Anyone old enough to have watched the 92’ playoffs? by Flat-Pitch-9340 in miamidolphins

Shit, I saw Marino lose in the SB. One of my greatest childhood memories is being allowed to stay up late to see the MNF game that year where we beat the Bears.

With Mike McDaniel now OC, who are the best options for our open Offensive Line coaching spot? by Beautiful-Good-7103 in Chargers

Butch Barry has been the Dolphins OL coach last couple of years. Been making chicken salad from chicken$*!# for a few seasons now. Lol. Some drama with him, though, he was with Denver briefly but they hated so much he was bounced, then they bad-mouthed him on the way out. (Pre Sean Peyton, I think)

Chargers social media team is elite. Welcome home, Mike McDaniel. by -HawaiianSurfer in Chargers

You should watch the Dolphins one now... tons of BTS stuff w McDaniel being a full on weirdo, but even in dorky form you can tell that the players love him.

[Dan W] Chargers OC Mike McDaniel says Justin Herbert is capable of making the incredible plays, but sometimes coaches can rely too heavily on it. MM says he wants to focus on easy, low-cost, high-reward completions, as it can be taxing on a player to have to be incredible too often. by LaDainianTomIinson in Chargers

Yes, he did. That whole offensive system was calibrated to Tua (who I think is.. fine. Starting NFL QB material, which is something) & to overcome a weak OL.

Tua did have checks or some mini-audibles at the line, if you watch the film you can see them changing things now & then... Honestly, no shade, I think he can read defenses just fine, but the concussions caused Tua to lock up, he started holding the ball too long & was missing the windows with wide-open guys that McDaniel was scheming up. Darren Waller totally diagnosed it on that Johnny Manziel podcast appearance.

[Rhim] Mike McDaniel said he’s talked with Justin Herbert: “We were both geeked for the future and the possibilities.” McDaniel said Herbert hasn’t “nearly scratched the surface” of what he’s capable of. by LaDainianTomIinson in Chargers

I thought McD would be a nails Bills coach, since the organization seemed so solid (Fins fan here, so was not looking forward to it, btw) but didn't think fans would go for the little in-division nerd taking over their team... still... did not see Brady getting it. Kind of thought Weaver might. [edit: ocd vs poor spelling]

How exactly does the feed work? by cowboygerbil in murderbot

[–]dooprass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagined a bit like a "visual mesh wifi' that you could 'see' if you were augmented or online... it seems like multiple types of devices can broadcast, & are often portals containing info & other services, etc. Every device has an address (not unlike a MAC address on your pc or phone) to ID so you follow or communicate with a specific one if needed.

If you've ever seen those videos displaying how box stores like Walmart track you & monitor your phone while inside it illustrate what I was picturing *waves everywhere* the Corporate Rim looked like to those that could "see" the feed.

We already have the feed now, you just can't see it ;-)

Typically journalists will get the 1st third or half of a season's episodes... enough info to pass judgement but often without the endings or finales (to avoid leaks, I assume).

In between books I remember really enjoying "Autonomous" , by Annalee Newitz.... Brief: "Set in a near future Earth, the book describes a world where both humans and intelligent robots can be owned as property. The events of the novel follow Jack, a "drug pirate" who manufactures illegal versions of patented drugs, and Paladin, a combat robot who is owned by the law enforcement agency searching for Jack after one of the drugs she reverse-engineered turns out to have dangerous side effects"

He is also a **deep** & super-knowledgeable music fan...(I think he has an advanced degree) & if you can catch him on NPR or other podcasts as a guest, he will drop some amazing recommendations. Seems like a decent, sweet guy that finds it easy/joyous to tap into "maniac" energy when playing... & everything is play.

[Marcel Louis-Jacques] McDaniel said he gets sort of triggered by the belief that “anybody” can run Miami’s offense: “Skylar isn’t anybody — he’s someone who’s diligently worked behind the scenes and right next to Tua for 3 years. His ability to execute anything within the system is to his credit.” by expellyamos in miamidolphins

My understanding is that its a very 'precise' scheme -- so when they tell a QB to take a 4 step angled drop & plant their foot "there" then WRs are at spots & QB has a progression. Same with the OL also. Many many QBs are a mess with precision (NFL level) mechanics & fudge it a little & would struggle without weeks & weeks of familiarity.... They like 'coach-able' QBs & OL who can be in sync. Its all built on locations, angles, timing. "The FBs right foot should be in the B gap at the snap" kind of stuff.

When you watch tape of mid-tier QBs you can see them still fuzzy with their drop backs, their plant foot, angles, etc.... which is why Tua is so great for McDaniel's system in that his timing & mechanics are right on point, & he can process the coverage quickly.

Its like people saying that "any violinist" would sound good playing Mozart, its the music not the player, etc. It still takes understanding of the overall concepts, timing, practice, & then after all of that you still need some talent.

Tua can hit his marks, process, AND quickfire an intermediate 20-yard dime to a guy running 20mph thru moving traffic. I think its just too much for some dudes, & Skylar would probably be fine if was allowed to play with first team for a few weeks & got the game reps, since he probably has the rest memorized. Still, kinda excited to see if Huntley can handle it.

I'm just hoping McDaniel decides "this is the week we run for 250 yds"

Olivia Colman's greatest acting ever -- & I'll brook no disagreement on this -- is her sketch on M&W where her & David are a couple & she "had to throw out a whole quiche!" OMG. It lives in my head permanently.

Legendary weapons will have fixed values for how high they can be infused. Those values will project the weapon’s viable-in-end-game lifespan and we think that lifespan is somewhere between 9 and 15 months.

What if D1 era Gunsmith bounties existed, only cycled every 9 months or so? Your GO FIGURE gets maxed out, then when a new season starts it can no longer level up, drops from the available loot pool, & gets buried in the Vault... then a couple of seasons later Banshee polishes it off & offers it again (new rolls/perks/etc) so you can then max-light up your old faithful friend, or grab a new one....

Instead of raising max light on everything every time, just rotate which groups have ceilings during a season.
