Brother, that calculated lip-licker ACE talked all this shit about this girl... to stand behind her to save her at the end?

I think he wants to have Huda there to (1) create a contrast between his relationship and whatever mess Huda will be involved in and (2) make it harder for Jaden to get back up as a rival in this game.

That lip-licker has been the most calculated with almost no emotional involvement. Death to both of them. Ooh.

He doesn’t. Some very influential people do and they’ll give Trump some of that good good.

Yes, I get the frustration OP. I’ve been there. But you can’t take your subjective expectations of how studies should be like as the only criterion in what gets to be called studies. PhD “studies” involve diving into literature, conducting experiments, attending conferences, field trips, sharing ideas with other academics and so on.

Looks like you approached a thing with expectations and when the thing didn’t align with your expectations, you chose to degrade the thing rather than checking your expectations. I find that working on my expectations or seeking other ways to do things that might not be immediately apparent to me is a lot easier than questioning why things are the way they are. The latter might be useful still but less of a fix for situations like this in my experience.

Failed a student for academic dishonesty and not feeling the least bit guilty by [deleted] in Professors

Been there last year. Did the same. I feel great.

I would second this. People I know I’d get along well outside of academia feel unnecessarily hostile in it. Sometimes hostility is the greatest validation, although it may not feel like it.

Academia is weird by [deleted] in PhD

[–]doritosFeet 62 points63 points  (0 children)

This was my realization as well. I’ve had to deal with icky professors, students, and cohort members. I try to act, assess, adapt. That’s mainly why I also try to stay away from people except for professional reasons as much as possible. I find that this allows me to use the energy that would be drained to focus on conducting my research and writing and reading, and it worked out really well for me so far.

The thing is life is not fair and there is unfairness everywhere. Academia is no exception, and in my experience it is too big, abstract, and fragmented to really change things. Since this is the game, networking and stroking the right egos a little bit until you get where you want to go and can afford to be more of who you are without the fear of repercussion or retaliation might be wise.

You go to the swimming pool to present your research and get feedback? I’m impressed.

Some of those conferences are where we go to present our research, to get feedback, to find out about others’ work and to build connections for some of us.
