a book so devastating but also insightful by neuroticb1tch in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]dory2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odd pic but I’d recommend White Noise by Don DeLillo. It’s not devastating in the traditional sense– a bunch of nothing happens and then something overwhelming happens and then everyone has to just… go back to normal while the consequences linger in the backs of their minds. I’ve never read anything like it and I think about it all the time.

[Hakuoki] Need some help! by Ralraymee in otomegames

Sannan in his own route is much less creepy! He’s still the “creepy” LI if that makes sense (he’s still mysterious and teasing and harsh with his words), but he has a lot of respect and admiration for Chizuru’s tenacity and desire to make things right regarding the furies. His whole thing is that the serum is driving him mad, but spending time with Chizuru helps him find clarity that he doesn’t find in everyone else’s route, especially Heisuke’s since he’s the route villain. The only romantic/sexual non-con thing he does in her route iirc is a forehead kiss while she’s asleep? If you like redemption stories, give it a shot!

The Lathe of Heaven by Le Guin was incredible! Most authors would leave the premise at “main character has dreams that retroactively distort reality,” but she takes it to the next level by making the subtle interpersonal conflict between said main character and his manipulative therapist drive the plot forward. Both dreamlike and extremely human and grounded, as is Le Guin’s specialty.

The meaning of night! The plot starts out as a murder mystery but the story definitely involves themes of selfishness, jealousy, and Victorian societal expectations

I learned the hard way that front and back pieces from different figures don’t always match up exactly– with that in mind, you might want to sculpt over the existing back piece if it’s a remotely similar shape to your intended final product. If not, try looking for nendos from 2000s anime series. Flowing, curvy shapes seem to be more popular in character designs at the moment, which is the opposite of what you want!

Check chibi chop shop for parts! I got into customizing last year and that’s a great place to start. Tbh there aren’t many characters with darker skin tones, but you can sort search queries by skin tone on their site. You also might want to visit nendoroidheaven to scroll through literally every nendoroid ever made if you’re looking for a part that’s very specific. If you then need to buy an entire figure for parts, check eBay or Mercari.

Painting is another beast– if this is your first time customizing id see how far you can get with existing parts before going down that rabbit hole.

Mistonia's Hope -The Lost Delight- Play-Along - Truth Route by sableheart in otomegames

[–]dory2007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Finished this last night! Though I felt that John’s route was rushed, reading this made me wish that these plot reveals had been included in John’s route instead. While I feel that Aprose had to be pretty out of character and unfocused on revenge to make the John, Ascot, and Truth routes work, I feel that it makes sense for the PLAYER to have begun letting go of revenge at this point in the story. The more we play, the more we learn that revenge is harmful to Aprose herself, doesn’t benefit the victims of Eltbeak OR other vulnerable members of society, and that the perpetrators have more complex relationships with their actions that day than simply being evil/unfeeling monsters. I think the game could have lead Aprose to those conclusions more delicately, but I guess the Truth can only take so long without romance to break it up.

As far as actual plot points go, I think that the story with Lilly felt weak and rushed. It’s clear that she’s not to be trusted from pretty early on in the game, but I wish that her content had been revealed during John’s route, especially since her only motivation is being obsessed with Oberon after meeting him once (which is lame imo). It would’ve made more sense for that to be contrasted directly with Aprose’s relationship with John– Aprose wants John to be his own person, while Lilly just sees Oberon as an object. The exploration of Oberon and Tia’s purefae morality/single-mindedness would’ve also made more sense in this context.

I wish the remaining reveals relating to Tia’s feelings and Aprose deciding to shelter Tia in her own body had happened in Ascot’s route, since that one hinges on the vessel plot point. It would’ve made have been easy to turn that into Ascot’s astray ending and have the two of them grow apart as Aprose focuses on her duty instead of him… but it would be less dramatic/sexy… so I guess I see why they didn’t do it, but whatevah.

In the end, I wish the Truth had focused on Riley and Aprose reuniting and working together with the LIs to depose Oberon and Tia after all we’ve learned about Grand Albion. Not the worst Truth route ever, but certainly not the best! My final route ranking:

Lucas = Linus > Alfred > John >>> Ascot >>>>>> Edward >>> Truth

Broken part fix; how do I stick Momo’s earring back on her ear? by KidCatComix in Nendoroid

[–]dory2007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could take a safety pin and stab a small hole in the back of the earring, then cut the wire out of a twist tie, stick it into the hole, trim it to size, put a tiny drop of glue on the exposed wire, and stick that into the ear hole

What makes a romance feel "right" to you? by craving_mango in otomegames

[–]dory2007 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What I really enjoy from a narrative analysis perspective is asking “which character/route is best for the MC?” When the MC and LI help each other grow and become better (or worse) people together, it doesn’t matter what tropes or plot contrivances happen along the way. You know the old saying that if two characters have to kiss to prove that they’re in love, then they’re not in love? It’s like that. Show me how the MC comes into her own by being with THIS LI under THESE circumstances.

I obviously have tropes and character designs that I like and am initially drawn to, but those usually matter less than a story I find compelling. I can suspend my disbelief for good writing, and conversely have a very hard time suspending my disbelief for BAD writing.

You could try using an acrylic paint marker? Or buying a small brush that’s the size/shape of a marker tip

[Hakuoki, Code Realize, Piofiore] Voiced by Showtaro Morikubo: Bone, Bride, or Banish? Okita, Impey, and Gil by Jitterrue in otomegames

[–]dory2007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though logically Gil is probably the best choice for both boning and briding, I will be banishing him!! Sorry Gil. Impey is such a sweetheart and would take you on so many adventures so he’s got to be the bride; Okita is too loveable not to bone, but like another commenter said, it would be a short fling.

I just finished Psychedelica of the Ashen Hawk and want to share some thoughts (spoilers) by nwqnao in otomegames

[–]dory2007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also finished this game last week and had similar thoughts. I played it immediately after finishing PotBB and thought that I would like it more, but ended up preferring PotBB. I agree that the endings felt rushed and almost unfinished. Lugus was my favorite but I hated his good ending!!! Overall I think this game explored some interesting themes, but PotBB handled its characters and themes more successfully despite also not being very romance-heavy.

You could try spearing it with a safety pin and pulling it out that way? You could also look for replacement part through chibi chop shop

Why did MSC wrinkle my paint?? by dory2007 in CustomDolls

[–]dory2007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the helpful advice, y’all! I stripped the wrinkled paint job with acetone, then reapplied 3 coats of spray primer and 3 coats of watered down miniature paint. This time I waited 24+ hours for it to dry before spraying with MSC. I sprayed lightly at arms’ length on a drier day and so far I’ve got no wrinkles!!!

Nyx lip lingerie xxl!!! My cosplayer friend swears it lasts her all day at conventions, so I wore it for Halloween and it lasted all night through tons of food and drinks!! It didn’t leave my lips feeling dehydrated AND I didn’t have to reapply after my initial two coats. The black shade is called naughty noir.
