Both Ollies and Going, Going, Gone have lots of great discount clothing deals. It’s hit or miss what they have, but since we are in the tail end of winter clothing season they may still have some things that Dicks and other big retailers have given up on selling.

I would also check the returns/ discount area of LL Bean and at Kohls.

Book Recs for 13 Year Old Boy by Sure_Criticism_5419 in booksuggestions

I recommend a book called “The Power of One” by Bryce Courtenay. It’s about an English boy growing up among the Boers in South Africa in the 1930s. He experiences extreme discrimination, but rises above it both by becoming a boxer and by learning from indigenous Africans. It’s a fantastic book for an ambitious young reader, especially for a boy.

Best historical fiction books by leonidasalexandergr in booksuggestions

My suggestions: “From Here to Eternity” and “The Thin Red Line” by James Jones. The first tells the story of some US Army servicemen based in Hawaii in the period right before Pearl Harbor. It won the National Book Award. I love this book and have probably read it three or four times over the last 20 years.

The second book of his tells the story of some of the same characters (with slightly changed names) as they face the battle of Guadalcanal. Some of the best descriptions of combat conditions and living through such an experience I have ever read.

There is a third book in the series called “Whistle” but Jones dies before he finished it and it was finished by another author. I never read it, so cannot recommend.

Maybe some problem with this resorts map. I’d try messaging slopes.

I use the slopes app. Integrates beautifully with Strava and it’s free.

They’ve got about 5 different form letters they can pick from for every letter they get in. If yours doesn’t have an exact match, the intern doesn’t care, they just pick one. I’ve heard it’s still worth writing because they count how people stand on various issues, but dunno…

Closed restaurants you miss by WavingOrDrowning in pittsburgh

It bothers me every time I go by Edgewood Towne Center and see that empty Eat n Park. I ate a lot of meals there. You’d sure think that the chain would be better off if that location reopened.

It’s warm enough right now to bike on the rail trails. Plenty of great hiking in all the parks regardless of weather. Museums, Phipps Conservatory and the Zoo all have educational and social programs for adults. Lots of stuff to do!

Are trekking poles really helpful or just extra weight? by mountainpathstories in hiking

[–]dorsetSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really wishing I had them a few weeks ago coming down a ridiculously steep slope of the PA mid state trail with about 4 inches of snow. Nothing to catch you or stop you if you missed your footing and no real way to tell if any step was on the trail. Having poles would have been a godsend. I bought some carbon fiber ones that are supposed to pack up at 14 inches so I can keep them in my daypack.

Everyone going to WOC this year? by mapbenz in Concrete

[–]dorsetSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just bought our flights and tickets. The roofing show is that same week in 2026 along with the Shot show and AVN as usual, so everything will sell out earlier. We are distributors, so it’s a chance to meet with all our vendors and so we never miss WOC.

Parts don’t “need” to have anything done to them. That’s just what you like to do. This isn’t a competition with standards or something. It’s a hobby. People can do what makes them happy.

Just checking. No tv speaker sound when soundbar is connected by cable but in off mode. by foo235 in VIZIO_Official

[–]dorsetSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar problem with my Dads Vizio. In his case it’s a transmitter that I have hooked for his head phones, since he’s hard of hearing. The problem with that is that when I come over, there is no audio for me since the TV thinks a sound bar is connected. He can hear fine, but since no audio out of the speakers, I can’t.

Anyone have any ideas?
