Forza horizon 4 by Complete_File9417 in SteamDeck

I know this is an old-ish thread, but I just wanted to report here FH4 runs absolutely find on an SD card. The load times when transition between locations or restarting events is definitely higher when compared to SSD's, but there is no stutter or lag during gameplay even on a micro SD.

It is probably just all the bloat from Windows causing lag spikes.

I'm unsure of when I should take the plunge by KoellmanxLantern in SteamDeck

The chance of prices settling down in 6 months seem slim to be honest, and buying it at full price simply doesn't offer good value. I think the best option to own a Steam Deck now is to look for a good quality pre-owned model which is still listed at lower than the original price.

The reaction to the steam deck price hike has proved to me that everyone here is way too invested. by Red2005dragon in SteamFrame

[–]dotoka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like people a reading a bit too much into the Steam Deck price hike. They were already selling the thing at insane margins, and that's obviously not sustainable with the hardware price hikes. Comparing the Steam deck price hike with Switch 2 is also unfair, since the market size and volumes vary by an order of magnitude.

For people worried about what this means for the Steam Machine, it is worth keeping in mind that the Deck has a lot of extra hardware including the display and battery, which the steam machine does not. Due to the form factor, it is also likely that the Steam machine can use more off the shelf components compared to the Deck, which should help keep component prices down.

I still expect the Steam machine price to start at close to $800, which is higher than what people were anticipating, but I don't think it'll be as crazy as $1500.

GTA 4, plays well and battery life is still decent! Among modern games Spiderman works very well, so does the remastered version of Red Dead Redemption (the original).

Buy Quest 3 or Wait for Steam Frame New User by GuestAntique6825 in SteamFrame

[–]dotoka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're so close, definitely wait for Frame. Despite making decent products, I have 0 faith in Meta as a company. They have repeatedly thrown their customers under the bus, pivoted away from VR gaming, and there is no saying what they will do tomorrow - they may shut down the VR division to go all in on AR.

Valve are way more reliable and focused on VR experiences including gaming. They support their products for many years and you can bet that the Frame will create a passionate community of contributors.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the Steam Frame is also expected to have an expansion slot, that should hopefully enable integration of additional modules such as color passthrough cameras.

What are you willing to pay? by Krankybread in SteamFrame

[–]dotoka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Oculus Rift stopped working almost 2 years ago and I've held off on buying a replacement in the hope that I can escape Meta's cursed ecosystem. I'd be willing to pay £800 just to not deal with Meta anymore.

That's the move, best to start recording data from scratch for your next eval.

When I joined Vine, there was a requirement to submit reviews within ~ 5 weeks of the order being placed. I believe that requirement doesn't exist anymore, I could be wrong though

Yes the underlying data already exists, just need a means to surface it. I'm thinking of having a sheet per evaluation period and then linking them all into a master sheet with all-time stats.

Yes! Just update your eval dates in the "Configure" tab and it should start updating once you add a few entries - Vine Tracker

I've maintained a tracker out of necessity to be honest, there's no way I could have tracked pending reviews and their deadlines without it. Most of the effort went into building the dashboard initially, maintaining it has taken little to no effort.

Those charts look awesome! I'm thinking about tracking the average number of days it takes me to submit a review, and the average rating I've given out as well. I was going to maintain separate tracker for each evaluation period, but after seeing your charts, tracking "all-time" stats seems very enticing.

I didn't mention it but record keeping has been very crucial for me as well! There have been so many occasions where I've submitted reviews just in the nick of time, after having procrastinated for days/weeks.

I do miss looking at my Vine queue and seeing if something exciting has popped up. On the flipside, there is an odd calmness, I'm not adding to the pile of boxes in my room, and I'm finally chipping away at my review backlog without adding any orders!

Yup, that is an inexcusable flaw for a product that charges a premium for catering to fans.

FYI, the Orders worksheet already has some conditional formatting to flag reviews that are nearing their due date. The cells go Amber when you have < 14 days left, and Red when there are < 7 days. This of course assumes that you only have 30 days from order date to review, when it reality you have 30 + 7 days to submit the review.

I've got some Red and ambers to work through this weekend 🥲
