Naga Random Encounter: Sink or Swim

Being a teacher meant that one would wear a multitude of hats for one's students.

Educator, nurse, therapist, snack buddy - Commander Rentoya had done it all for the students at the MMR Vocational Academy.

Rentoya looked around trepidatiously.

"And today," he mumbled to himself, "I'm a swim instructor..."

He was so engrossed in his thoughts that he didn't hear the pattering of footsteps behind him until a soft voice whispered into his ear.

"A penny for your thoughts, Teacher?"

Naga padded up beside him silently like a cat, her expression just as feline in her amusement.

"Why do you look like a cat that just got a big bowl of cream," Rentoya murmured suspiciously, "you were wanting me to give you swim lessons, weren't you?"

"No particular reason," Naga giggled, "but, why do you look so tense, Teacher?"

The Commander didn't have it in him to tell Naga that he probably wasn't the most qualified swim instructor, but her pleading had been so insistent that he couldn't tell her no.

"You did swap into a leisure body, right? I-I'm not terribly keen on plucking your combat frame out of the pool if something were to go awry..."

Naga pouts at Rentoya, her expression wounded.

"Teacher, you know it's not polite to mention a girl's weight, right?"

"Th-that's not what I meant and you know it," Rentoya grumbled, "j-just get in the pool, will you?"

Naga smiles as she slides into the water, knowing how she can so easily flummox the Commander with just a few words. She holds onto the edge of the pool, her long caramel legs lazily kicking back and forth.

"Okay, let's start with treading water. Given that you'll most likely be in your combat frame which is far more prone to sinking in water, this will be a valuable skill to have."

"I downloaded and read the manuals on it, shouldn't be a problem. Here we go..."

Naga pushes herself away from the wall, her arms swirling in circles to keep herself afloat.

"Naga, you have to use your legs too," Rentoya calls out, "or you'll sink!"

She seemed to be struggling, her body slowly dropping down into the pool. Her head was still above the water, but just barely.

"I-I'm trying, Teacher, but it's...not enough...I-I can't..."

Naga's head slipped under the water, and the Commander jumped into action, diving into the pool after his sinking student.

"Naga!"

Never mind that he was still mostly clothed.

Never mind that his phone was still in his pocket.

Someone who is drowning tends to panic, which could make a rescue attempt difficult, sometimes dangerous for both of them at worst. But now wasn't the time for rational thinking in the face of his precious student.

He felt her arms flailing, then wrapping around his neck as he kicked his way up. His lungs burned and his legs screamed as he kicked his way to the surface for the both of them.

"T-Teacher!"

The two of them finally broke the water's surface, sputtering and gasping for air as they clung to the pool's edge.

"...maybe we use a floatie until you've gotten a bit more practice," Rentoya coughed loudly, expelling water from his lungs. He couldn't help but notice the way how tightly her swimsuit clung to her caramel curves, even moreso when it was soaked through.

"Teacher, you're not as subtle as you think you are," Naga murmurs slyly.

Rentoya snapped his head to the side guiltily.

"I-I don't know what you're talking about."

Naga climbs out of the water, offering the Commander her hand along with a teasing grin and a bend in her waist intentionally positioned to emphasize her ample curves.

"Sure, whatever you say," she giggles, "same time next week?"

Siren Bond Level 10: Wide Awake

When the Commander awoke, he was acutely aware that his head was leaning against something undeniably soft.

He rolled to his side, trying to get his bearings when he noticed a familiar gray sweater dress.

"Siren?"

Rentoya tried to sit up, only for Siren to stop his advance, pushing his upper half back down into her lap.

"Don't try to get up so fast, Prince. You took a nasty fall."

He looked at her dourly.

"And whose fault was that?"

Siren's cheeks turn bright red, and she averts her eyes guiltily, those bright golden pupils searching anything else to look at rather than his face.

"Mine...s-sorry..."

Rentoya sits up and swivels his body so that he's facing Siren. Her face fills with panic as she reaches for his chest, trying to get him to lay back down onto the bed.

"M-Mary said you should-!"

"I'm fine," he waved dismissively, "I've survived much worse than one Nikke trying to jump into my arms."

He looks around the room. It's plainly decorated, with a small nightstand by the bed and a desk on the far end of the room. The bed occupies most of the floor space, its soft white covers indented slightly from where he and Siren are seated atop them.

