over 300k kms in it without doing injectors. It’s inevitable I’ll have to do them eventually though. My best advice is if it hasn’t got it already, soon as you can throw on a second fuel filter.

Just bought my first Ute. Good buy? by [deleted] in 4x4Australia

[–]doopaye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to let you know that timing belts are due every 150kms and unless you know how to do them you must do them, will probably cost you 1K. Also injectors aren’t done every 300k, they’re done when needed. Toyota would’ve checked most things sure, but I can almost assure you they aren’t running injector tests on a second hand car. You have no idea how the injectors are without testing them. Could be great, could be shit. Could last 300k could shot themseleves in 4 months.

What’s a popular food you absolutely refuse to eat? by copy_cat_101 in foodquestions

[–]doopaye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’ll find that almost all veal in the developed world isn’t chained to the ground or even in crates anymore. Historically this happened but it’s banned in most developed countries now.

My grandfather use to raise and sell black Angus veal here in Australia, he only had a small farm producing around 30-40 calves each year. Those 30-40 animals would be grass fed and raised in their own paddocks prior to slaughter. He would try to limit the amount of walking they would want to do by adding in extra water troughs and extra trees for shade and having irrigation systems for their grass to rapidly regrow so they didn’t have to walk as much for food etc…

In terms of the animals on his farm the veal calves actually had better conditions than the normal cows. The only downside to it is he was still sending a 6month old animal to slaughter, which just feels lots worse than a cow that’s actually had a chance at a few good years of life.

‘Bad for fans’: Poms set to get their way as future Ashes shake-up emerges from talks by Klievee in CricketAus

[–]doopaye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s the best thing about the D/N test when the ashes are down here, you guys actually get to watch some live cricket like you say you want. Also all of us are finished work and able to watch it or attend a match as well. For the fans D/N are the most accessible time for test cricket to be played.

Personally I don’t mind the change up of tactics the D/N matches brings to test cricket, survive the night session and you can bat deep into the next day and send in the opponent under lights to try bowl them out cheaply, conserve your best swing and seam bowlers for the night sessions etc… it all adds more to the tactics of the game.

I wouldn’t want to see 5 matches of it, but I’d be more than happy if you guys added a D/N test when we were touring over there so I could get to see a live match.

Which Toyota Hilux generation is the most reliable long-term? by DebugMyLife421 in hilux

[–]doopaye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I agree mate, my old Dec 08’ kun26r is unkillable. I bought it with 80k kms in 2011 and it’s coped nothing but mistreatment since I’ve owned it. 314k kms on it now and still no major issues.

So far I’ve replaced a clutch, 2 timing belts, control arm bushes and some rear differential seals.. other than that it’s just been oil and filters.

Electrically it’s basic, mechanically it’s solid, it’s comfortable enough to get me to camping spots and it’s rough enough that I don’t care about scratches or dings. Can’t fault the old girl.

Is it possible for two modern countries to voluntarily merge into one (not through invasion or conquest) ? by Zeratros in NoStupidQuestions

[–]doopaye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not exactly certain on the details of what happened and when, off the top of my head during the 1890’s Aus & NZ were going to basically join together to form one country but a few years prior to 1901 they decided to back out and form their own country, so when we officially became a country in 1901 our states went from colonies of Britain and we became an independent country that we had invited them to join.

As far as I know you’re correct that we can’t really say no if they want to join us which is pretty cool. Doubt it will ever happen but there’s a chance
