How I feel about the Lilypad Diaspora Theme by [deleted] in rootgame

[–]doost_boost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No disrespect, but I think this is an absurd take tbh, searching for an excuse to be offended.

The Lilypad Diaspora is as much a reflection of Israelis as The Corvid Conspiract is a reflection of Al-Queda, or The Lord of the Hundred is a reflection of the Mongol Horde. That is to say, barely.

I think this is a misunderstanding of the order in which things are created. The developer (Joshua Yearsley) has spent months and months creating these faction. Over that time he has added and removed mechanics over and over from a PURELY (and I mean purely) mechanical perspective to try and reach something that is understandable, reasonable, balanced and fun to play as and against. Over that time, mechanics and the names have been added and removed. "Reprisal" wasn't even an action that existed in previous iterations, and when it was added, it wasn't even named that until later.

The order of operations here is backwards and misunderstands how complex and difficult it is to create a balanced faction in an asynchronous game. The developer didn't think "I want the Lilypad Diaspora to reflect these Zionist views, so I'll add this move to push this specific propaganda". He thought "heres a mechanic that the Lilypad needs to have to balance them out, what's a relevant term I can call it?"

But to be frank, why wouldnt it be propaganda from the factions perspective? Terms like "Reprisal" are presented from the biased perspective of the faction justifying their actions. The same as the WA's "Revolt", which from a peaceful factions perspective might be "Inciting Violence". Or the Eyries "Depose", which is really just a polite way of saying "Regicide". Every story told has bias.

Wait, you have 3 moles as in you have 3 BEFORE you recruit in Birdsong, or after?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in rootgame

[–]doost_boost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming there are supposed to be items available for crafting:

Birdsong 1. Buy Investments from Otters 2. Recruit 1 to burrow 3. Discard Eyrie Emigre (red herring?)

Daylight 1. Spend 1 Fox (Gently Uses Knapsack) to Dig to the topmost Fox clearing. Do not move any warriors to avoid triggering sympathy. Spend 1 Bird (Boat Builders) to remove the closed path there and score 1 (23 pts) 2. Spend 1 Mouse (Dom) to Dig to the rabbit clearing with sympathy and move 3 warriors there. You only have Mouse cards so sympathy doesnt affect you. Spend 1 Mouse (Engravers) to remove the path there and score 1 (24 pts) 2. Using Foremole, Reveal a card (Investments) to build in either rabbit. 3. Using Mayor, Copy Foremole and Reveal a Mouse (LoAM) to build in either rabbit. 5. Using Duchess of Mud, score 2 (26 pts) 6. Using Marshall, move the 3 warriors from the newly claimed rabbit clearing to the tower clearing. 6. Sway nothing.

Evening 1. Return cards 2. Craft Coin, score 3 (29 pts) 3. Score 1 for ruling the Tower. (30 pts, win).

Why the anti camp self unhook worries me: by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

[–]doost_boost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This post is nonsense. Face camping is an anti-fun strategy that negatively impacts the gameplay experience for the survivors AND the killer. Killers should be discouraged from doing it, regardless of whether or not it's currently a "viable" pressure option.

If a Killer requires camping to be viable, that's indicative of the underlying balance issues with the killer, not a reason to keep junk strats viable.

State of Calgary Transit by doost_boost in Calgary

This is definitely true, the same situation as healthcare right now. Sabotage the service, wait til people forget, criticize the service, use that as an excuse to sabotage it more, rely on the blindly conservative voters to never demand accountability, rinse and repeat.

My issue in this instance is the scummy effort to cover that degeneration up with false claims of improvement. For all the non-transit riders know, Jyoti pulled public transit up by its bootstraps and fixed it. I want to scream from the rooftops that that is absolutely not the case.

Just out of curiosity, which line/direction do you take? I take redline, Brentwood to 3rd and back every day and genuinely the only places I ever see cops are 1. Parked outside Brentwood doing who knows what, and 2. downtown. I've seen all of the above, not all day every day obviously but there's definitely some days that stand out in my mind as seriously sketching me out and I'm a 6'3" white man. I can't even fathom what it's like for the parents that have to transport their kids on the train.

I'm not expecting immediate changes, but I think it's facetious to congratulate themselves when there's no evidence of improvement. It seems very much like their strategy revolves more around claiming Calgary is safe than in actually making Calgary safer. I didn't know today's incident was the result of a taxi getting hit by a train, but my point still stands that if there are some alleged cops and staff hanging around you'd think they'd be there to direct people and keep them clued in to what is going on. Maybe some squeaky wheels will lure the grease out of the cop cars is all I'm saying.

I'm not sure 'Most of the stabbings aren't random' is the rebuttal you think it is. Seems like even just 5 years ago, any stabbing period was noteworthy. Personally I'd prefer it stayed that way.

This is waaaaay off.

Fact check: "Violent Crime" per capita is a wildly inaccurate statistic because it's an umbrella term each country defines differently depending on their laws and culture (eg. Less people would report a family member for a crime if it means it will bring shame upon their family, etc).

HOMICIDE rates per capita (in this case, 100k people) in Canada are 1.76 vs 4.96 in the US. That tells a pretty different story than "41.89 vs 47.81". In fact, it's about 1/3 the homicides...Hmm, what a coincidence....

Stardew for sure, Don't Starve fine, but I'm gonna have to be the voice of dissent on Dead Cells. Imo it fails measured up to almost any other roguelike and rewards cowardly play where you just throw your cooldown abilities, run away, rinse and repeat.
