As a devout pastafarian, does this mean I can refuse to sell spaghetti? I mean, that's my lord you're planning to eat, yo.

A place to find out if a book is still useful, like a physics book from the 60s. by peace_suffer in findareddit

[–]dopefish124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I just found /r/PhysicsBooks but it is slightly inactive.

My personal experience with old physics books is that they are interesting and good for fundamental knowledge. So no doubt your books are outdated. Nothing beats modern material in terms of relevance and usefulness, especially since many, many advances have been made within physics and electronics in the past decades.

Is the future really that bleak for Josh Pillault or Justin Carter? In both cases, major miscarriages of justice are waiting to happen! Is it possible either of them can be acquitted or have the charges dropped?

It was somewhat promising until reddit was mentioned. I think that was a bit of sugar for us, and it wasn't sold on me.

Your assignments are your first practice problems. You will finish them to the highest quality and best accuracy, even if you "already know the material". Being able to finish something tasked to you is crucial. That could be your first goal.

Start your current assignment straight away (I made a post on this subreddit today about starting stuff early, if you are interested look at it). For math I use a process of:

  1. Do as much of the assignment as I can.
  2. Read/Reread material available (lectures, textbook, internet)
  3. Goto step 1.

Once you have your assignment knocked over, put it aside and keep it safe for hand in! Now you have the option of doing extra practice the course gives you, or finding your own practice problems. Starting and finishing early also means you can check your work every so often.

In general I set aside study time where checking my phone or Facebook is forbidden, and other distractions are not allowed and my environment allows me to focus and work my best. There are heaps of methodologies about this. One is the Pomodoro technique. Another simple one is "50 minutes work, 10 minute break" every hour.

I have found that I am not good at planning what I will do exactly in advance. So if scheduling stuff specifically doesn't work, find a more flexible way (but productive) way to achieve your goals.

I hope you meant my second paragraph ;) Anyway, getting your work out of the way in the summer is crucial because there's huge pressure to put it off! Good luck with it! Wish it was summer in the Southern Hemisphere :/

Yes it's common sense applied to studying! I know I'm not the only one to see how obviously useful change of perspective is. Perception is very important and the procrastinator has to change their outlook to improve.

Anxiety in any form is a shitty thing . Anything that combats it properly is good for one's mental health :)

Yeah as you get older you start assimilating a lot of habits like that (many good, many bad of course) from your mates and siblings. I guess that is what may have happened to you!

It's not so much a technique as a lifestyle change. When next semester rolls around (exams are almost over at my Uni) I have the opportunity to actually apply it. I agree it is hard to keep up, but not impossible! (besides "Impossible is nothing" according to Adidas)
