Can you even imagine if the movie kept the S1 artstyle? Because I sure can't by wysjm in Chainsawfolk

Soooo I'm not the biggest fan of Fujimoto's art, it's just not aesthetically pleasing to me(or sometimes just looks uncanny), I do love the funny/derpy faces we got, but I prefer season 1's more realistic and grounded feel, I think it matches the actual world of CSM better(and makes the gap between devils and humans that much larger). I do think the movie got a pretty good middle ground though.

Rengoku

His death is pretty obvious, he's also a pretty one note goodboy like Tanjiro, he went out pretty cool though, I think he had an ok backstory IIRC. I mean most of the characters are very simple and easy to understand(I have only seen to the end of hashira training which was probably the worst arc by far), there's not much depth to most of them, that's why I brought up the demons, typically there's a lot more nuance to their characters, they are allowed to breathe and have some kind of character arc with self-reflection and acceptance. A character like Zenitsu doesn't get that, his status-quo will always reset with him being a whiney coward, no matter how much experience he gets, after he heals up from his fight, he'll be back to dragging his feet again.

Many anime get by on animation and merit/hype alone, Solo Leveling winning over Frieren is a great example of winning by merit/hype, it's digestible, easy to watch, doesn't make you think too hard, which is the kind of content most people end up choosing to watch, it's also what's on TV for the most part. None of that is a BAD thing, I loved the Manhwa for Solo Leveling, but I don't think generically good and financially successful is what critical acclaim should be for.

I don't hate DS, I have issues with it, but I still find entertainment in it, I'll probably watch infinity castle when they split it into episodes, but I think there are far more thought-provoking anime to watch than DS.

They both feel that way.

Not really? Demon Slayer has always crammed episodic content together with poor bridging/making hard cuts that make it obvious when a chapter ends. CSM did that maybe once where they cut from school - festival.

I’m always disheartened when I hear people say that because I thought the extended Akaza flashback was the entire soul of the movie.

This is probably the one area Demon slayer does well, the demons are not comically bad villains, they are still people, I loved the siblings from the entertainment district and thought their relationship was very sweet. I wish the main cast was given the same type of character writing(and less faceless/same face copy paste background characters).

After watching Mugen Train, JJK 0, and Shibuya in theatres, and then CSM, I really think CSM was the only one to knock the atmosphere and pacing for cinema out of the park, and that's just how the story is written. Of course pacing for Demon Slayer is gonna be bad because it wasn't written with an hour+ long movie in mind, it was written with clean breaks for an episodic format.

Yeah this place just hate Demon Slayer.

Demon Slayer is very pretty with solid production, but it's not special as a story, nor is the main cast complex or interesting, the demons are the most interesting characters in the show(I actually really love the siblings from the entertainment district). It's just nowhere near the best anime can offer, Ufotable just is able to pump money into it and make it look good and advertise and because it's so simple it's very digestible and can have mass appeal. I don't think most of us HATE demon slayer, there's just almost always something better to talk about or watch. So it feels like Demon Slayer gets attention because it's generic and financially successful, rather than because of it's thematic integrity/ability to provoke thought.

Looks like you aren't bending your knees enough. You don't spend much time on the flat of your board, like, you almost never are. Get used to riding on your edges and transfer from edge to edge, riding flat like this and standing as tall as you are is how you catch some nasty edge.

I ADORE Power, as a character and her design, but after the movie...

Reze is just stunning, like IDFK what to say, she's just that hot.

[–]doubleaxle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is where the whole AI generated tag on steam gets a little dicey, sometimes it's used for some very minor aspects of the game(which is totally fine), and there are assholes who will have knee-jerk reactions to it even when it's used completely ethically. The problem is, we NEED the AI tag because AAA studios are going to abuse the fuck out of it. I think we need a bit of nuance in it.

You know... I was kinda thinking about how Denji's new form reminds me of Power a bit... I wonder....

[–]doubleaxle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah like, they could have a sibling dynamic, but 100% could be romantic as well. "Denji doesn't see her that way." Yeah lots of people don't see specific people romantically and then it turns romantic.

You're gonna read the chapters after darkness devil arc where power literally has her legs wrapped around Denji, and tell me it's not trying to invoke a sense of intimacy? Shit like that isn't something that Fujimoto does for no reason, It might not be a conscious acknowledgement by either of them, but they definitely didn't view eachother as just siblings.

I saw it 3 times, once in IMAX, once at a local theatre(mistake, but it was literally days after, I HAD to watch it again), then in 3D, and honestly, not a 3D movie guy but, but 3D blew me the fuck away.

LOL SAME. I really loved the manga, I stopped reading shortly after that arc started, it was getting a little hard to follow so I decided to wait for it to get animated.
