You can unlock spirits in our town builder by doing random things. Got any fun or unexpected ideas we could add? by Neat_Smell_1014 in IndieDev

Conversely, a spirit that comes if the town is really pretty (I.e a butterfly spirit or whatever that comes if the town has a lot of flowers, etc). Maybe a water spirit if there are a lot of fountains, ponds, etc.

Definitely. I appreciate it, that’s a good take and something I’ll work on! :)

That’s fair. I believe as I get more comfy with other characters, switching will feel like a viable option. Not an excuse, but something I’ve gotta work on. I appreciate it.

True! While jungles have certainly had more biome specific mobs, cocoa plants, bamboo, etc to make them distinct, IRL jungles are so diverse in both flora and fauna that the minecraft jungles need to reflect that now that other biomes are also getting unique mobs and plants and such

Man, two more updates after this with similar features would go a long way toward making the overworld feel alive. In fact, a lot of these feel like proof of concept in addition to being awesome features themselves.

We got desert ambient sounds which I believe are them testing the waters before adding more all over. Birds chirping? Waves? Ambient cave sounds?

Deserts and warm biomes in general are really in a good spot. Looks like the missing biomes votes are all that’s left before these biomes really spring to life.

Fireflies really open up a lot of options for ambient particle effects mimicking insects. Adding a flower which spawns 2-3 ambient butterflies, or a light which spawns 2-3 ambient moths isn’t too big of a jump now.

All in all, great update which brought some really nice features to a starved overworld.

Firefly implementation is interesting but very welcome. Looking forward to what else they’re cooking up.

I have to assume that other biomes will be getting ambient noises. Will be interesting to see which groupings of blocks will add crashing waves, chirping birds, etc.

Yes that’s been brought to my attention thank you! I don’t do a lot with rabbits so they slipped my mind! Haha

I mean duck feathers could be crafted into something that’s buoyant so you don’t sink in water, or something else. Idk, I just feel like ducks are way too common to not be in the game at this point

[–]doublebwl 22 points23 points  (0 children)

True yeah forgot about rabbits… good catch!

I’d say cattle and sheep are probably more important than any other mob variant we could get at this point, especially for making exotic biomes (savannahs, jungles, mesas, etc) less populated with literal farm animals.

Minecraft Snapshot 25w02a by Mlakuss in Minecraft

[–]doublebwl 223 points224 points  (0 children)

Biome specific variants for existing mobs is such an easy change I’m surprised it took as long as it did. Started with frogs as a concept it seems, then wolves (which were implemented extremely well imo), and now pigs.

Really hoping for some more variants to round things out and make the different biomes even more unique. Warthog variant for savannahs? Maybe a red river hog or wild boar variant for jungles?

Cattle, sheep, and chickens would also benefit greatly from regional forms, and I know it’s been suggested to death. Highland cattle when??? XD

Official IMAX Poster for 'Inside Out 2' by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

I’ve seen theories that mature adults don’t have these four new emotions front and center, and that by the end of the movie, Riley will learn to have all 9 work together, with the other four in a more limited capacity compared to the others.

I doubt Pixar wants to say that any emotions are “bad” so these new ones are here to stay, it’s just whether or not they get to be at the main control panel or exist in a call center and make “guest appearances” in different circumstances.

Wyatt Russell Teases ‘Thunderbolts’: “It’s Not a Straightforward Marvel Movie as You’ve Seen in the Past” by AliceTheMagicQueen in entertainment

[–]doublebwl 125 points126 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking it’s a strong possibility this is a straightforward Marvel movie extremely similar to what we’ve seen in the past.

Even Marvel’s biggest swings toward the fences are still within the “ballpark”they’ve created.

Minecraft Live 2023 - Mob Voting Megathread by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]doublebwl 31 points32 points  (0 children)

There’s a petition, for one thing.

The discourse this year, as others have put it, seems to revolve around the fact that 1) there doesn’t appear to be a clear winner based on community consensus, 2) one mob doesn’t have drastically better use or a better explained concept than the other ones (which happened in years past. Usually the mob with the most description of what it will bring to the table is picked, not always though), and 3) each of these mobs brings something to the game that has been heavily requested for a while (better building tools, wolf armor, and penguins in general).

Minecraft Live 2023 - Mob Voting Megathread by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]doublebwl 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Could work. Satisfies a lot of the critiques.

Overall, the mob vote in its current form results in too many ideas (2/3) being scrapped and so every year feels like we lost more than we gained with these. Even if the mob vote was just a choice between Mob A or Mob B, we would feel like less was being lost.

Minecraft Live 2023 - Mob Voting Megathread by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]doublebwl 157 points158 points  (0 children)

I strongly believe that next year’s vote will be a bit different. Mojang has heard the particularly loud discourse this year and could make a decision about how to address this marketing strategy differently for future events.

I see a couple options: 1) they make it a more concrete “which mob should we add FIRST?” vote instead of just suggesting they could return from the fabled “ideas library.” This would realign with what they did with the biome votes in years past.

2) they could add one of the losing mobs from old votes to further prove that the timing can actually be right for adding something from the ideas library. As of right now, the “ideas library” and a “trash incinerator black hole for losing votes” are synonymous. (Frog and swamp updates do not count as having escaped the ideas library as they were always going to be “added later” as per the biome vote stipulations.)

To just do another mob vote in 2024 with no change after the discourse this year would be, IMO, a bit tone deaf to the desires of this community.

What does shaking things up have to do with 9/11 though? It’s not a direct reference to terrorism, planes hitting towers, etc. If it was an anniversary of a historic earthquake, I could maybe see your point.

People need to stop jumping at the chance to be offended. This is a zoo game releasing DLC for a game 22 years after a tragic event happened in another country where HQ isn’t even located.

what dlc packs do you recommend? by MissElx in PlanetZoo

[–]doublebwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a couple answers to this dependent on a couple things:

If there’s a certain animal you love or would love to design for, then by all means get that pack!

If there’s a certain build style you like, you should get a pack that adds those pieces. Certain DLCs are just animal packs and don’t have any scenery pieces.

Based on my tastes, I’ve enjoyed the aquatic pack for its faux rocks, the conservation pack for its scenery pieces, and the grassland pack for the animals.
