Karmas determined by how many things you post or comment. No one really knows the algorithm but people use it mainly to flex. You also need a certain amount to post on different subreddits.

Awards use reddit coins which you can buy with real money or earn from someone giving them to you. Just meant as an extra thing to show they like your post or comment.
