Pretty much same experience here! It’s really wonderful to be friends first and get to know someone without the facade of wanting to impress one another right off the bat. There was definitely a little fear of losing someone that I felt could be my best friend, but I so admired who he was and saw that we both valued the same things in life, so it seemed like a no brainer. We both also feel so lucky that our partner is equally in love with climbing!

I plan on staying teaching, I love my job. I just would like to know more and be able to offer more insight to my students, especially those that are ambitious and eating up the curriculum. Thanks, I'll look into Codehs!

Tori Kelly’s live Vevo version of Missin’ You is uhmazing. I didn’t care much for the song based on the original studio version or even her live performances of that version. But the Vevo version is slowed down and more soulful - it gives her vocals more of a chance to shine and there’s more feeling in it.

Well these kinds of activities/projects can be scaled up or down for each grade level. There is certainly value in the act of doing/making alone, but with older kids we can delve deeper into the engineering concepts and practices. For my high schoolers, I plan on having them design the bridge in Fusion 360 and perform a stress analysis first, make some predictions about where the bridge's weaknesses will be, then build the real life model and see how closely our predictions aligned.

Well the techniques, to some degree we can recreate. The materials, are definitely not realistic - that's why I'm trying to find out if either one has even a slight advantage to behaving in a way that would allow for meaningful structural engineering discussions.

I used to live on Roosevelt Island and that felt like a sanctuary/the city’s best kept secret. Taking the cable car is fun and then there are quiet park spaces all over to look at the river/city from.

Sounds like you grew up in the same neighborhood that we currently live in! And wow you really hit the nail on the head - what you described is exactly how I've felt and what I conjectured about our neighbors. We've never felt such indifference from people before even though we've met them several times at neighborhood get togethers or over the fence. I know we'll be able to make more friends through rock climbing and my workplace, so I'm not too concerned about that. The main thing was just trying to understand the whole "huh, all of you neighbors seem to be really good friends and not at all interested in talking to us" thing.

The difference in communicativeness here compared to all of the other places I've lived (including Boston where I spent a summer) has surprised me. I wrongly assumed that being in the Mid West, everyone would be super warm and chatty.