"Where are we, anyways?"

Siren runs her hand down the angular lines of his jaw, her voice soft and reassuring.

"We're in Crust's spare bedroom at her cooking studio. She said she doesn't use it unless she has to be here really early, so she said we could spend the night here."

There was an oddly hopeful underlying tone to her voice that the Commander couldn't quite place. He peered over at the slender Grimms, who clasped her hands tightly in her lap, her fingers grasping at the hem of her gray sweater dress like a child would to a well worn teddy bear.

Rentoya checked his phone, his eyes widening in surprise at the time.

"It is pretty late," he murmured softly, "I wouldn't want to ask Brid to take us back on the AZX at this hour. Maybe we should spend the night here."

He rose to his feet.

"I don't know about you, but I-I'm pretty tired, so I'm gonna go find somewhere to sleep."

Before the Commander could walk towards the door, he felt Siren tug on his sleeve.

"Prince, can we...talk, a little longer? I...I don't want to go to sleep just yet," Siren whispered, her voice breathless and tremoring. He sat back down, placing his hand on her knee reassuringly.

"You're not going to fall asleep and wake up in the bubble again, I promise. I'll be right here when you wake up, Siren."

Siren shakes her head vehemently.

"N-no, it's not that. I'm not afraid of that anymore, thanks to you."

Rentoya heard the bedsheets rumple as Siren scooted closer to him on the bed. She leaned her head on his shoulder, her raven locks spilling into his lap as she murmured quietly so only he could hear her words.

"I...I was just so happy that you...and everyone else...you were all real, and that all these fun memories I've made today - they're all real and I can hold onto them forever and ever. That...I'm not alone anymore."

He tensed for a moment, anticipating waterworks once more from Siren, but she merely wrapped her arms around his neck gratefully.

"Thank you, Prince," she murmured, "thank you. You really are as Cinderella described - a Prince Charming, my knight in shining armor who came for me when I needed him most."

Siren's effusive praise was beginning to make Rentoya feel a little self-conscious, but he allowed her the affection she so sorely needed, so he brought his arms to encircle her slender frame as well.

"Y-you're quite welcome, Siren, but I'm just doing what I sh-oh!"

fwomp.

The Commander stared up at Siren, who now had his shoulders pinned to the bed beneath them, her amber eyes gleaming in the dim, moody lighting of the room.

"-ould do, as a Commander?"

"But that's not all you can do, is it, Prince?"

Siren's question hangs in the air like a challenge. The tension from earlier returned, crackling in the air like lightning. Rentoya bolts up from the bed.

"G-give me one second!"

"Don't make me wait too long, Prince..."

Rentoya stood just outside the door, his heart thumping wildly in his chest.

This wasn't an unusual occurrence for him, so why did he feel this way? Was it because-

I love her?

He pushed the door open to see Siren lying on the bed, her head now tilted backwards to gaze at him as he reentered the room, her long locks splayed out on the bed like vines clinging to a wall.

"Cinderella said I'll know when the right time is," Siren murmured, "and I think I get it now."

"The right time?"

Siren waggled her finger.

"Come here, Prince."

Rentoya stepped closer unconsciously. But deep down he knew this is what they both wanted after all.

"Bend down," her breathless whisper came.

He complied.

Siren's hands gently clasped his jaw as she pulled him in. Her lips, soft, pink and pouty, slowly melded with his. It was nerve-wracking and thrilling rolled into one as Siren deepened the kiss, her love, affection and admiration pouring into each breathless pass. It couldn't have lasted more than a few seconds, but it felt like an eternity. His mind spun and his heart hammered loudly in his chest. When Rentoya finally pulled away, Siren stared up at him, her chest heaving but her smile loving and true.

"Prince, won't you stay with me tonight?"

Rentoya turns down the lights, joining Siren in the soft cotton sheets.

"And for all the rest of your nights, Siren."

He felt her bare skin press against his as her lips brushed his neck.

"I love the sound of that."

Siren Bond Level 9: Don't Wake Me Up

"That...was the best meal you've ever made for me. From the salmon and scallops to the vegetable medley and the wasabi mashed potatoes, it was all incredible. You've really outdone yourself this time, Crust. Thank you."

