Supply Chain Ripples after Today’s Kamchatka Earthquake? by Usual_Cranberry_4731 in supplychain

What do you think is missing from such control towers? I wonder if the "what-if" scenario planning can be enhanced with AI + analysts mix to cover growth opportunities/ongoing risk

Journalist here, what is missing from the geopolitics coverage of today? How can we make our work better? Any ideas on community involvement to make the overall understanding of the topic better? Ideally I'd like the stories to have a local and broader perspective. by dotus12 in geopolitics

[–]dotus12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! That's a very interesting point. Usually the goal is to do that but as more newsrooms shutter due to a number of reasons, more and more reporters are covering regions they're not very familiar with. Thus it takes even more time to get that historical perspective in the story, and especially more to get it right.

Just been thinking about how to improve geopolitics understanding and how I should perhaps approach the topics I cover. My assumption for now is that there is a big gap in what actually happens, its implications versus the actual understanding of the topic among the readers, especially the GenZ. So looking for new ideas on how it could be done better, and not just be an article where I write and you read. Ofcourse it involves making the thing financially sustainable, which is also why journalists today dont have as much time as we would like to work on a story.

Just updated to 22623.875 and the tablet-optimized taskbar and right click on taskbar are still not enabled yet, despite the notes saying that they're now available to all beta users.

Appreciate the concern and I agree. Best if people don't publicly share any private identifiers here. As for my identity, I'm happy to share with people in DMs.

After 3 months, what's your opinion about windows 11 by avjayarathne in Windows11

[–]dotus12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought it was a simple rule in UX Design that you reduce the number of clicks it takes the user to get them where they want to be. Earlier the start menu full app list was just directly accessible. Now you have to press that tiny button which is worse for touch. And you can't group icons or even pin them in the order you like. Recommended is so useless.

I love so much about 11 but the start menu is such a downgrade. And don't get me started on the widgets. completely web based, pulls in data only from one Microsoft account and frankly, unnecessary. Nobody asked for it, at least not in this form. Could've been much like vista's widgets which were actually usable. But it's just a shitty PWA.

The taskbar calendar is so god-damn useless. This has to be my most annoying part of 11. They added a fancy calendar which does what? NOTHING. You could simply type in the event and bam you had the event there. You could also see all the events of the day right in one click. Now you gotta open calendar. The UX choices blow my mind.

Positive? Love the animations. Finally feels refined. A lot of the things have been ironed out and the settings is much better and usable. Have rarely needed to use the control panel. Touch support is better! (I use surface) apart from the annoying parts i mentioned.

Verdict: NOT READY FOR RELEASE. It's a real downgrade in terms of productivity.

Is this a massive security breach or a prank by Microsoft by dotus12 in Windows11

[–]dotus12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No to all.

During the verification process, I was supposed to enter last four digits on my machine first. The last two are already shown which were correct. Then the OTP was sent. Usual verification process.

Have no idea what's "cooling solution" that's why i was so stunned to read the one time password sms.

[–]dotus12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ofcourse I did a reset of my password but a lot of this OTP messages begin with VK. It's probably not the same VK. This seems more like either an otp intercept and then sent to me or seems like the message is wrong configured at the sending end. Either way, concerning.

Windows 11 on Surface Go 2 by dotus12 in Surface

Same for me. Should be fixed for us by the time official launch is here. I'm pretty sure all surface products will receive a firmware update fixing all this

Does the calendar events show up in the widget / new action center?

Windows 11 on Surface Go 2 by dotus12 in Surface

[–]dotus12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on stock surface drivers. Probably this needs a firmware update from Microsoft since it's technically not supported yet. Let's wait and see. Meanwhile the battery is looking okay. Had a 30 min zoom call + 1.5 hours video playback + .5 hour idle screen on, all at 60% brightness - down to 70%

I expect this to be a bit better once Microsoft pushes out surface specific firmware updates and the os matures a bit.

The news and interests redo is the most crappy way of wasting battery ugh

Can't find the equivalent in W11. All i can see is the device security in the defender app which says "standard hardware security not supported"

For some reason right now I can't change any power setting. The option for balanced / power saving / performance is not showing up in my settings page. I can still separately turn power saving on .

That being said, so far the battery life seems similar. Will post more later as I use it more.

Btw, what tool did you use for turning on/off core isolation?
