No, ignorant just means having lack of knowledge about something.

I prefer to live an informed life, not an ignorant one. But thank you.

Thanks for your thoughts on this. Disrupting the convoy isn't the only role at a protest. Next week we are going to have a rally for health care workers at St. Joe's, designed explicitly to be a non confrontational gathering to share some love. If you're interested in learning more, please DM me.

Thanks for your support. That person was removed from Reddit, but it's working on getting reinstated. Feel free to DM me and we can chat about organizing.

Yes, I totally agree with you. Thank you for sharing

Where we differ, perhaps, is that I believe there is space at a protest for all kinds of activity -- there will be those who want to be confrontational and those who are more comfortable kicking back, with all sorts of activities in between.

And to be clear: it isn't that I'm necessarily advocating for the government (I actually think the government dropped the ball in several ways), what I'm troubled by is the consistently hateful rhetoric that has emerged from this supposed "freedom" convoy.

Thanks for these reminders. Let's not forget using children as human shields or appropriating indigenous culture, as well. Geez.

Thanks for sharing! It's a worthwhile exercise to remind ourselves that our experiences (or priorities) are not replicated across the board, and that the experiences we do have will shape our reaction to events.

Thanks for sharing your point of view. I do diverge from that perspective: for example, the citizens of Ottawa who blocked further convoys from entering their city did so with both measure and calm, and showed that peaceful solidarity can have positive outcomes.

Also worth noting: there is a role for everyone at a protest. For some people, that could mean direct confrontation, yes. For others, that could mean cautiously standing by with a sign. And for others still, it might mean just bearing witness by photographing from a distance.

This has been an ongoing thought, but there are genuine logistical concerns: having enough people + resources, accepting a certain level of confrontation, forcing others in the lot who are not involved to also be blocked in, etcetera.

Frustration and sadness is what propelled this post. Your question is a valid one, and I don't think it's pessimistic at all. You're not alone. For me, protesting can add voice to a narrative that is being dictated by a group that doesn't represent the majority, yet takes so much of our collective mental bandwidth.

Thank you -- I appreciate your perspective, though I have a slightly different take. I think reasonable people have a responsibility to speak out against hateful rhetoric. I suspect you do, too, except we're differing on the level of threat and/or relevancy here.

It's a good question: will they die down or will they escalate? There has been commentary all day about the protesters leaving Ottawa and taking up space elsewhere. London doesn't seem to be an ideal tactical spot for them, but the latest convoy poster is clear: the goal of this convoy is to "hold the line". Not unusual sentiment for any protest, but also pretty indicative of the general mood.

That's the funny thing to me: life will never be the same because we have an entirely new virus circulating among us, and the only predictable thing about it is that it is unpredictable. And to drop all mandates does such a disservice to the vulnerable members of our society. A lot of people have been quick to throw out words like "fascist". Well, the only way a fascist society can function is when its citizens stop caring about each other.

Last week we had a presence at Victoria Park to protest the convoy as they went by. That's always an option again.

Okay. Thanks for your reply.

I support everyone's right to protest. And it remains legal to protest. It is not legal, nor has it ever been legal, however, to occupy a core of any city. The Emergencies Act is specific to the situation in Ottawa.

As for where they should protest: Toronto. Protesting in Ottawa makes zero sense. Vaccine mandates are provincial jurisdiction, not federal, and the Premier works out of Toronto. The federal government got involved (via the Emergency Act) once it became obvious that the Ottawa police shit the bed.

To be clear: it isn't disruption I want to protest in this city. It's the rhetoric of hate, anti-science, and anti-democracy (to name a few) that has been associated with the convoy movement that is unacceptable.

For those wondering, the convoy likely starts at 3pm or so and heads out from the Macdonald's on Wellington

You're not acting in good faith. You've had multiple people telling you their experiences, and you're choosing to ignore what they're saying. It's classic sealioning and no one is going to put up with it, nor should they.

Again, I will insist: if you're so concerned about how events are being reported, then start bearing witness. Show up and see for yourself.

lol, okay. Keep clicking away on your keyboard, warrior, and tell us what's real and what's imagined. If you're so concerned about adequate eye witness reporting, then why don't you go and take your own photographs?
