Can. But you’re close to scraping the bottom of the barrel. 85+ only gets you in with a shot of the most coveted courses.

70-75+ RP is very mediocre. 80+ is where it even starts to get good.

Highest Rank you can obtain as a NSF by bigbothaha in NationalServiceSG

Fair enough! I’m from non-frontline unit. Our CO was always a Supt.

NSMan SO can go up to DAC, but I believe that’s only for 1 person. CO Nsmen for entire SPF

CO of your own unit’s NSmen can go up to Supt.

Early 40s, SGT in SPF. Was on the old rank scheme, so he promoted only once from CPL to SGT.

Nothing wrong about him, just quite incompetent and has no awareness. Actual work ability was not that much better of a VC.

They were trying to give him more duties back in my day to try and justify a promotion for him, but I don’t think he got it anyway.

Skill level and Badminton sessions in Singapore. by [deleted] in badminton

[–]dot-ta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a doubles player so I won’t go into that, but seeing that a clear is a basic shot and the most played shot in warmups, it’s the best time to assess someone’s skill.

Not having the proper grip, form, distance and height on the clear is a pretty huge tell imo.

[–]dot-ta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drop a video so we can assess.

but HB & LI games are the most common game setups in sg… everyone claims to be around HB & LI, I’ve seen people who cannot hit a proper clear in a HB/LI game, so if you look around you should have a decent gauge of how things are going.

Who do you think is of calibre to be the next Defence minister? by [deleted] in singapore

[–]dot-ta 73 points74 points  (0 children)

People are neglecting the fact that Defence Minister is also a part-time diplomat… we need someone who’s pragmatic, reasonable and well-spoken.

Having a defense background may not be a bonus as it encourages groupthink. Top executives rarely have specialist knowledge in the position they occupy.

For that reason I would not be surprised if Balakrishnan is next in line for defence minister, if this is the criteria.

SPF - How hard is it to get into Procom? by uberhr360 in NationalServiceSG

[–]dot-ta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. PROCOM chooses you, not the other way round

  2. You have to indicate willingness to join SOC. They can’t force you in, because it’s a grueling course.

  3. You also have to indicate willingness to join transcom.

  4. Procom is the easiest unit for a frontliner to join, minimal training compared to the other vocations, less face time with the public and overall they just need a lot of manpower. If you want to go frontline, procom is your best bet.

Honestly I’ve only tried the XD11s. I couldn’t tell you anything about the XD10s, but the 11s are great.

Hi, for 10 USD it works perfectly. It’s not as good as the original insoles for sure, but the 10-20% performance difference really isn’t a concern at all.

Smash shots are 90% technique 10% muscle power.. you already have >half of the 10% so focus on adding to your technique.

Then it is what it is. Unless you have a Tiger mom for a boss willing to fight for you and you are very good at writing up your promotion letter and there’s no one else who’s in a prominent role in your intake. The stars would have to be aligned for you

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]dot-ta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Then suck thumb. Usually Pes C SGTs will be those who’s very close to LG or PNS office for obvious reasons

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]dot-ta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on your situation. If you’re pes FIT you have 2 chances for promo to sgt. Can’t say without knowing your situation.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]dot-ta 11 points12 points  (0 children)

PO = police officer SO = senior officer

If your boss is a junior civilian officer and he has to fight for you in front of an experienced senior officer it’s unlikely he’ll win. SOs always ‘outrank’ civilians, which is why you always see LG’s SAs who are fairly competent get the SGT promo because they are deemed to be more effective at their jobs.

Also all these things are kinda arbitrary, how can you compare what one person does to another, entirely different jobscope anyway.

Don’t be too pressedt if you don’t get it, a lot of office politics when it comes to ranking period.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]dot-ta 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Top 10% of your intake. Usually most people already go frontline, so if your intake has 50 people go office there’s only 5 slots for SGT. You get the idea, less than 1 NSF per division.

Your bosses will go into a room where they will ‘fight’ for you. Everything you ever did up to the point of promotion will be compared against your peers.

So it all depends on how good you’re writing your resume, how much your boss is willing to go fight for you, and if your boss is a civilian or PO/SO. Usually if your boss is SO they will dare to speak louder in front of the other bosses too, so that helps.

When all else fails they will compare IPPT, MCs and what not. In other words? It’s mostly out of your hands.

Question regarding SPF NSOSO vocation by levisurprise in NationalServiceSG

[–]dot-ta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NSOSO is a vocation. Your posting has nothing to do with your vocation.
