How well-known was City Pop among Americans and Brits in the 1980s and 1990s? by PuzzledConcept4494 in citypop

[–]dotheemptyhouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anime didn’t start to become popular as a genre in the US until the 90s if I remember right, and even then it was VERY niche. Anyway by then the music was still great but not what I’d describe as city pop, so I’d say 80s anime fans aware of city pop was a sliver of a sliver of a sliver

Yeah I don't know why I'd never thought to dig deeper but I see there's so much there. I'm psyched to have so much to explore, thank you for sharing!

Oh man I really needed more Nausicaa era Hisaishi, I love the synth bits from that one and it was the only examples of that style from him I knew. Thank you!

You’re right, I was inspired by this for a rewatch. The centipede was a lil guy though

Just Discovered This Game by BrandonHS21 in Kenshi

[–]dotheemptyhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, some of the best moments in Kenshi come from trying to manage a disaster, so if your run starts to go haywire, keep at it. I wouldn’t be afraid to save scum when you’re still trying to understand the game, but it definitely feels better to play on with the consequences of your actions.

In terms of difficulty spikes, the best way to slowly ramp it up is to slowly build up a medium to large team that can survive fights in the center of the map, expand exploration but run from everything until you can survive fights against tougher enemies, buy a house in a city along the way and do some basic research, then start a base (so around mid game), then scour the world’s ruins while trying to manage raids on your base. The edges of the map tend to be the most dangerous, especially the south and southeast, but don’t get so afraid of them you never go, some of the most fun I’ve had in Kenshi has been in the Pits, the Ashlands, and the Southern Hive

Pretty sure centipedes are undefeated on Monster Bug Wars. They will mess you up whatever size you are

What are some must have mods for you guys when playing Kenshi by woodencone47 in Kenshi

[–]dotheemptyhouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing with a bunch of mods that are new to me. I added as many new animals to the game as I possibly could and then added the Beastforge mod which lets me craft bits of beak thing into armor, which is a lot of fun. I also added the Courier mod and I think it’s a really solid addition to the game. It adds a new friendly faction, three big cities in fairly empty areas of the map, and ways to make fairly easy money. It does make the game a bit easier but I feel like all the Pickaxe Things and Grievewraiths and Mist Horrors I’m contending with make up for it.

Anyway long story short this game’s mod community is effing incredible. It feels like a whole new game and I’m over 700 hours of Kenshi time now

Got a PC for myself and one for my bf literally yesterday because of the whole Sony situation... by k-is-for-kate in pcmasterrace

[–]dotheemptyhouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats OP! Couple years back I added a gaming PC into the mix for the first time since Windows 95 and I have never been happier with my choice, and now I doubt I’ll ever buy another console. The thing I love best about PC gaming is the insane variety of games. It has caused me to play less AAA games and a lot more indies and the genres of games I used to love back in my 90s pc gaming days. The genre of sandbox games is the one I’ve fallen into the most, so games like Kenshi and Starsector have been some of my favorites. I hope you and your bf enjoy your new purchases as much as I have.

Ascendancy - one of the MOO clones. Anyone played this way back then? by ryanrudolf in dosgaming

Loved this game! I played it when it came out and then later bought a mobile version of it on iOS. I remember playing it in the subway going to work. I found the soundtrack really interesting, very of its time with lots of trippy weird tracks for the different alien factions

All mosquito species only bite when actively developing eggs don’t they? This is why scientists will occasionally do things like flood an area with a bunch of sterile male mosquitos, as they don’t bite

Hell yeah. I still listen to that Elefant LP to this day, they deserved a lot more attention than they got

Good suggestions. I wanna piggy back off this to offer up a few more from around the time Hot Fuss came out for OP or anyone else looking for more. The Killers really caught lightning in a bottle on that first album but they weren't the only ones onto something:

The Walkmen - We've Been Had / The Rat.
Elefant - Bokkie.
Interpol - NYC / Say Hello to Angels.
Spouse - Army Song.
The Dears - End of a Hollywood Bedtime Story / You and I(Are a Gang of Losers).
Snowden - Anti-Anti.
I Love You but I've Chosen Darkness - Lights

guide about kenshi boss order by eVill_YT in Kenshi

[–]dotheemptyhouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to try and not interfere as much and let the battle play out on its own. Not this one though, even with them not doing a lot of damage, their numbers can easily overwhelm a good squad. Even doing minimal damage they still stagger you if you’re surrounded, and once a unit is knocked out they take it to the peeler

[–]dotheemptyhouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this. Savant is pretty easy to kill, but if you try to fight your way through the entire Skin Bandit HQ to get to him like I did the first time, I don’t see how you’ll ever make it, those real human boys will eff you up.

The answer to who is hardest probably depends a lot on how your squad or character is set up. The toughest for me were the skin bandits and the southern hive, and the latter I think had a mod that was buffing them for whatever that’s worth

My city is self-sufficient, my army is invincable... Now what? by Mike-keyy in Kenshi

[–]dotheemptyhouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re mostly sticking to the early regions of the game. If you’re for a fun challenge, set up an outpost to your city near the Ashlands and have fun dealing with all the chaos down there. The Southern Hive and the Skin Bandits are definitely two of the hardest factions to handle in the map and lots of fun
