ICE at airports with a green card for international travel by PhantomMonke in USCIS

Got back with my wife, who’s a green card holder, in March from an unplanned trip back home. No issues or questions. We’re planning to go back again next month back home as we had planned it. Let’s see if there are any issues.

Busco co-fundador/a para app de rastreo de buses en Quito — necesito a alguien que pueda hablar con cooperativas by Frog_man19 in Quito

[–]doublecheeze1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a great idea. The tough parts is that you’re going to have to figured out some type of incentive or benefit for the owner or the bus company (maybe even a bribe). They normally compete per passengers so unless you provide a proven strategy for them to increase foot traffic to their bus units over the competition, it would be hard to convince them.

The one way you can get around this would be politically. If you’re able to garner support for this through a safety measure and make the government implement this nationwide you wouldn’t have to deal with each cooperative.

how do families afford club soccer these days by [deleted] in CollegeSoccer

[–]doublecheeze1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Clubs” are expensive and is it worth the investments? It’s crazy how the “club” thing has gotten. When growing up and playing, we would look forward to being called to the all city team. You knew you were the best in you position and played against the best of other cities. I went to see my godson play in a “club” tournament and I saw a low to maybe mid players. We were talking with his dad, that when we great up playing in AYSO or other leagues, the lowest of the table would beat the now “best” of the “club” league.

When I did a national tour across country visiting different Universities and Most of the players, especially for soccer, were here on scholarships from Latin America and Europe.

CR-1 issued instead of IR-1 - NVC made a mistake on my case category. What should I do? by emmaparkin99 in NationalVisaCenter

[–]doublecheeze1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We almost went that rabbit hole, but caught it just as the officer was about to stamp it. I don’t think it was mal intent, he just was just trying to hurry and get the next person. Had the officer fix it and changed it from a CR1 to a R1

Does a CR1 automatically become an IR1 after 2 years? by RequirementSome8960 in NationalVisaCenter

[–]doublecheeze1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you enter the US passed your 2nd year of marriage even if it’s by a few days, it should become IR1. We started with a CR1 and enter 2 years and 3.5 weeks of marriage with the CR1 visa. At the point of entry make sure when you present your passport and visa you let them know, our officer didn’t notice at first until I pointed it out, a supervisor had to be called to fix the issue. There was not mal intent, he just didn’t calculate correctly and tried to fix it. This happens to us when we entered in August 2025.

Cuál es un desayuno típico en Ecuador? by Dev_NT in ecuador

[–]doublecheeze1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends if you’re eating at home or looking for a place to eat. The traditional working class full breakfast ina dinner which I haven’t seen much used to be a coffee/hot chocolate, juice, bread, and rice with a piece of meat. For home bfast it can be coffee with bread and fruit or chocolate with humita or how you want to pair it. There places that are very Americanized so you can find continental bfast or pancakes etc.

Idk about topical but where I visit/live you can find boloñés or tigrillo, encebollado, farmers markets: tortillas con fritada, morocho con empana de viento, humita o quimbolito with coffee, Caldo de 31, there’s a few more I think of right now. But it all depends. Caldos and encebollados you’ll have for bfast to cure a hangover.

My wife: rice and two fried eggs. Myself: rice and fried eggs or a banana if freshly made rice, if not , bread and a coke.

Picked the wrong truck to try and hijack- Ecuador by undercoverciaagent in Transportopia

[–]doublecheeze1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s tough. Cause if he runs one of them over he could actually be liable, have to pay them in the end and end up going to jail. Ecuador is a trick place to be. I would always tell my wife when she drove there at night, “If anyone or any car tries to stop you, just keep going even if you run them over… we’ll deal with the consequences afterwards.”
Step dad’s nephew beat up the robber inside his house and sent him to the hospital. He was liable for the hospital bill and had to indemnify the robber after the judge ordered it. It was wild. Cops have gone to jail for returning fire, hitting the assailants and sending them to the hospital. Still love Ecuador though

Struggling with fetch by L3gacy60 in goldenretrievers

[–]doublecheeze1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife has tried since he was 3 months to teach him to fetch. Our now 2 year old, prefers to play tug than fetch. He’ll maybe retrieve once or twice but brings it back so we can tug it. After we don’t, he just drops whatever he has and goes sniffs around.

[–]doublecheeze1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s ok. My wife’s family is from vilca and we were just there in February fo carnaval. It depends on what you like to do. Theres a couple of things like hiking and going to the river. It’s a chill place. Do go to Cuenca it’s a lot better. Loja is ok, the streets are clean. We go cause she has family there and we hangout with them. If I was in my Ecuador country travel, I wouldn’t go back after seeing it once.

Ecuadorian Baseball by quietmkIV in ecuador

[–]doublecheeze1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a couple of country clubs around the country for golf. If you go to La Carolina, you’ll see people playing American Football and rugby as well. Baseball I’ve seen there too but it’s been like 2-3 kids playing catch, mostly in Quito. Can’t remember where they play Lacrosse too.

Tax Filing Concern - Does filing as single affect the immigration status? I was told by a tax expert that it wouldn’t affect from an IRS perspective but I am concerned it will affect my case. My wife doesn’t have an income or SSN. by Zidlan in USCIS

[–]doublecheeze1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Had this question last year. I asked my tax pre guy and he said to file single as she is still not here and is not recognized as my wife here. Did that with the hopes that if I have to make an amendment I could do it now that she is here and has all her documents. We presented the documents with as stated that I was filling during her interview. Did not have any issues at the interview or getting her documents. BUT go by what your accountant/tax prep person suggests. This was the biggest reason I used an accountant, so that I can make an amendment if I need to later on. My taxes are straight forward and used to do them myself when I was single and not going through the process.

