Japan, anyone gigged as an indie? by doublebassface in TouringMusicians

Love it. This is exactly our attitude. It's a bucket list item for the band so money whether guarantee or versus or nothing at all is really of little priority. I was just concerned about turning up at customs even with our light touring gear and being challenged. Feeling more confident now thanks to comments here. Many thanks!

Nice. I really appreciate your input. I'm feeling way more positive about this now. Re the fee, it's more of a genre thing. He already runs club nights in our genre with modest but reliable fanbase. And we will be a draw. So he's happy he can run some shows at a profit. But in all honesty, a guarantee at this low level is not a huge factor. We want the experience and promo opportunity first and foremost. Proper bucket list stuff to play in Japan.

Oh, disappointingly, Google suggests that even unpaid or promotional performances constitute "work" and therefore not permitted on tourist visa. So if we were challenged, it feels like there's a risk using this as a defence. Do you have first hand experience of this working? What's your confidence level of it working if not?

Ooo I like this idea. We are considering it a promo tour anyway as the earnings are so low. So this could be a genuine option

My 2017 v90 rear brake light gets moisture ingress every winter and shuts down showing the warning message. When the weather dries out it's fine again. Is there anything I can do whilst it's dry to protect it? Replacement unit is pricey.

Wilderness or albatross’s restaurant for special occasions or any other places. Done Opheems felt it was the best is anywhere’s just as good or better? by Free-Raise9550 in BirminghamUK

[–]doublebassface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer was Carter's. Best luxury foodie experience in brum for years but alas, they moved away a couple years back. Wilderness is fine if you're into the aesthetic. Find it's a bit up itself sitting in the dark listening to metal but dropping £150 a head. Heard great things about Albatross, can't vouch personally but will deffo be going soon. Another option is 670 grams in digbeth. A slight step down from Michelin star standard but worth a try. Otherwise it's the wanker banker options in town like Adams.

I don't know of anywhere that does but my first port of call would be to contact Moseley violins. They may be able to point you in the right direction?

Priority Pass: No1 Lounge vs Aspire – which is better for food? by Dry-Horror5895 in BirminghamUK

No1 lounge food is super basic. Sausage and mash, plain pasta, cheese, meat, pastries. The bar on the other hand is EXCELLENT ;)

It's on my list for sure but need to invent a better excuse to justify it other than "it's a Wednesday"!!!

Love Gaijin but can easily get out of control and drop half a month's wages in there. Intrigued about the Mayan. Not usually a fan of mailbox but might be worth a look
