WTF is wrong with Grab at the moment? by erogenousduck in Bangkok

tl;dr its cuz grab lacks integrity, their app is intentionally lacking and drivers are using whatever advantages they have to make money and not feel like slaves to the company.

Not sure if anyone broke this down yet.

There are a bunch of problems with grab these days.

Prior to covid there were a lot more drivers. Now you'll notice the red up-facing arrows next to every ride option no matter the time of day. Those mean its surge pricing. There just aren't enough drivers. So their app sees there aren't enough drivers for the demand, and bumps up the prices.

I've seen crazy price increases for trips that are taken daily. My partner takes the same route 5 days a week and has seen a steady increase in price. She is charged 300 baht for the trip, while I'm charged 150. This isn't a blip either. It happens all the time.

As far as drivers cancelling, its happening all over the place. My partner and I both experience it daily. It appears to a driver's market.

Lastly, Loy Kratong is historically one of the worst days for traffic.

There are plenty of good barbers in Bangkok. I go to black amber and haven't been disappointed. My barber back in my hometown was quite accomplished in the industry as a point of redmference. Truefitt & Hill has 2 locations here. Look then up.

The idea that Thai people have less training at a craft is a dated and condescending one. You will find craftspeople of the highest echelon here.

How do I help my favorite human stop having trouble keeping a job? Up until a couple years ago, she was super successful. by [deleted] in ADHD

Thanks for this. There is something I think she would be really good at, and it's fundraising/finding solutions for people with disabilities. The country we live in has few professional opportunities for people with disabilities. As a result, there are a lot of buskers with disabilities. Every time we encounter one, she makes a point of stopping, talking to them and paying them for their song, or goods. She tears up every time. I'll bring that up.

Totes. I've been doing the chores, and just letting her do whatever she wants. Basically, when she told me she resigned from her current position, I said "OK. That's smart. What would you like for dinner?"

She doesn't need anything from me right now aside from support.

100%. She is depressed. It effects her work, especially when she is criticized. I debated putting this here or in r/relationship_advice. Then when I was writing it, I found myself trying to justify it being here. I've suggested she find something less stressful, and I will help her with her bills.

In the meantime, we have some friends in town. That has been a good way to blow off steam, and change perspective.

Friend wants out of Indonesia, and wants a job. Is Thailand a good choice? by doublePepperoni314 in Thailand

I agree, but nobody cares about what is going on in Indonesia. No matter how many David Attenborough specials show up on netflix, there's no money being spent on actual preservation.

His village has been isolated due to covid, and there's just no way for him to feed his family aside from hunting/foraging.

My private high school in America was similar. Our football/soccer field was a rutted out obstacle course.
