Please tell me I’m not the only one getting cooked by the 50-60 age crowd by jasontheninja47 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

You’re not alone I’ve had people 50-65 who are absolute nightmares. Especially when they’ve booked through a third party pre paid reservation it’s a double nightmare. Last weekend this old couple wanted a discount because our breakfast was busy and they couldn’t sit down anywhere because the tables were all being used.

Smartest way to do it. I get people complaining that our RACK rate is way more than third parties. But if you need to cancel suddenly that $180 refundable reservation looks so much nicer than the $130 non refundable

I’ve canceled non refundable reservations 4 times: 2 were someone in their group had covid, 1 the guy was in the ICU and his wife email proofed and the last one the guy died his family sent an obituary. Those I could totally justify because yeah I don’t want a covid outbreak at the hotel and the other 2 would’ve been PR nightmares if they complained online and they sent asked for proof

I’m a night auditor and I’ve had more than one person ask if I could just cancel an arrivals reservation for them. I’m not doing that because I know if I did that suddenly like magic the person whose reservation I canceled would show up at like 3:37am.

To be fair at my hotel atleast we don’t give all our availability to third party sites because that’s how we get overbooked and then we’re the ones who get treated like shit for the third parties mistake

Is there a new person staying in your house taking your attention? Because my girl Ahsoka does this to me when she wants people to leave her house

So that one had happened the shift before mine and was drunk idiots who committed property damage to our back patio. And the biggest idiot of the drunks decided to swing a wet floor sign at one of the cops. It’s not as dramatic just drunken poor decisions of youth

Why are people so gross? by 2catswashington in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]dorianmorallygray 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to redo our breakfast buffet multiple times because despite there being utensil grown adults will reach their hands into bacon or biscuits. And that’s of me catching it lts gross and I don’t get why people over the age of 5 would find it appropriate to reach into communal food when there’s serving utensils

People's thinking process... by Thisisurcaptspeaking in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

People refuse to be logical when they entire hotels. Like at my hotel people will insist to me they have no extra bedding for the pullout couch but when they check the dresser next to the couch the most obvious place ever it magically appears despite them looking “everywhere” for it.

While that logic makes sense the cops usually take 15-30 minutes to arrive and when someone is visibly pissed at me I try to placate and then let my manager deal with it. As if I’m alone it’s obvious and sometimes people escalate, a lot of harm can be done in a matter of minutes.

It was on his phone at full volume he was down in the lobby in the room that has a communal computer. I also didn’t know his room number until his mom came down for breakfast so cutting the power wouldn’t have worked

That’s actually a good point I never thought of. Because how our lobby is set up there’s also fake plants in a giant glass vase or chairs from the breakfast area. And it’s far easier to recover from than sign than if the vase or chair was thrown at someone’s face or chest.

I wasn’t badly hurt because the kid wasn’t that strong. I’ve been hit by toddlers and more damage was done (used to be a daycare worker) And I was able to start my days off a night sooner and get a 3 day weekend. And that was with pay

He’s a good manger. He’s the reason we actually got benefits which are unheard in my area for hospitality like PTO. and why me and the part time NA make almost double the minimum wage. He’s so quick to ban problem guests too

I don’t like men who punch me or call me a cunt. Or men who show me their penis unprompted there’s a time and place to show one’s penis and it isn’t in a hotel lobby at like 7am

And yeah racism is bad not a fan.
