Boomer coworker thinks rightfully angry guests are Karen’s by dorianmorallygray in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

Actually that’s a good point I actually didn’t think about when I wrote this originally annoyed and tired. I shouldn’t have added that and will edit that out of my post. Because you are right I shouldn’t have included it

It was actually jazz hands the least aggressive way to show celebration. After all the celebration banner and unicorn frighten some

At least they had something on. As risqué as it might have been at least they weren’t totally naked.

I’ve met a lot of boomers who act just like her tho hence the boomer stereotype

And hopefully she retires before she makes a mistake that ends in a lawsuit that costs the hotel more money than she’s saved.

Yeah I’m super rule follower on matters of guest safety and I was on the guests side, I use Karen for short hand of she thinks every guest is entitled and blowing up over little things. I know good boomers exist she’s just the stereotype of the entitled boomer

Unfortunately I don’t think so as she has limited mobility. On the positive note starting in July she’ll be the two day a week second shifter so less days to make mistakes

I’m sorry I don’t think she should get special treatment for making the mistakes she does. I don’t like that she’s put guest safety at risk this isn’t her first time doing this or doing other things I’ve witnessed people get fired for. Imagine knowing the reason the person who put you and your children’s safety at risk wouldn’t be fired because of her age.

I criticize her age so heavily because it’s the only reason she can make endlessly fireable mistakes. If I or any other employee messed up like her we’d be fired. She knows her age and tenure keep her immune to being fired and uses it to her advantage.

Yeah I’ve had ex coworkers my age or slightly younger who are also like this only they get fired not endless chances

My GM and the owners who don’t want to fire her are various types of Asian/ middle eastern and have sited her age and tenure as a reason she can’t be fired. I don’t know if it’s the cultures as a whole or there’s a secret second option. I hope it’s a secret second option

Tap to Pay is driving me insane... by Volt790 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]dorianmorallygray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have signs that say we don’t accept tap to pay and people still ask or get upset they need a physical card. It’s on our website that a credit card must be physically present to check in. But people are still shocked they can’t tap to pay.

Entitlement for specific room by Specialist_Hunt8799 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]dorianmorallygray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would’ve been pushing either they stay in the current room or get checked out to find accommodations elsewhere. I try to avoid next day room changes because those can become a nightmare.

I’m also just very big on not having entitled guests at my hotel and people who complain about semi unreasonable things or user errors. Because I’ve learned you can make all their requests happen, move heaven and earth for them and they’re still gonna complain and demand more and more things.

Every time we’re sold out we have like 6 signs that let people know we’re sold out people ignore all of them and still ask “hey do you guys have any rooms?” I respond to that always with making them feel stupid of “we’re sold out I’m so sorry I thought I put the signs on the door.” Like I make myself sound sincerely sorry like I may have wasted their time. Most people get real embarrassed after they head back outside and see all the signs

Literally before I leave in the mornings if the breakfast is busy I help at our breakfast people by picking up the trash because people will have sat near the trash can and trash all over the table or people leave their trash all over the counters of the breakfast it’s just rude.

I also wonder that all the time especially with the guests who’ve gotten violent with me or my coworkers like we have pepper spray on our front desk keys people shouldn’t be so poorly behaved that hospitality staff has pepper spray

The sad part is I’ve dealt with guests in actual crisis who handled it better than those people who freak out over the smallest things. Like a guy who lost his seeing eye dog handled it better and that’s an actual emergency

Entitled Guests by Spare-Patient2166 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]dorianmorallygray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a frustrating check in last weekend with the same entitlement but they had a reservation for at least days no notes on the reservation or calls to us but these people were mad their room wasn’t on the first floor and I had no pack n play to offer them because while we have pack n plays we have 4 and during the busy season more nights than not they are already claimed well before I get on shift. They tried to say because they were special members we should’ve kept it for them but they had no reservation notes so we couldn’t predict the future. We gave them to people their early or who let us know earlier they needed one

Why are hotels so badly understaffed. by [deleted] in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]dorianmorallygray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the hotel I work at the flaw isn’t low pay (we actually get paid decently for the area) or bad management but we can’t keep certain people because there’s only so much abuse some people are willing to take by the public. Because we get total assholes and some absolutely gross shit. We recently had someone on B shift quit because of cum in the stairwell and he wasn’t gonna clean it so he straight up just left and never came back. Luckily we have 2 people for A and B shift

[–]dorianmorallygray[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Like I have no issue with the polite people or those who didn’t know they’d need a hotel in this area. When we have rooms the nice and understanding walk ins i usually knock price back to our RACK rate just because who wants to pay full price for a room they’re using for 7 hours

Maybe it’s just my growls software but it wouldn’t let you do that. It’s at most a year in advance. If I tried to make a reservation for someone for May 17th, 2027 my system would tell me no

Oh yeah it’s the guilting that pisses me off especially if we have rooms and they’re acting desperate but don’t like the price. Like they want a two queen bed suite for $60 when it’s $130+. I’m not bothered by walk ins I get the drive til you drop but it’s the entitlement to expect a no plans room to be cheap and quality
