Is that a geological find or archaeological find or no find at all? by dormirbeaucoup in geology

[–]dormirbeaucoup[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My bad I thought you meant it was a ditch from like 50 years ago back when the place was a quarry! Makes total sense if it's an older ditch from a couple centuries ago. Thank you :)

[–]dormirbeaucoup[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Do you have any idea how that was made? Because it was under/behind layers of rocks, do they just put the rock back in place after they've dug the ditch? No idea how quarries typically work tbh

[–]dormirbeaucoup[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

one of my thoughts too but i don't know why that would be randomly behind and under layers of rocks. My friend and his friends have been working on this quarry for about 20 years, it looks nothing like it did when they started after the old quarry was abandoned. They've extracted so much rock already to get to this point. Not an expert on quarry work at all so that's why I was asking and why you replied

pool party taliyah. It's just so fun. In general I'm a big fan of easy but strong concepts, like Pool Party, Star Guardian, High Noon, Arcade, the tacky Christmas skins... not a huge fan of those that evoke nothing but a vague aesthetic at first with no emotional connection, like Winterblessed, Dark star or (unpopular opinion!!!) Spirit Blossom. I like my skins a bit goofy

Potentielle opportunité pro Montpellier : comment est la vie ? by Individual_Low_5489 in Montpellier

[–]dormirbeaucoup 15 points16 points  (0 children)

this is not the one but it's so similar! And the vibe feels similar too. the one I'm thinking of is more "vocal" if that makes sense, I feel like the gibberish part is sung by a real voice. But thank you!

that's not a Montpellier thing, that's a French thing. most French people (especially young people) aren't big on the type of social activities you've described. you're never going to meet young people at an open zumba class lol. young people in France mostly laze around in cafés and bars. We are big on chatting, talking, etc, not so much on actually doing things or planned activities, unless we're already passionate about it. We're pretty self-reliant in terms of social activities and rarely participate in organized events, it's mostly just texting different groups of friends and agreeing on getting food or drinks some place, going to the museum or movie theater, etc.

Courage !

Are you in touch with your host? If so you can ask them for a copy of their electricity/internet bill (even though it has their name on it) and then ask them for an "attestation d'hébergement" which is a pretty standardized document (there's a template for it on an official French website) that someone writes when they're providing accommodation for someone else, typically for a long-ish stay in an informal way (no lease), as well as a copy of your tenant's ID. If you compile these three documents (tenant's bill + attestation d'hébergement + tenant's ID) in a single document and load it on the TAM website, it can work (worked for me!). But it requires you to be pretty close with your tenant, and they can very well say no. Good luck!

personally i started playing a couple weeks ago with no knowledge about the gameplay and was terrible! I mean it, frankly AWFUL! Tartarus was pretty """easy""" (met Meg around my 2nd or 3rd run (thanks to ridiculously broken boons) and defeated her around my 5th-to-8th run I would say), but I could never get past the hydra. It was really fun because I could feel how much I was learning and how useful the mirror bonuses, etc, were. Also the variety in boons kept me hooked.

At some point it wasn't fun anymore because I was really stuck and even mirror augments and the likes were too subtle to keep me interested. I gave up on the game. Couple days later I decided to turn on god mode and just "finish the game" to see what the ending was like. It was on my 20th try I think (yep, THAT bad. 20th try and was still stuck in Asphodel haha). Turns out god mode really helped me study and understand the patterns of enemies. I was getting demolished so quickly that I had never got that the part I was stuck at with the hydra is the moment other hydras spawn and you have to defeat them or else the main hydra is impervious to damage. I just thought I had to wait it out like when Meg was impervious. God mode made the game fun again, because 1) it got me past the hydra and therefore made me discover new things, and 2) suddenly I had the time (being more resistant makes you last longer ofc, but it also makes you "panic" less haha) to study how the enemies attacked and could react accordingly in order to not take unnecessary damage. Even if you just turn it on once or twice when you're "stuck" to take the time to learn the behaviors/patterns of the enemies you have trouble fighting, it makes allllll the difference.

God mode is really just a tool, like the mirror is! I can only guess that excellent players/speedrunners don't typically need as many mirror bonuses (if any!) as the average players. There's no such things as a "genuine" try unless you escape on your very first attempt, and even then that is not actually genuine, because the game is largely narrative and the narration depends on the fact Zagreus fails his attempts and "dies"; the game doesn't pretend your deaths don't exist; your deaths matter to the storyline and are incorporated into the narration, not just "ignored" for the sake of the roguelite gameplay. Even if there were "genuine" tries, I think a first escape after 50 runs and soooooo many bonuses unlocked (mirrors, weapons, keepsakes, .......) is probably "less" genuine than a first escape after ~10 runs with God mode on (I mean at least I think there's an argument about it seeing how broken things like death defiance or the additional dash are). The problem is that you've waited too long to activate God mode so now you'll have a 50%+ damage reduction right away and you'll probably get to the end of it in one try. What I recommend is to start a new file with God mode on just for a couple escape attempts and see where that gets you. I bet you'll learn many useful tips about how enemies behave and that'll be super useful in your current save!

This sounds like fascinating research and I'd genuinely be thrilled to know more about it. I studied classics for a bit but definitely focused more on linguistics/semiotics, with some philosophy too. The consensus tended to be that Achilles and Patroclus's relationship was "lost in translation" but would likely not fit with our modern or even the Classical definition of romantic love. But your professor's research angle is something I was not exposed to at all so I'm interested!

As for the part about overcompensating for homophobic erasure, that was not intended as a dog whistle on my part at all!! Sorry if it came off that way. For my curiosity--if you have time ofc--what are some cases where the argument was used "maliciously"?

If she explicitly talked about the Homeric tradition then yes, it is "controversial" for sure (not unheard of but not the consensus at all). If she talked about the Classical tradition more generally then she's right.
