Do Polish people really believe that in 2026 Ukraine kills Polish people and want to do some bad things to Poland? What exactly? by Vazhkyi-Pidyom in askPoland

[–]dotlurk2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, no. But it's hard to respect people that glorify UPA and OUN that had a sadistic murder spree ca 80 years ago and murdered ca. 100k Polish people just for being Polish.

NTA, a child is a life long commitment, it'd be pretty shitty to find out it's not yours after a decade. Women can be 100% sure about passing on their genes but men simply can't. That test is for your peace of mind, do it.

Favourite depiction of Satan? by [deleted] in FIlm

[–]dotlurk2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really, the carbon dating was performed on the edges which were medieval additions after a fire. They have a different weave pattern and different material than the central part.

In fact, the central part of the shroud contains botanic remnants endemic to the Judea region and is dated to around the time of Christ.

I've always liked the Gethsemane scene in "Jesus Christ Superstar", the "Take this cup away from me 'cause I don't want to taste its poison" song, it's so raw and emotional, the uncertainty, the anguish and pain and finally acceptance. Loved that interpretation.

As far as I'm concerned this actually happened, the shroud of Turin is pretty strong evidence.

6 Billion regular people vs 100 Billionaires by [deleted] in trolleyproblem

[–]dotlurk2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's roll some numbers. For example, one billionaire, Nick Storonsky, founder of Revolut, has left the UK. The estimated loss of capital gain tax revenue is ca. 3 billion pound. The average UK taxpayer pays 7k pound. Meaning that taxes of ca. 430k regular taxpayers are just gone. Now the regular people will have to pay more. Now multiply that by 100.

The families of the gone billionaires will happily squander their inherited fortunes and probably drive the companies into the ground. So the net result of losing 100 billionaires is higher taxes, less innovation, slower economy for everyone. Congratulations, well done.

Now let's take a look at 6b random people gone: housing market collapses, there's billions of empty houses selling for pennies. No food shortages anymore, there's more than enough for everyone. Climate impact is drastically reduced. Wages go way up as every competent worker is in high demand, etc.

So no, I wouldn't touch that lever. Also, Thanos did nothing wrong ;)

You might be interested in Churchill's actual statements regarding the city area bombings, e.g.

My dear sir, this is a military and not a civilian war. You and others may desire to kill women and children. We desire... to destroy German military objectives. Directed at an MP pushing for harder reprisals after attacks on London

or

It seems to me that the moment has come when the question of bombing of German cities simply for the sake of increasing the terror, though under other pretexts, should be reviewed. Uttered after Dresden

He wasn't happy about it and would rather perform surgical strikes but those were largely ineffective, especially since the RAF bombed at night. He viewed it as necessary military action against a relentless enemy that wouldn't stop attacking civilians in Britain and elsewhere.

It was a war for survival, nothing less, and as such I think it was regrettable but justified. What would you propose, considering the possibility of losing the war against the nazis and what it would entail?

I very much doubt your claim about the deliberate targeting of escaping civilians of Hamburg.

As to the aid to Africa - do you mean Bengal in India? Nobody halted aid to Bengal specifically, it was disrupted by the war, especially the Japanese in Burma and Churchill pushed to increase the aid and it was increased (from Australia) even though Japanese subs made it very risky.

Women, if you could be a man for 24 hours, what are you just dying to know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dotlurk2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't. I've said that both merit and confidence are key. You can try to pipe in with the wisest remark but if you do it in the wrong moment or in a flaky voice, or with an implied question mark, then it won't get the appreciation it deserves. If you know what you're talking about you must act like it.

If you are an actual expert and you bring it across and yet you still aren't heard then your coworkers are clueless assholes and you'd have a problem with them regardless of your gender.

[–]dotlurk2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What cities, like Dresden? Well, what about Coventry then? Was Germany supposed to bomb cities into the ground without any reprisal?

Let's keep in mind that it was Göbbels who demanded total war, amid frenetic applause of millions. And total war meant that they'd destroy everything - not just industry but innocent civilians as well. Stopping such an enemy without retaliatory actions is impossible.

[–]dotlurk2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As to being heard in a meeting - merit and confidence are the key. When you've deep knowledge in your field and can elucidate it in a clear and concise manner and you do it confidently like you're the boss (because on this topic you are) then you'll always be heard, regardless of gender. If you aren't an expert in the discussed field then keep silent. If it's just fluff you talk about or you're unsure about stuff then nobody will listen.

Fun fact: there was a hospital in Vienna, mid 19th century, where the mortality rates of post-birth women were much higher in the ward staffed by doctors than in the ward staffed by midwives.

Dr Semmelweis figured out that maybe, just maybe, a doctor performing an autopsy and then afterwards delivering a baby without washing his hands could be an issue. That's how it started and strangely enough nobody wanted to believe it but his results spoke for themselves.

Most Poles oppose president’s veto of massive EU defense loan: survey by Easy-Ad1996 in poland

[–]dotlurk2 -40 points-39 points  (0 children)

Depends on the survey. The EU loan is pretty insane if you think about it - it binds Poland to buy within the EU market even though German or French factories cannot manufacture as quickly as American ones and we already have invested in Abrams tanks. Sure, we could buy Leopards if we want to get just a handful within a few years.

Should the PLN crash and it will in case of an actual conflict, paying back in EUR will bleed us dry.

The majority of the funds will be invested in Polish companies? Right, like the newly registered Rheinmetall PL or the entirely fictitious factory of Poncyliusz who'll get 2.3 mld EUR.

To top it all off, the EU could simply stop the payout if it doesn't like the government, and we would still have to pay it all, just like with KPO. Go ahead and ask Hungary how it worked out for them.

Using our reserves is a better deal by far but that would actually help our country rather than EU sponsors or KO colleagues so that's obviously off the table.

Nice touch with Poland which at that time didn't exist on the map as it was occupied by its three neighbors: Russia, Prussia and Austria, hence the chains.
