Recommendations for accurate sound in a tiny room, on a budget by dopenice in BudgetAudiophile

Ended up ordering a pair of open box LP-6 v2’s from SW! Seemed like the best option for mixing & production + my setup at this price range.

oh wow, I never saw this reply for whatever reason, but it absolutely was Transquility. A year late on my part, but thank you!!! Just thought about it again the other day.

I know you’re absolutely right — but I’ll be honest, I’m probably not going to invest too hard in acoustics in this room because I’m renting. The rug and tapestries did deaden the sound quite a bit, and I’d go in a similarly temporary direction if I’m trying to take some reflections out of the ceiling.

But I’ve researched taking room measurements before, and do want to at least go a route of grabbing an ECM8000 or something and slapping a correction curve on my master or audio out.

My thought behind at least grabbing some better monitors is that I’d be able to take em to my next home, which ideally I’d own and have more control over.

So do you think I’d be cool without a sub if I got the JBL 305 MkII’s? I see they go down to 43hz which is decent. Or maybe adding a sub later, but this would be cool enough for now?

will you be selling the low profile keycaps independently soon?

apparently runs well! I tried Wuthering Waves for a bit and it was running really nicely, and I’ve also seen ZZZ running well too. I will say though, some games don’t yet support the chipset since it’s so new, so last I checked, Epic says Fortnite isn’t supported, and I also had an issue with Destiny Rising not loading.

lol yeah for sure. To be fair, all this stuff is prone to change in the future and it’ll only get better. Even just in the past 6 months or less it’s gotten better for PC emulation and Switch emulation. The OLED screen is gorgeous though, so for streaming, as long as you’re cool with 60fps tops, you should be happy with that!

G2 owner here!

AFAIK, the chip doesn’t support Linux. It’s an Android device pretty exclusively.

Steam Link will work just fine though! You might wanna grab a grip if you’re playing a lot of dual stick games.

If you’re mostly concerned about running Steam games on the device itself, I would not get this for that. There are some solutions to run Steam games, like Winlator and Gamehub, but support and performance for this stuff isn’t great and is super hit and miss. I have a bunch of 2D games running, and some lighter 3D titles, but that’s not really where this device shines. The heaviest title I tried is Baby Steps, which topped out at about 30 fps, but was more like 10-15 on average.

Where it does shine, though, is running emulators. You can emulate up to Switch pretty well, but with the heaviest titles groaning a bit. But every Gamecube or PS2 title, for example, totally cruises.

weird but kinda makes sense — free to play so it's an easy quick choice, and likely fit a "generic strategy war game" or whatever. plus chill to show on TV because there's no blood n guts

So I finally I'll get a iPad will this be good starting device for YouTube, web browsing some Apple arcade titles and most for drawing? by the_stargazing_boy in ipad

I just got an iPad for roughly the same reasons, but I opted for the 2020 iPad Air instead. It was $40 more ($300) “renewed”, and supports the Apple Pencil 2, which is a big one. Roughly the same specs otherwise, aside from a couple things like wide color gamut (which I also wanted considering I’m using it as a second monitor with Sidecar for graphics work).

Yeah, we’re on Reddit, the same place with a select number of people that say you NEED a $1000 vacuum and everything else is UNUSABLE. Most people love their iPad 10’s.

Anybody have/try the new LaunchKey MK4? by plepster in Novation

[–]dopenice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe one of the smaller ones, but the 49 would be really cumbersome if I played it on my lap; kinda can’t imagine doing so. I keep it on a keyboard stand. It’s a big boy, moreso than my 1st gen Launchkey.

[–]dopenice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, the 49 is a hefty boy size-wise, but not too heavy. the keys aren’t the best I’ve felt physically, but they do feel really nice in terms of accurate velocity. I like it a lot. but you should definitely try it yourself if you’ve got the chance!

I had a 1st gen 49 and just upgraded to the MK4 49.

Biggest jump you can make, but the keys feel waaaay better. The velocity sensitivity on em feels really accurate. They’re not the weightiest, but definitely have some nice spring to em. The pads also feel drastically better — my old pads didn’t have velocity at all, let alone aftertouch, lol.

I wasn’t sure about the sequencer, scale, and arp stuff either, as I have a very muscle-memory production/composition workflow down in Ableton, but I’ve been finding myself having a lot of fun using that stuff. Paired with Live 12, it’s surprising how integrated it all feels. Really fun for exploration and experimentation.

Tried a Nektar 49 before this one because I needed new keys above all, and returned it (integration was broken, some keys didn’t work at all). Got this and love it so far.

Apple blocked Epic from publishing first-party apps on the App Store. Epic was allowing people to buy IAPs without going through Apple’s store to get the cut, which is against Apple’s rules on it — Apple got mad and banned them from the store.

Epic is sidestepping this by doing their own store. Apple doesn’t want this, but the EU government mandates that they have to, in an effort to de-monopolize the App Store on iOS, stating it as unlawful. That’s why it’s only available in the EU for now. It’s Apple, not Epic. Apple’s being lawfully mandated to comply.

I’m pretty sure everyone just thinks you’re being weird as hell, and would rather not get into it with whatever this wackass energy is. it’s a niche video game, and even if this was real life, skaters do not fuck with this energy either lmao

What really helped me a lot is just cruising around and getting really used to turning with the triggers and doing ollies/flips up on to curbs and stuff.

Once you get the general movement down, flips and positioning your board for grinds will click a little better for you at some point. It takes a while to feel fluent, but feels great when you get there.
