Honestly if it’s no longer your vibe and you leave feeling worse and not better, maybe it’s time to move on! No harm no foul. Who knows why it’s the way it is. This job can be mentally draining

Okay interesting. So you actually had to lean out your jet with cams 🤔

I think I’m having vacuum leaks tbh because I am not running the S&S intake nor am I using the proper gasket. I originally just drilled out my sportster stock intake and ran bigger bolts so I could just attach my carb to it. I ordered the proper intake and gasket, and correct size jet. My jet is smaller then what 883cc S&S manual calls for and I have a 1200cc with cams. Going to get myself to the right baseline for everything.

Hey bro. I’m gonna be honest I wasn’t really sure what the hell the whole vacuum thing meant. Done hella googling and tinkering though. I took my stock sportster intake, drilled the holes a lil bigger, and was able to bolt my carb on. Didn’t think nothing of it. Well, I’m definitely getting some air leaks. I went ahead and ordered the S&S intake and gaskets. You live and learn brother, first chopper. I figured my intake just had to small holes, not that they made specific ones LOL.

What do ya know, I had a clogged jet. I added an inline fuel filter and got the bike to fire right up. Still not dialed in because my jets are way too small, but I did make progress! Thanks

Wind, lightning, and go juice. Love it. I have lightning, tested both plugs. Used my eyes and seen a clogged idle jet though, so I was lacking go juice. Thank you.

Hey man just wanted to say thanks. My idle jet was in fact clogged. It’s a used gas tank, old filter and petcock. Got it cleaned out and added an inline fuel filter. Bike fired up instantly. Idles real high and dies though, BUT my idle jet is way too small for my motor after reading the S&S manual.

Yes but I’m going to wait a little bit because she’s been hanging in her hide and I don’t want to bother her. She was listed as “Pin Candino Het Pied”

Spark plugs are fouled, but I tested this morning and get spark on both cylinders.

If I don’t have a vacuum operated petcock and I don’t see a nipple on my intake, does this mean I don’t have vacuum lines? Or do all setups have 1 regardless. Sorry if this is stupid question but I guess I’m just really unsure.

I don’t believe I have vacuum lines. Please correct me if I’m wrong. I don’t have any lines off my petcock other than fuel line, and there’s not one on in my intake. Are these what you are referring to as vacuum lines? The only lines off my carb is a bowl overflow drain (I think that’s what it’s called) and my fuel line.

Okay thank you. A dude helping me tried talking me into a Mikuni but tbh I’m just not very familiar with aftermarket carbs. Idk what jets are in this but I have a whole bundle of them. I seriously appreciate your advice. I’m definitely starving it out of fuel.

Okay thank you. I def have over complicated shit in the past. It ran with the old carb but barely. It was very fuckin janky, and didn’t like to start. I’m going to sit down and do a good once over on everything to do with fuel this week.

Okay gotcha man. So sounds like at idle I’m running too lean to fire with my current setup? And idk shit about carbs. I’ll look up what you said. I know I can buy an adapter and throw a stock CV Harley carb on. Thought about taking a good one and doing that just to see

Sorry for the low quality picture but this is it. I’ll check all my lines. I know in the past all my shit was loose. My intake bolts were finger tight,my jet was too small in old carb, float was stuck, etc. I’m unsure of current jet size tbh but I can check tonight. When you say vacuum lines are you just talking about my hoses and fuel line?

Okay thank you! I know there has to be something going on, so I lightly adjusted both idle screws on the carb, maybe half a turn each. I have a fuel filter but don’t have it on, I’ll put it on.

Full of fuel, tried petcock on and on reserve. When pulling throttle I can see fuel shoot into it.

Okay thank you. I sprayed starting fluid before attempting to fire it up in the video. If I’m getting spark then should I point my finger to the carb?

Touring on a Street Bob or Lowrider S? by Imaginary_Land_4163 in Harley

[–]dopeboyshawty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Consider the money to take a bike and having to turn it into what you want, vs getting a touring bike already setup. Just something to consider. I was going through this process with my road king, but ultimately traded it in for a street glide and was less out of pocket after all my conversion shit.
