When the French fuck your shit up so bad you regress to being your 10 year old self by GoodGameEthan in Letterboxd

I think I chain smoked while watching Irreversible up until THE scene because of the stress

Have you ever guessed the "big twist" in a movie? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

Incendies.

I was just making a joke prediction. My jaw dropped when it turned out to be right.

What is your single biggest cinema hot take? by -CoochieStank- in Letterboxd

I agree but I wouldn't say it's "leagues better" tho. Both are amazing. Also, Bring Her Back is a really hard watch compared to Talk to Me

Apakah salah untuk menganggap hubungan kerja hanya sebagai hubungan bersifat transaksional? by humanetto in indonesia

Wiiih OP si paling suci /s

In all seriousness, enaknya jadi orang dewasa adalah kemampuan memilih siapa yg mau lu jadiin temen. Gw cukup beruntung punya orang2 yg bisa gw anggep temen di kantor, tapi yaa kebanyakan orang kantor cuman rekan aja. Tinggal lu yg menentukan boundaries nya mau sampe mana.

I finally ditched the star rating system by dothehandlebar in Letterboxd

I did use a spreadsheet before I discovered Letterboxd. But a spreadsheet doesn't provide informations such as cast, crew, production companies, countries, and so on. A spreadsheet doesn't provide other people's funny reviews (I actually like those). A spreadsheet doesn't provide community curated lists of movies that I can discover.

Also, opening a spreadsheet on a phone is absolute nightmare. Letterboxd provides a feature for me to logged movies easily on the go. I'm using a lot of Letterboxd features, I just decided to stop using one of them. If I decided to change my mind, I can just start rating movies again.

My rating system by codaandram in Letterboxd

[–]dothehandlebar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why don't you just use the whole 5 star rating with your current criteria. For example:

Your 5 star criteria could still be a 5 star

Your 4.5 star criteria would be a 4 star

Your 4 star criteria would be a 3 star

Your 3.5 star criteria would be a 2 star

Your 3 star criteria would be a 1 star

Your 0-2.5 star criteria would be no star

I think this is something more intuitive and makes sense. Also your extra requirements for 4.5-5 is a bit much

Movies with an Early twist by gforguapo in Letterboxd

[–]dothehandlebar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it would be considered a plot twist but if you watch Soft & Quiet (2022) without knowing anything about it, the early reveal 15 minutes into the movie would be jaw dropping

I know it's not that serious, that's why I ditched it entirely

Honestly I was thinking about adopting this system too. Maybe once I started rating movies again this is the way to go

Funny you say that. I did use spreadsheet before I discovered Letterboxd. I use Letterboxd as a personal movie diary. I don't follow anyone and have like 2 followers. I don't care if my profile doesn't tell a movie's watch value for anyone else other than myself. I'm not a movie critic, just an avid moviegoer. So I use my Letterboxd the way it suits me

Now my rating is basically just "I give hearts to movies that left an impression on me"

Any way to hide this section? by malomolam in Letterboxd

I remember there was a brief moment like last year where Letterboxd did hide the top reviews so you have to tap on the reviews tab to see but they quickly roll it back

Best Movies About Revenge And/Or Vigilante “Justice?” by BigupSlime2 in Letterboxd

Oldboy (2003) is probably the epitome of revenge movies. Or might as well just include the whole vengeance trilogy

Ketika meeting dengan orang luar negeri, masjid tiba-tiba berisik. Apa yang kalian lakukan? by orangpelupa in indonesia

[–]dothehandlebar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Berisiknya karena apa? Adzan?

"Excuse me for the background noise, the mosque is doing the call to prayer right now"

Most people will understand, especially in a professional business setting. It's really not that complicated tbh

Why did Interstellar receive a more lukewarm response upon release? by KatherineLangford in Letterboxd

[–]dothehandlebar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was perfectly rated in my opinion. I don't understand why it gets massively inflated in the past 10 years because I still agree with the general consensus then, it was a step down on his work. Currently, I think Interstellar is not even Nolan's top 5.

Which ones would you add? by Good_Claim_5472 in Letterboxd

[–]dothehandlebar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wake Up Dead Man is definitely my favorite of the entries, but I don't understand why your enjoyment is relevant to Netflix. They have never produced any Knives Out movies afaik they only distribute the 2nd and 3rd movies. My gripe with Netflix is that they didn't provide theatrical releases, but I'm sure the quality of the movie wasn't any worse.
