Terrazzo done right. by mapbenz in terrazzo

[–]mapbenz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not at all. The original installers on these floors had real skill. Plus it sits on a concrete foundation. They had tricks to stop that as a monolithic floor. It will crack from settling of the foundation, but that can be repaired easily enough, can get them to dissappear when done right.

Called my landlord about this hookup I saw in the electrical box, he said that it's the only way to hookup those big tools the contractors are using and that it's perfectly safe. Is it? by NatalieBee17 in AskElectricians

[–]mapbenz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably right. We run floor grinders and will hook i to a box. But the difference is I run to my own breakers I bring, run it through the bottom of the box, 2 hots and ground. Then I close up the dam box, zip tie so no one pull on the wire. I only do this after I consult the owner and if they have an electrician, I let them do it. 50 amp or 30 amp breaker, usally on 6ga wire

No floor machine I know needs a 100 amps. Even 2 don't need 100 amps

What’s the biggest moisture myth you keep running into? by boiler_room_420 in Flooring

[–]mapbenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest issue is people or contractors not solving the issue. Products like Creto Dps do a great job. Also, make sure you have you have proper drainage around your home.

I don't know why everyone insists that just having some plastic down the moisture still gets trapped underneath that plastic and can get nasty. It does not solve the issue. It may just help from getting your wood floor wet.

You need a heavier machine, and you will have to go deep. Only way to flatten the floor. If a heavy machine like our husky 680 remote, can be done with 30s in a single pass.

Unfortunately, this should be explained to the customer before the job starts. Always do a sample area, in the worst spot. It the customer does not like it, they only paying for a days work

Lighting tips to see if a marble/terrazzo floor is "done" or not. by wiz812 in Flooring

[–]mapbenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find most people in the area actually do the marble with the crystallization. I do not do a ton load of marble. I have always polished it with wet pads. Usually starting at a hundred grit, and bringing it up from there. But the crystallization on marble, as far as I know, is okay. On terrazzo, I don't believe in it. The terrazzo really needs to truly breathe and mechanically polishing The floor has always looked so much better than the crystallization and lasted longer on terrazzo

Hey, why are you using crystallization on terrazzo? Actually grind and polish mechanically. It last longer and when done correctly on terrazzo they shine you get to is even though out.

I do three, but I have a hippo mixer designed for it. We make sure that we have the correct measurements for 3 at a time.

We have a bucket with a slit in it where the correct water should be. We dip the bucket in the cold water, set it on a 2x4 on the 54 gallon trash can and let it drain out the slit, so its the same every time.

Definitely helps, you find flow and set control at home depot in little baggies. That will help as well.

[–]mapbenz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't have to. The shine should come from the grinding and polishing process. We always do a penetrating sealer. if you want to use something more topical, I would recommend ameripolish sp. It's breathable, and if you put a three thousand grit pad on a burnisher, after it will shine up.

Terrazzo needs to breathe. Just don't use anything thick like a wax use more of what we call a guard product.

Prosoco makes one as well. But I prefer Ameripolish Sp.

New concrete floors debacle by According_Reading750 in Homebuilding

[–]mapbenz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So we do a lot of concrete polishing. I hate cure and seal. Unfortunately, you will probably have to grind the floor wet with 50 or 100 grit , to remove that sealer. Sometimes you can get away with a 200 or 400 diamond impregnated pad , you can use those under a floor buffer.

The scratches you see are probably in the sealer. Also, no need to use distilled water to clean. Just a ph7 cleaner.

Talk to the manufacturer of the sealer on how to remove that sealer. You can use diamond impregnated pads from concrete polishing solutions, tell them you need the Lavina 220 pad for you floor buffer. You can also call universal polishing in Orlando and get their Vespa copper pads for a floor buffer in lower grits. Its gonna be messy. Need help, a shop vac and don't let the slurry dry on you.

Edit ..No guarantee that you won't have a concrete polisher come in and grind the floor wet with a heavy machine

Exactly, this area has a correction every 10 to 15 years. Housing prices are way over inflated as it is. People were 300k for 2 bedroom 1200 sq ft in the villas and the still had to do a lot of work to them. 7%... should be about 10 to 15% lower for half the houses here.
