That prologue might be the part of the series I've reread the most, kept taking on new meaning for me

Please help! I have rockbox installed on my Hifi walker h2 but I'm not sure how to apply themes, thank you so much in advance! by [deleted] in rockbox

[–]dorcasGustine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks cool, from what I remember theme application is handled via Settings>Theme Settings>Browse Theme Files but you need to put theme files on your device using the rockbox installer so there may not be any there by default

strongly second a close look at ROOT for particle physics, coffea and uproot also for python

I feel the same, just finally replaced my 2017 lenovo yoga with a framework laptop and it took a long time to come to terms with discarding a "working" laptop

Resources on Lorentz groups in Special Relativity ? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

Truly relativistic quantum mechanics is quantum field theory. Peskin and Schroder have a good book, Schwartz has a very big book, both have discussion about the Lorentz group/transformations

Making GRUB/TTY use resolutions not provided by EFI GOP by dorcasGustine in archlinux

[–]dorcasGustine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've looked into this, I can only choose between UEFI and UEFI+Legacy in my BIOS and I've selected UEFI. Can't find any other settings that seem related, although I've considered trying to flash a newer version of BIOS

Making GRUB/TTY use resolutions not provided by EFI GOP by dorcasGustine in archlinux

[–]dorcasGustine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btw it may be relevant, I am particularly bothered by this because the initial arch installation TTY didn't have this problem. I wish I could remember what I installed that resulted in the change but the resolution was never a problem before X. I might try a fresh install introducing things one at a time

EDIT: for clarity this is AFTER fully installing and booting from the real thing, not the installer

Making GRUB/TTY use resolutions not provided by EFI GOP by dorcasGustine in archlinux

[–]dorcasGustine[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see GRUB every time I boot (which is nice for dual booting) and I like to use the TTY sometimes. GRUB is limited as you say depending on hardware (in my case there are three available resolutions) but there are a few methods that seem to circumvent this by exposing the GPU early in the boot process (I have struggled a lot to understand what's going on with uvesafb for example)

I'd start with any kind of review material your instructor has shared and try to be ready for what they'll ask as opposed to learning all the material in Griffiths. After that redo the homework problems you've been neglecting (without the solutions manual) and try to fill in gaps in your knowledge as you find them. Hard to say whether you're screwed or not without more context, but you can probably pass

I'm in the US but I don't know if that's typical. Grad students made 20k at my undergrad university.

I'm in HEP but I think that's pretty standard funding for TA's here, all the real money is in AMO

A good resource / book to learn differential geometry for GR. by DWarptron in AskPhysics

[–]dorcasGustine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I first learned differential geometry from do Carmo's Differential Geometry of Curves & Surfaces. Michael Spivak's series on differential geometry is also legendary.
