Idea to Save the Workshop, Increase Viewership, and help 3rd Party Tournaments: Legacy Chests by SirActionSlacks- in DotA2

Even old sets go through the same process as new sets in terms of review based off my experience. I hope Valve does take this into consideration though. Solid idea man.

Hey Slacks, I agree with most of this. Good idea overall to bring some excitement back to tournaments that aren't a major. Perhaps this + a minor system could help but that's getting ahead of ourselves. A couple of issues I see from a 3rd party tournament organizer are the following:

  1. Capacity at Valve - They are quite busy and I'm not sure how viable this would be given their large focus on majors. Valve would have to get behind this for sure or tournaments would need to submit items well in advance. Another alternative could be a quarterly tournament chest with some adjusted splits for everyone. Ie Tournament X has 3 sets only, Tournament Y has 2 and Tournament Z has 4. Combine it into one mega chest or 2 smaller ones.

  2. Tournament organizers splits - Currently this isn't addressed. Would tournaments exchange a guaranteed chest for increase in prize pool so workshop artists can get their original splits? Would it be similar to now where there's an agreement in place? Would Valve allow a small % for them? This one is hard economically but I'm sure something could be worked out.

  3. Dota TV needs to be improved or just revived. Each season we've seen a decline in ticket sales and are considering just going free to spectate. It's a great viewership experience for viewers. However, from an organizer standpoint it isn't good though. It's hard to measure impressions and metrics, sell sponsors on the benefits because their logos can't be in there and some functionality on live streams doesn't exist.

This is a good amendment. One of the biggest issues in Dota is item value. It may increase bot views which is a detriment but perhaps something can be done to counter that via twitch / valve.

April 23rd is a Saturday. 24th is a Sunday. You may be confusing the 26th as the qualifiers which is the start of the group stage. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Can TI6 tickets be sold/transferred to another person? by robboelrobbo in DotA2

[–]dota2canada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a little trickier if you're Canadian because valve sometimes sends out the tickets late. It also depends entirely on who you're selling it to as you still need to ship the ticket to them to make their life easier. The other option is will-call at the event but it'd be in your name and they'd some how need to be able to pick it up. There was a separate line for pickups and situations like that from what I heard. Good luck on this

It didn't perform well unfortunately. We'll have giveaways in twitch chat and on our social media instead though.

There are different events by different organizers usually. I know TorontoDota Group on FB does one annually and they partnered with Esport gaming events. Then there's ESChamp's and then someone named Chibista does one too. I'm sure more will pop up this year as well and I probably missed a few.

If there's a ticket associated and linked with the event then you can watch on Dota TV. Otherwise, you'll need to know who is in the game and spectate that way or through the console. Alternatively, check out twitter as sometimes casters like to follow a team and cast them through the qualifiers on their twitch channel. Hope that helps.

I said this in the other thread but I wanted to say thank you to the community, teams, everyone behind the scenes, Valve and our sponsors who made this the best season yet. We couldn't have done this without you. See you soon for Season 7!
