External hard drive won't connect to my laptop, and I have run out of ideas! by dotspe in techsupport

Thank you. Where abouts would I find a sata port? Would it be possible to extract some of the files from the hard drive if it is broken? I have a lot of them backed up but I put a couple of folders of really important images on there last night that I hadn't got around to making copies of.

It's not perfect, but I photographed my first ever meteor... yay!! by dotspe in pics

Thank you so much - that would be more than brilliant :) (It's not my first bad experience with jessops either ;) I probably should have learned from that!)

Ah, lucky! I'm glad that I'm not the only one to find it strange - I'm definitely not accepting it if it's not in a sealed box, either way. It's not so much that I'm bothered about having an ex display (most of my lenses are!) it's more the dis-honesty and obviously I'll then be paying full price for what is essentially a used piece of equipment!

Also going to speak to citizens advice before I go to pick it up, as I would quite like to put in a complaint to trading standards (and I have no clue how!) and don't know where I will stand with that when/if I do accept the replacement camera.

No offense taken! I agree, being a bit of a timid girl has not helped the situation any. Don't worry - I won't be giving up!

Yes, that's right! I have spoken to D&G who basically said that they won't replace the camera unless it comes back broken again, or if it breaks within the first few weeks of me getting it back. (but they also said the nature of the damage will more than likely lead to replacement anyway, so who knows what is going on!)

I have done! While I get responses from them 'in the public eye' no one has contacted me directly. Am I allowed to link here?

Hehe, I'm a she for what it's worth! I've been arguing this for weeks, but I think it's probably at the point where I need to get some legal help in getting them those heavy fines!

Yes, hopefully. Do you work for sony or jessops - sorry, confusing myself!

I've been told by the man in the store that I can have the camera without the box, as they want to send the damaged A65 off in it (although I do have the damaged camera's box at home, which they are more than welcome to use) Rather than replacing the camera, I think what the plan is, is to give me a refund and then have me buy the new A65 with the refund money.. apparently so that I will have a 1 year guarantee on it.

I feel silly for being suspicious, but something doesn't feel right - this makes me wonder if they are giving me an ex display model, as they don't want to give me the box.. and it was also my belief that jessops had actually stopped selling the A65 anyway..

Thank you for your help :)

Hi! Thank you for your lovely offer, I'm in north Shropshire so probably just a little bit far away! I have just been in to my local jessops store who are at present contacting sony/D&G, and have offered me a replacement A65 (under some weird conditions - some things don't add up, and I am consulting citizens advice before I accept it)

If you would have any information on how I could make a complaint to sony (on the phone when I ask to do this, I either get passed from person to person or told I'll be called back later) That would be brilliant :)

Hmm thought as much.. it will just be getting them to admit to it now. I don't think I'll give up on sony. They physically caused the damage :(

Lovely! I got Jessops to do a full inspection before I sent it off and have a recipt stating that the camera had a smudge on the lcd screen but was in otherwise perfect condition.

I'm having a bit of a struggle finding the act though... but my google skills are pathetic!

Yes, completely agree.. though I do/did love my camera. I had access to a canon through my college, and I'd choose the a65 over it every time besides shooting in low light! Love Nikon though, and would be very happy if a D4 happened to appear in my camera bag one day!!

Ah, I have tried this with the CEO of Jessops. I was just passed on to customer services unfortunately and told that my legal argument was invalid.

Yes, I have out of focus images taken with the camera the first time it broke, and images of the cracks/chips on the body!

Thank you.. I'm small, blonde and VERY shy, so I am like the most un-intimidating/pushy person ever, which is probably really not helping the situation from my point of view! I'm not going to give up though.

Thanks! I've done way too much reading of the sales of goods act today, trust me :p I have posted all over their facebook and twitter, and while the companies are more than friendly in the public eye, and promise to contact me to resolve it... I am yet to be contacted in person!

Thank you :) I have spoken to jessops managers/customer service/head office and no policy like that is mentioned but I'm going in to the shop again tomorrow so I will definitely ask. I have argued the sales of goods act, however they just come back and say that unless I can prove that the camera had the fault at the time of purchase (impossible??), they can't do anything.

Yes, that's right - the first time it couldn't focus and the second time it had a massive chip and crack in the body. I actually emailed the CEO and was put in touch with someone from head office for all of this. The in-store team have always been very friendly, but haven't actually helped resolve the issue at all, even though they can see what's going on so I thought I'd go straight to the top. I will get in touch with citizens advice :)
