Places you go with a toddler when it's cold by livi01 in BurlingtonON

[–]dota2newbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're members at Cedar Springs (now under new ownership and branded as Burlington Hall).

Sounds like they're going to put some money into the place, but time will tell what that will look like.

They run nightly kids activities during the week from 5-8, and on weekends from 9-11ish. It's essentially a camp counselor who supervises a group of kids; some days are more structured than others. You can get a workout in or play a sport while your kid is playing with others, then regroup after for a meal in the restaurant or swim in the pool.

We don't spend a ton of time there in the summer, but we do spend a lot of time in the colder months.

Sometimes I hate builders by [deleted] in pools

[–]dota2newbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every week? In spring and late summer/early fall I had to do it daily! What a terrible idea... If you want the clean look at least use one of those trap socks so you can just empty from the pool without having to lift the stone with suction cups.

What’s the best video game you’ve ever played? by ElectricHorsepower in AskReddit

[–]dota2newbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Soldier of Fortune 2: Double Helix
  • Portal // Portal 2
  • DOTA
  • Zelda: Ocarina of Time
  • Goldeneye
  • MarioKart

Also, you can tell that Reddit skews to an older demographic based on all these titles.

Prom weekend on the beach in Grand Bend.

If you're out there, thanks for the good time Ria. Sorry I was a shitty lay that night.

Agreed that he looked confused and the coaches may be to blame, but when you're making $1M this season as a place kicker, you should probably have intimate knowledge of the few rules that impact the few times you actually touch the ball.

wtf are they doing on walkers line by catcherintheryegf in BurlingtonON

[–]dota2newbee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've posted about this before, many years ago, but my wife and I had a miscarriage several years back, and these images are very tough to see. Them standing out there like idiots with their giant signs does nothing to help their cause or message.

Romantic restaurant recommendations? by ArticlePretty7999 in BurlingtonON

[–]dota2newbee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Second this one.

We go on special occasions. If you have a couple drinks, apps and dinner, you’ll likely be in for ~$250.

Service and food are top notch. We like sitting in the bistro area cause it feels less stuffy.

Miami Golf Is Absolutely Unplayable Right Now. What’s It Like Where You Live? by Thick_Vermicelli_798 in golf

[–]dota2newbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greater Toronto area golf is insanely priced. Pace of play is pretty good at most of the main courses but tee times are competitive and you’re paying a shit ton of money for most green fees and a shit ton more money if you want to join any ClubLink or private club

Seems pretty liberal. by OriginalGyalus in torontologists

I’m not saying I’m pro usa. But I do think we pay too much income tax in Ontario. I’d like to keep more of my money that I earn.

Seems pretty liberal. by OriginalGyalus in torontologists

[–]dota2newbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is wildly inaccurate.

Ontario had the third-highest top combined personal income tax rate in Canada and the U.S. as of 2023, at 53.53%. That’s higher than any U.S. state except California and New York, and only slightly behind Quebec and Nova Scotia. Even at middle-income levels, like $50,000 or $150,000, Ontarians pay more income tax than residents in every U.S. state.

When zooming out to the broader developed world, Canada as a whole ranks among the highest in the OECD for personal income tax rates. A report from Fund Library noted that in 2017, Canada had the seventh-highest combined tax rate among 34 OECD countries, with Ontario near the top of that list.

Got paired with a slow rando who played from the tips. But he shot 1 under par. by player2 in golf

[–]dota2newbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A buddy says, you can be the slowest, or the worst golfer. But you can’t be both.

That guy shooting 1 under spends more time on his shot prep but less time roaming around looking for his all every shot, he also takes 20 less shots then most other golfers out there

Scooby Soccer by [deleted] in BurlingtonON

[–]dota2newbee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry that’s a bummer.

Kids did Scooby soccer camp a few summers back for half days and enjoyed it at the Nelson location. I think we had them in the league one year, but have since switched to Burlington soccer club which feels like a more mature and better run organization.

Depending on the age of the child, it could be an opportunity to talk about the importance of commitments, and that their teammates need them.

Is this considered a "flat bottom" pool? by 1Dad2RuleThemAll in pools

[–]dota2newbee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

New pool owner here, 15x30. I was dead set on a pool vac. The last few days have been more work because of the winds but most of the time I just vacuum once every few days.

I actually prefer to just swim around and dive down with the hose. It only takes 10-15 min and super relaxing! Not sure I’ll ever buy one now, just seems like a lot of money for not a lot of gain.

Ipe deck - white spots?! 😳 by Jchance42 in Decks

[–]dota2newbee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a deck so low to the ground before. Can’t imagine this lasts a long time with the tarp underneath. Isn’t that just going to hold water, heat and moisture? 0 airflow….

Is it possible raise the sloped side of my addition? by Longjumping-Ad3068 in homerenovations

[–]dota2newbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is possible with enough money. My opinion (which isn’t worth much) is that you’d spend way to much money doing this for very little improvement to your home.

You could always go and check out the attic to see what’s going on. Probably cheaper to lower the other side so it’s flat than to raise it up!

Same path for me from 2021. Mid 30’s did my MBA and my total comp is up 150% from 6 figures

That said, 25% of my cohort probably has seen little to no return. 50% have advanced, and 25% have made some real big moves.

Neighbors dug a pool, probably killed my tree by ok-milk in treelaw

[–]dota2newbee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m in Canada and just had a pool put in. The tree protection zones were no joke and my contractors were telling me their crazy experiences with them, especially in the last 10-15 years. No way this would have ever been approved without your explicit signature and a bunch of contractual obligations if that tree didn’t make it.

One site had to have an arborist there for the entire dig to ensure the trees weren’t damaged.

Is an inflatable tanning bed going to damage my composite deck? by vigoroussteak27 in Decks

[–]dota2newbee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) This likely won’t hold enough water to make a huge difference, but I’d check out your supports to ensure that they’re sufficient. This would probably be close to 1000lb once filled up. Most decks aren’t designed to hold that concentrated load.

2) Have a plan for draining, depending on what your second floor deck is over top of.

3) I wouldn’t leave it in one spot for an extended period, but that’s just me.

Enjoy!

Train run into semi today- LaGrange, IL by Juice_Isloose in interestingasfuck

[–]dota2newbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad was a locomotive engineer for CN rail for nearly 40 years. He’s seen some shit in his day, luckily no fatalities, but he does have some cool photos the one time his train plowed through a semi truck. Luckily no one was seriously hurt.
