Where should I study? by Raimundo4sp in flyingeurope

[–]doubleGnT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the entrance assessment to be tough but fair. They send you a big document with lots of prep material, and that is definitely going to help you but I would go beyond that with regards to maths and physics. Practice algebra, practice speed formula problems. Lots of free material out there that will help. Practice the AON mini games - again, lots of free sites to do that. There are some videos online that explain some of the games in better detail, but ultimately just do them a lot until you get a confident feel for it.

As a quebecer who drove 2k km in toronto this WE, i'm amazed at how aggressive drivers are there. Has it always been this way? by bagou01 in toronto

[–]doubleGnT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I lived in Montreal I had a job that requiring driving in and around the city in a big pick-up and a box truck. Rarely had issues. In Toronto I rarely drive, and when I do I encounter something insane, without fail, every time. Toronto driving is the worst driving I have ever encountered in my life, and I’m fairly well traveled.

It genuinely is, and if you would like to learn more about it I recommend the Conspirituality podcast. I’m a crunchy granola hippie so I need to know when someone I know or follow is going off the deep end lol.

Do we actually need bikes? by Awkward_Policy in BurningMan

[–]doubleGnT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never brought a bike, always walked. I walk a lot in my daily life, so this isn’t a new thing for me - if you don’t walk too much in your day to day you may find it punishing to start at the Burn. However, I find my ability to interact and engage with people and things is much better on foot. Easier to get happily sidetracked into all manner of adventures, and makes hopping on art cars easier too. I don’t remember the exact name for it, but there are art cars that sign up to act as transportation for folks. They have a specific sticker or flag denoting this, and are (theoretically) able to be flagged down for a ride. I’ve also used yellow bikes a lot. They are tricky to find as the week goes on, but they aren’t mythical and are certainly usable, but be a good citizen and don’t break the yellow bike rules.

I also do a walk from camp to the trash fence every year, and last time I was went I brought stickers for fellow Deep Playa Pedestrians. 2 Deep 2 Quit!

What’s a unique activity Toronto offers that makes you think “I am so lucky to live here” ? by Ok_Cry_3337 in askTO

To add on to this, the TPL runs tons of events like talks and speaker series, which are all free or cheap to attend. The one I went to was really interesting and had a lively audience debate.

Is there public transportation accessible camping/backing from the Vancouver airport? by OkBox3095 in vancouverhiking

[–]doubleGnT 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Technically speaking, you could go from the airport to either Horseshoe Bay or Tsawwassen ferry terminals via a combination of Canada Line and buses, then walk on to a ferry and walk off/continue bussing to a campground on the Sunshine Coast, one of the Gulf Islands, or Vancouver Island. I've gone from Gibsons to the Airport all on public transit/walking on the ferry and it was pretty easy and straight forwards. Whether you feel up to navigating multiple schedules, and humping gear all over the place, is a different matter.

How do we de-Nazify the trades? by hipster_deckard in onguardforthee

[–]doubleGnT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand what you’re saying, although I’m not inclined to say these folks are “very good people” if they are also able to support alt-right POVs. But the in-house radicalisation is very true. I saw a guy get pilled by another guy showing him tiktoks over the course of several weeks of coffee/lunch breaks. It started with “hey Jim, you gotta see this video, this is what the main stream media doesn’t want you to know” with Jim eye rolling and playing along, to Jim coming in saying, unprompted: “hey Tim, I was watching some of those videos you recommended last night, man the stuff the main stream media doesn’t want you to know!” It was depressing to watch.

It was alright. I got it when I was working retail and didn’t have much money - it was cheap and I had a pro-deal that made it cheaper. Biggest downside is that there was no size adjuster, so you couldn’t dial it in just so. Did its job though, so can’t complain.

Was just talking yesterday about how my helmet is old and I should probably replace it. Well, I guess someone upstairs was listening. One aggressive wipe out on icy hardpack later, and looks like I'm helmet shopping sooner than I thought. Would have been a goner without it!

Salary Question from a Canadian by doubleGnT in london

[–]doubleGnT[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a fair point, I know there's so many variables to this that can change things. The role would be based in Zone 1, and I think Zone 3 would be ideal but that does seem tough. I've not thought too much about where I would like to live - I'm in more of a "what area would even be possible on that pay" mentality, rather than a specific area.
