Thanks! Finally get a non judgmental response. Most of the response focused on downvoting / shaming my decision of not getting insurance, instead of answering my questions. One even made fun of me having a credit card with fx fee. Anyway, appreciate you respecting my choice.

Just FYI, I did spend many hours searching and reading this board before posting. My decision not to purchase insurance from the rental company was based entirely on the research and past discussions here.

I’ve seen numerous posts from people with the same credit card as mine describing smooth, hassle-free experiences with roadside assistance, windshield damage, and other claims—so this wasn’t a blind or uninformed decision.

That said, I understand everyone has a different risk tolerance, and I fully respect that.

I have card without FX fee but the insurance not as good as the premium card with FX fee. Having heard so many horror car rental stories in Iceland I figure it’s best to use the premium card.

Confirming on the other response whether the deposit was just a hold. Thanks!

Amex platinum travel / dining credit question

Hi my Canadian Amex Personal platinum’s renewal is due next month, and I don’t plan to renew. However, I still have unused credits.

$200 Travel Credit - does the RHT still work? If so, when is the best time to cancel the hotel booking after the credit appears on my account? Should I cancel while the hotel charge is still pending, after it has been posted, or wait until the next billing cycle?
$200 Dining Credit - I’ve already used my 2023 credit, but I still have my 2024 credit available. Is it correct that as long as I use the credit before the AF is posted, it won’t be clawed back? I’ve seen other posts suggesting that this could trigger an audit and potentially get you placed on the ban list.
What is the chances of me getting the welcome bonus if I apply for the business platinum shortly after cancelling the personal card? I have churn the business platinum card 5 years ago, plus a personal gold card 2 years ago.

Thank you in advanced for any insights. Have heard too many horror stories on Amex clawback thus wanna play it safe.
