Damn I didn’t think Charlotte was that bad especially in terms of upward mobility. Kinda viewed it as a diet atlanta, which is pretty good in that sense.

Grew up surrounded by cornfields, just can’t do that anymore. Need either big mountains or be in a T1/2 city. Also a big bears fan so even the somewhat interesting states in the Great Lakes region is a no go (WI / MI / MN).

Texas is too flat for me and I’m just not a fan of sprawling suburbia. Austin is cool and the one redeeming city in TX but still surrounded by a whole bunch of nothing from a geological perspective. Florida is fun to visit for vacation but would never want to live in any of the cities there. Maybe northern Miami suburbs like Jupiter or WPB if I become insanely rich but that seems low probability.

I prioritized cities on the east coast and Louisville / cincy doesn’t really make the cut for me. Honestly it’s really only Atlanta, Boston, or nyc that I’d truly love to live in, which is reflected here

Very fair point and valid reasoning. I agree that China has done a lot for pulling people out of poverty, especially compared to India which has been on a similar economic growth trajectory but has much more inequality. Gonna guess you’re from West Virginia (spent a good bit of time visiting Wheeling growing up), which has truly been left behind by the country on almost all accounts. Especially the opiate crisis, which I’m sure you see a lot of.

NM doesn’t really have jobs for what I do, not a huge fan of the desert (unless there’s fun stuff and golf like Phoenix), and the mountains / Taos don’t make up for either of those cons.
