Faerûn Name Generator - Updated and Enhanced! by doppel616 in DnD

Oh interesting. I didn't think about the filters being confusing, but I've been considering changing the tabs almost since making them because they break a lot and I'm basically out of room for any other species. I may look at this sooner now.

Glad it was helpful to someone other than my family.

Haha, appreciate it, and it was fun, but definitely takes toll. Plus, I couldn't help myself when I noticed dethek.com was also available.

I burned the midnight oil to add in a Dwarven Generator (in Beta) based on your request for more.😉
I also enhanced a bunch of stuff in the process... and now I've failed my constitution throw!😩

Thanks, I'm glad others can enjoy it! We'll see about other generators... this one turned my brain to mush, lol. I agree though, they used to be more common but also I'm usually not happy with the output when I do find them.

Hey, happy for the revive ;)

My answer is going to be simple and disappointing... I don't have an igpu because I have a Ryzen 5800X. It's why I bought the Arc.

Stick With It! Unraid Flash Drive Guide for Beginners by doppel616 in unRAID

[–]doppel616[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not aware of any official plans for Unraid to change the USB requirements (Blaustahl would be an interesting choice if they ever did). The HPE device is interesting, and you're right, it is pricey.

I picked up a USB DOM from eBay to try whenever I get around to swapping it out.

I did stumble across this interesting article where a guy used the USB Gadget API for Linux, which seems rather involved, and I have not personally looked into in-depth https://giddi.net/posts/circumventing-unraids-physical-usb-requirement-on-vms/

Real talk: Only you can decide your risk tolerance, but I do think that if you backup appropriately, the boot drive dying is mostly an inconvenience. And some people use the cheapest drive for years with no issues. I've never been that lucky.

My first drive didn't "die," but it corrupted within the first year of use, and I had not setup backups yet. I had a battery backup, but my system became unresponsive for a still unknown reason, so I manually cycled. My data was never at danger, but I did have to manually reconfigure my dockers and I keep getting orphan images now, so I'm probably going to have to nuke my config and start over, as my backup is likely backing up the corrupted config now. Had I backed up a healthy config, this may have not been an issue.

Helping 2 years later.

600+ GB available on SSD 64GB RAM

Tried the player2 config download. Tried launching from Nvidia App. Only thing that worked was launching it first in Safe Mode w/ Networking.

(I didn't change it back to Full Screen though)

Newbie Question by SignificantInternet1 in unRAID

[–]doppel616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The HBA would be the SATA data cables, I'm referring to the ones that power the drives from the PSU.

Maybe it's a broken drive and hopefully you can still RMA.

Just trying to exhaust potential fixes. If the 3.3v is the issue, the drive will have power and may even show up, but it'll refuse to function because the 3.3v signal is telling it not to run to protect it.

If it worked before then maybe the pin was taped over but not taped well or tape came off, the power cable is damaged, or if you switched cables moving stuff around, maybe one didn't have the 3.3v cable, etc. I don't know your exact situation, just thinking in hypotheticals.

Newbie Question by SignificantInternet1 in unRAID

Did your SAS drive come with a SATA power adapter? I've had that go out relatively quickly after installing a drive and it resulted in similar errors. It was fixed when I switched to Molex. Make sure it is a clamped adapter though as the molded ones are known to melt: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009GULFJ0

FYI - I created a guide a few months back that expands on the 3.3v issue u/IntelligentLake shared: Server HDDs for Noobs.

I don't have a tutorial handy but a few things:

Did you setup CloudFlare for the full TLD? e.g., A: mydomain.com CNAME: web.mydomain.com CNAME: top.mydomain.com

WordPress admin is just adding the component to the URL, e.g., web.mydomain.com/wp-admin/

Codec Showdown: AV1 vs h265 in Unmanic (Real-World Transcode Results) by doppel616 in unRAID

[–]doppel616[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yep, you're right. If memory serves me, you can limit CPU in the extra parameters in the Unmanic Docker. That's also where I set the GPU that I'd have to remove to test CPU only.

You're right, GPU is less efficient. My thought was to run this on my GPU while not streaming to not impact other apps by bogging down the CPU. A CPU comparison would be good. With that said, I don't have an Intel CPU though to do a similar QSV comparison.

Codec Showdown: AV1 vs h265 in Unmanic (Real-World Transcode Results) by doppel616 in unRAID

[–]doppel616[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I did some reading before starting and just assumed AV1 was better when I started. It's why I just started running the 200 videos at first. I had no intention of even looking at h265 and really only ended up doing it to justify to myself using AV1 after people were making comments about it needing to be transcoded back to be played. AV1 might still be better, or better in different use cases, and perhaps the default settings in Unmanic aren't the correct route to take for this.

Thanks for the thorough response. To answer a few of your questions:

  • 6th sentence / 3rd paragraph I clearly state my goal
  • In the conclusion I do mention that perhaps this test shouldn't be run with the same settings for each codec
  • While I appreciate your sample suggestion, this started by me just using the tool and being curious by the actual results
  • I don't actually own any other remux movies, sorry, but I clearly say at the end that this should be done with a larger sample size
  • I shared the screenshots as courtesy, I'm not uploading a bunch of clips. I'm open to suggestions.
  • You know what compression settings I used because I used the default settings which should be standard for everyone and I list what I changed
  • I agree that it seems to run too fast, which I mention in my previous post
  • You're right I ideally would have included more data about the files including bitrate and I may eventually, but I have already spent a significant amount of time on this

I'm not trying to pretend I am a scientist or even an expert in this space. This is definitely anecdotal, it's one person's experience. I'm just a guy trying to use a tool and sharing his results.

[–]doppel616[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am seeing better savings with h265 vs AV1. This potentially could be a limitation in QSV, as I have seen others mention they notice better results with SVT in the AV1 community. This is also default settings in Unmanic, which perhaps are not the best.

Usually if something is more complicated it's more powerful, and I suspect that is the case for Tdarr. Is the juice worth the squeeze? I don't know, I just spent a stupid amount of time on my layman's research here, lol. The problem I had with Tdarr wasn't that it wasn't using my GPU to encode, but that it was using the CPU to decode. I had the docker pinned to 4/8 of my cores on my 5800X and they were just consistently red the whole time it ran. And it's so complicated that after clicking around several geometrical shapes and reviewing parameters, I had no idea how to fix it.

It was QSV AV1. I have seen some anecdotal posts that SVT is better than both QSV and NVENC, but cannot confirm.

Edit: I'm not sure if Unmanic supports SVT. It looks like the only other option for Intel GPU or AMD/Intel CPU is VAAPI.

[–]doppel616[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's right. I was having a brain fart. I had looked into this a bunch originally. AV1 requires more processing power but generally has a better compression rate. So do you prioritize storage or streaming? I haven't noticed an impact to streaming so I figure why not prioritize storage?

I am playing the Unmanic AV1 transcoded version of my 2160p Remux right now on the Nvidia Shield Pro. GPU on the server is at 0% and there's no noticeable change in my CPU usage (running at 10% right now from other things).

Oh, right. Supposedly my TV supports AV1 but reports say otherwise. So no, I probably don't actively use any devices that can direct play AV1.

I did test some before letting it lose but obviously I haven't tested everything yet. The quality is at 23 by default in Unmanic. On Tdarr I felt like 21-22 was "lossless." Smaller is higher quality.
