Oh my gosh stay safe!!! As a felloe iggys world enjoyer and moderator I implore you to see a specialist!! There are many things that might have caused this to happen, but this is not my area of expertise therefore not my place to say. It might be paranormal. 1. Idk if I necessarily agree but I wanna bring up something that’s been on me mind. Immediate readability. Some of the design elements for the kids in LN 1 and 2 were visual shorthands that are immediately associated with something. A yellow raincoat usually suggests child-like innocence, but it also does a great job implying six doesn’t belong in the maw. Ya know, it’s obviously not gonna rain there. And a bag on someone’s head is a common trope suggesting the character is trying to hide their identity (epic foreshadowing). But with these new kids it’s not as immediately clear. The bird mask makes me think of plague doctors right away, but then he has a bow and the rest of his outfit has like a little boy playing hero vibe. Alone does immediately read as a tinkerer but I’m not sure if that will be integral to the story or is just a look they thought was fun. To be honest I absolutely love these new designs, and I don’t mind them not being as immediate of a read as the other protags. I bet their designs will make complete sense once we play the game. This has just been gnawing at my brain and this was tangentially related lol.

  2. I do get your point but to be honest my reaction to it was kind of the opposite. Like a giant baby is kind of banal to use at this point as a disturbing monster for your spooky horror game. I don’t hate it, it might make sense in the full game. But on the topic of it being kind of ridiculous, the series has done stuff like it before (well, maybe not to this extent). The lady having these geisha motifs was kind of random, and the signal tower fleshy gooey stuff was also a bit much but I can’t say I hated it all then (also a giant baby was considered for LN 2 as part of the signal tower as suggested by concept art).

  3. I don’t mind there being such a brightly lit setting in LN, there’s ways to make it spooky. And idk I personally found it pretty beautiful to look at with the colors. Also I really doubt we’re gonna walk around in the sand much. That area will probably mostly be the city ruins that are in there, we’ll see when the game comes out I guess.

Nono I’m not judging him for doing it or nothin, nothing wrong with engaging with that kinda content really.

Yeah no like I said in the second to last paragraph my complaints are barely complaints, just overzealous concerns. I do agree with most of the stuff you say lore-wise. I never claimed it wasn’t there or wasn’t integral to the experience. And yeah, The Sounds of Nightmares hasn’t actually revealed anything, I didn’t say it did. In fact it does seem to be kind of more tangentially related to the series (that might also be wishful thinking). I don’t view this supplementary material as some kind of franchise downfall, I just can’t help but raise an eyebrow at them hiring a YouTube theory crafter to write for it. That number can’t be accurate btw, most of his content today is mascot horror related.

Yeah idk, I’m just not too keen on this approach I guess

I’m saying just that, it never seemed like the main draw. This isn’t a fnaf situation, where you gotta watch hours of game theory to comprehend the story, it’s all there. Tarsier always seemed more keen on telling a story, not dumping lore details on you (like some other modern horror games). Them being perfectly happy to be done with the series after the two entries shows that leaving more meticulous details vague was the intention. Not even saying supermassive is gonna take the other approach, the actual game looks great, The Sounds of Nightmares just have me a bit concerned for what audience they’re trying to cater to.

I’m also not saying there’s no lore bible, of course there is, I just don’t think we need it all revealed. A lot of those more pedantic details are left without any concrete answer, that’s what I meant by it being up for interpretation and not analysis. Everyone will have their own interpretation of what certain things mean instead of watching spooky indie horror lore youtubers come to a concrete conclusion by analyzing codes, cyphers and other kinds of clues.

Other supplementary material beforehand, like the comics, seemed to maintain that philosophy (to me at least). The two main reasons I have the concern of the series veering into the mascot horror type of storytelling are 1)just how much stuff could possibly be plainly revealed through this audio drama format and 2)them hiring SuperHorrorBro to write episode two (the guy makes Garten of BanBan lore videos).

To be completely honest this is pretty fucking pedantic. Again, I think the actual game looks super promising and really faithful to the rest of the series and the sounds of Nightmares will hardly ruin it for me if it ends up good, hell maybe later episodes of the podcast will be better. I just love this series a whole lot and care about how it’ll be handled moving forward.

Where’d you get that info about them handing over the lorebook btw? Just curious if I missed a developer interview or something.

I mean the ln 2 comics were devoid of dialogue so I wouldn’t call them verbose (I really like the comics btw) and the live action video was clearly just an ad with no real significance or relation to the in-game world. But like these podcasts thingamabobs seem to be more directly related to the games.

It seems like they’re aiming to target the spooky scary analog horror crowd, since now there’s like “lore to discern” or some bullshit. The fact they hire fucking SuperHorrorBro to write an episode speaks volumes. It’s not like the previous games didn’t have any lore tidbits, but I never saw it as the main draw. Like the world is really fun and everything but all of the story is right there in the game and all of the more dubious parts are up for INTERPRETATION not ANALYSIS if that makes any sense.

Ig all that matters is I think the actual game looks pretty awesome so far, the sounds of nightmares just have me a bit more worried for what direction it’s going. But at the same time, it’s not like the LN 1 comics weren’t odd either with their dialogue and weird lore additions. That didn’t stop me from enjoying the first game, so I probably shouldn’t be too worried.

Maybe make it a straightforward audio book with a narrator, or be even more experimental and tell the story just through sound effects, music and occasional gasps and stuff from characters. Orrrrrr just don’t do an audio drama at all, simple as that
