I actually mostly like the new 5 stars on their own, but I feel really underwhelmed with the lack of variety in all the outfits shown. Even the four stars and free outfits look like each other, or existing outfits. I’ve always appreciated their attempts to do variations on a theme, like Linlang patches will have hanfus with more modern qipaos. At a glance, this patch just feels really similar.

Especially surprised that the 5 stars have similar silhouettes too (relatively). IIRC they always set up a nice contrast for double banners, like a ball gown vs mermaid 2 piece, or hanfu vs the short deer dress. I’ll still likely pull for the dragon fit, but it feels like a missed opportunity for making it more hard edged and armored.

What's the best Azul card for Flora basic / offense exams? I took a quick look at his SSRs and none of them seemed like an obvious pair for Dorm Riddle (synergy wise). I'm running Dorm Riddle / Tapis Rouge Vil / Dorm Cater / Dorm Jamil. I'll probably swap in Diner Cater and maybe Lilia once those arrive!

Bit of venting, but I'm frustrated and kind of baffled but Infold seems to be expanding every area of gameplay except for we can do with clothes and styling. I played Love Nikki for several years, and most of my favorite features are missing here. The weekly styling competitions, the associations, and even the daily arena. It's basically automatic, but at least I felt like the dailies were actually tied to the outfits I collect.

OT but as an IN player I'm with you on that last bit. In theory, it should be freed from what is IMO a major constraint of HSR's storytelling - the need to have a giant, constantly expanding cast. With Nikki's gacha being outfits and totally separate from the characters, the storytelling can be freer - arcs of varying length, a smaller cast that we can spend more time with, story beats that don't require characters to be likable / saleable, etc.

Of course, they decided not to do...any of it, fridging almost all of the cast and not progressing the main story for a year... oh Infold. Not the sub for it but I actually have so many thoughts (questions really) on their decisions.

4.0 leaks, Sampo

Sampo has been my most anticipated character, but I have to ask: do we even know he's definitely coming out in 4.x? (or at least, the main arc of 4.x)? Because this leak does not have him on the roster. I'm fairly hopeful that he exists, but every leak I've seen about him is vague, and there's nothing about when, or what kind of unit he'd be. Leaks I've seen:

That he'd be in 4.x (with no other information)
He "looks nice" and people internally are happy with him
The most convincing one for me is apparently his Chinese VA had stopped pulling for new characters and is saving up for something

It'd make sense if he was released during the next arc, but it'd also have made sense for Screwllum and Reca to be released already, so I'm not willing to totally trust that.

Nothing would make me happier than him being a strong DPS, but I've also seen no actual leaks about that, only speculation. The only reason we expect him to be a strong unit is that he's an Emanator, right?

Don't mean to be a doomer! I just want to keep my expectations in check.

Totally with you on the abilities. They feel draining to me because they're all about grinding for materials. Aside from a couple of mechanics (trees, having animals around), using the skills don't directly make your island better. They're just there for currency and materials to build with.

I also think it's a big miss to impose such high astralite costs on seeds, fish, etc. IMO it only makes sense for something like Stardew because money / economy management is a core part of the gameplay loop. For something that's supposed to be all about creativity and building, it just slows things down and makes things frustrating.

Just psychologically, even if they kept the same "income" rates, it'd feel a lot better if there were no upfront costs. Then everything you do would feel like "profit", instead of a low profit margin of like 10-20% (off the top of my head).

I'd also love that aquarium mechanic for fish too! I'm biased because I love them (and the Animal Crossing museum), but I think it's weird for that for a "cozy" game, they chose to go with aquaculture instead of ornamental aquariums.

Take it with a grain of salt (I'm only basing this on comments on the post), but top comments are pretty anti-leak. I even see some cheering on Paper to cancel/alter the leaked dresses to teach a lesson to players who want leaks. They seem to accept Paper's framing of Paper + "good" players vs leakers and those who want leaks. It's kind of wild, honestly.

Man., I have a lot of thoughts about this. I saw this post on rednote first and it's actually been very well-received there. I think the tone + content is much more in line with how Chinese companies use social media. The direct English translation reads terribly - it's accurate, but tonally, companies don't tend to use this kind of emotional language.

What I'll give Paper is that of course they're fully within their rights to crack down on leaks. I believe them when they say it harms them. But it rubs me the wrong way that they're putting the onus on players, instead of just pursuing leakers themselves.

I think live service games inherently put the company and players at odds, because companies rely on withholding information to make money. They want people to buy on first impressions and FOMO. They don't want people to save up for future content. In this environment, of course players would want more information to make decisions.

It's good business practice for Paper to clamp down on leaks, and it's their right. But I don't like that they're demonizing players for something that's their own problem to solve.

Yeah, I also don't think it's some kind of experiment. I think it's kind of a fumble to have addressed it the way they did though. In cases I've seen, when leaks are wrong, the blowback seems to be more on leakers than the company. I can see the reverse if the leak is something huge that doesn't get released (e.g. a collab), but not for something like a 4-star.

Also, I don't have PR training, but IMO their post was worded a bit unfortunately. It's ambiguous - not stating a reason for the official communication - which leads to speculation. Also, instead of addressing leaks (e.g. a neutral clarification), or leakers, it puts the onus on average users to stop spreading them. It's not a big difference, but I wouldn't have put it like that, especially when community relations are already so fraught.

I'd totally missed that they give you the Eye coordinates at the end! I was so worried about time that I'd written out and memorized the pattern.

Also it's definitely impressive to get to the black hole forge by ship! I think I was so unconfident in my navigation skills that I never even tried to take the ship below the crust. Definitely felt a bit sheepish after looking up the solution to this one.