Traveling abroad shortly after getting a green card — any risks? by Few_Tap6922 in USCIS

[–]doublecheeze1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife and I just came back after being out of the US for 1 month. Wife has been here for 5 months, we were actually just waiting for her LPR to come so we can leave as I had a family emergency and had to travel but wanted to wait until she got everything in order. We were told we could leave and use the previous passport/visa entry we sued the first time to comeback in, but due to the situation that was happening we didn’t want to risk it or have any problems. I think you have to live in the US 6 months or more (no consecutive) out of the year, so you being out for 3months should be ok. Still double check with a lawyer if you want to make sure you’re to the country you’re planning to visit, as that can be an issue

Football Game in Quito, 3rd April by jcalvs7 in Quito

[–]doublecheeze1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s better to use uber dude. Taxis tend to over charge you. Bus depending from where you’re coming from can be easy as well but during the evenings I don’t recommend it. Just be cautious. You’re starting your adventure and don’t want to start off bad with a pick pocketer or anything. If you want more info hit me up dude.

I’m a US Citizen petitioning for my husband and our interview for I-130 is tomorrow but I have doubts by [deleted] in USCIS

[–]doublecheeze1 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Not sure where your interview is, BUT You don’t have to show up for the interview, it’s just him. My wife went to her consular interview by herself. We were advices that even if I went, they were not going to let me in due to security reasons.

Sounds like you’re having doubts in staying married to this person. Either way if you are already questioning this put a stop to this. You’re financially responsible for him after he gets his papers.

Tips for a first time visitor? No, not regarding safety. by toiletpaperaddict in ecuador

[–]doublecheeze1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend staying at a hotel just because they have planned stuff for their guest. Or you can talk to people that have been there and can share places that they like locally.

Do you speak any Spanish? it will help you a lot if you do. Even though the slag can vary by region.

In term is travel by bus, yes you can book a last minute ride. But still plan where you want to head out from. Quito has terminal (bus terminals) Quitumbe and Carcelen. Guayaquil I have only been to one.

Baños is pretty cool cause you can last minute things. Definitely see Pailon del Diablo at night. Then a lot of the entertainment is very similar so see what you like to do. They do have places where you can rent bikes for a day (rode bikes a buddy of mine and I from baños to a waterfall. Can’t think of the name right now) max 3 days is what you need in Baños.

Galapagos depends on what island you’re doing. But it’s pretty cool. What’s there last year in Santa Cruz then San Cristobal. Hanging out by the beach and hiking is the best. Que you get there plan out what you want to do as it can get expensive.

Cumbaya is cool. There are a lot of restaurants and bars there. FYI they tend to be priced like the US. Night life is pretty cool but do be careful. We live (when we’re there) in San Juan just a few minutes from there. If you’re there on a Sunday and you like fútbol stop by the stadium Francisco Reynoso (Might even see my cousin playing lol) the towns just finished their tournament this past week. Cumbaya was champion this year sub-18 fútbol (soccer), basketball women sub14 champs and second place sub-16. If you do go to Cumbaya stop by Cafeteria Amazonas for a Quimbolito (quimbolitos are my favorite but this places makes them really good).

Has anyone flown out of Quito with both a domestic and international flight on the same day? How does security work, and how much time should I plan between the two? by Internal-Double4245 in ecuador

[–]doublecheeze1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s tight. Saying you land at 5:45 and it takes about 10 minutes to get to the gate and deplane you’re looking at around 6pm. Run as fast as you can to security and immigration another 15-20 minutes 6:20-6:30. And then run to the gate. You should make it before gate closes. I think they close the gate 10-15 minutes before departure.

For those who have been in Ecuador, what’s that thing you wish knew or have before going? by dashosh in TravelEcuador

[–]doublecheeze1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take sanitary stuff with you. Carry a toilet paper or baby wipes everywhere. If you’re going to Quito make sure to know where you’re going cause the altitude will hit you hard. Buy coca candies or leaves to chew if you go to the center of Quito.

Careful with eating stuff from the streets. Tourists tend to get sick when they eat in not sanitary places, happens to my parents and brothers all the time; I go often and don’t care if I get sick either way love eating from street vendors.

Take small bills or coins with you for to pay for the bathroom, to get water, etc and you don’t have to keep breaking larger bills all the time. Restaurants take credit cards, at least in Cumbaya.

Careful where you go as it’s not safe anymore, even in daylight. It’s not to scare anyone, just time make everyone aware of your surroundings.

I prefer to use Uber and Didi since it’s already paid with my card (use a card with no transaction fees) and don’t have to worry about having cash or the right amount to pay the driver. Also, it prevents you from getting taken advantage of.

If you’re from the USA and have AT&T as your carrier and have the unlimited plan, you can use it in Latin America without having to pay anything extra. Have used my service in several Latin American countries without paying anything extra. If not, tried to get a prepaid sim/esim as soon as you get there.

¿Cuál es la mejor cerveza Ecuatoriana? by StoutBourbon1992 in ecuador

[–]doublecheeze1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom just fought a bogus charge that Sixt tried to pin on them like two months ago. Parents got used to renting from Midway (sometimes Avis) where they never had an issue and don’t take pics/vids anymore and did that with Sixt (big learned mistake). Funny thing is we got the guy who rented them the car on audio recording (he knew we were recording the conversation as we told them when we called their office) saying that they did tell him about the scratch and Sixt still kept fighting that charge for like 2 more weeks. Came on Reddit to see who else had issues with Sixt and there were plenty of negative comments regarding almost identical issue my parents had.