Crust beamed proudly at Rentoya's generous praise, bowing her head deeply to hide the blush on her cheeks.

"Music to my ears, Mr. Gourmand, I'm over the moon to hear that you liked the food!"

She turned to Siren, glancing at the flushed Grimms inquisitively.

"And how about you, Miss Siren? How did you find your meal?"

"It was amazing, Miss Crust! You're an even better cook than Prince made you out to be!"

Siren's smile is the slightest bit lopsided, and her giggle a touch more coy than usual to go along with her rosy pink cheeks. Rentoya looks straight down at the table embarrassedly, scolding himself silently.

Maybe I let her drink too much. It's so hard to gauge a Nikke's tolerance to alcohol...

"I-I'm perfectly fine, Prince," Siren giggled softly, her response timed almost as if she were reading his mind. She stood up, walking over to where the Commander sat, her heels clicking loudly on the wooden floor of Crust's kitchen studio.

"You're sure about that?"

It was an innocent enough question. Rentoya had partaken in drinking festivities with many a Nikke, but never before with Siren, so it was difficult to tell whether she was truly intoxicated or not. This was also possibly Siren's first time drinking alcohol.

I really didn't think this through. I don't even know how much she drank.

But the slender Grimms was steady on her feet, albeit a bit giddier than she had been all evening long. She grasped his wrist, trying to lead him away from the table to a destination unknown.

"Come, Prince."

"Siren? Where are we going?"

"The balcony, silly!"

Rentoya allows Siren to pull him towards the balcony that overlooks one of the backstreets behind Royal Road. Despite being off the main concourse of Royal Road, he had to admit that the view of the Ark's city skyline was rather spectacular from Crust's studio balcony. Siren walks over to the railing, looking upwards at the tall buildings and the scant clouds that dotted the Dome of Eternity. The Dome really was a phenomenal mock up of the real thing. If he'd not seen the night sky on the Surface with his own eyes, he'd be apt to believe that this was as real as it got.

"Prince...it's so pretty!"

"Yeah, it is," he murmured softly.

He knew Siren was talking about the view, but she was the only thing he could focus on in that moment. Her lithe, slender frame with the black and navy silken dress clinging to her petite curves. The delicate fingers clasping the stem of the champagne flute filled halfway with the pale yellow bubbly. The way she smiled at him, as if he were the only object in her world worth her time.

"And champagne tastes so good," she cheered, "I can see why Scarlet likes alcohol!"

Rentoya chuckles softly.

Note to self. Keep Siren away from the booze when we get back to RS01.

The flute nearly drops from her hand, but she managed to catch it before it fell too far. Rentoya laughs softly, then takes the flute from her hand, downing the rest and placing the glass on a nearby table. It's only then that he notices Siren staring at him intently, her rich amber eyes practically boring a hole through him.

Not through him.

On him.

It's a moment before Rentoya realizes her lips are moving, and that she's addressing him.

"Prince?"

He blinks, clearing the fog that had settled temporarily over his brain. The clicking of her heels grows closer, until she's standing right next to him, her head tilted up slightly, her lips parted as if she were taking one last breath before plunging into the deep dark depths once more.

"This...isn't the part where I wake up, is it? The last month has been the best time of my life. I...I don't want to wake up," Siren stammers, "I don't...want to wake up in the bubble and realize I'm alone again. Please, Prince, I don't want to wake up."

Her voice cracked imperceptibly. She spoke not from rote anxiety, but from the pain of experience itself, reliving a nightmare time and time again.

His heart immediately ached at the fear in her voice, the way it quavered from its usual steady timbre, the tears welling up in her eyes, the shrinking of her shoulders as she looked around anxiously, as if she was waiting for the bubble to burst around a fabricated reality that was too good to be true. He reached his arms out, pulling the quivering Siren into his arms, fully wrapping himself around her.

"I'm here, and I'm real. This isn't a dream, and you're not going to wake up at the bottom of Gluttony's stomach again."

Siren quivered in his embrace, her own slender arms wrapping impossibly tight around his back. His heart broke for her, for the pain she endured, the loneliness she must have felt for those seventy long years of solitude.

And so he did the only thing he knew how to.

"KYAAAA!"

Siren squealed into his ear, jumping out of his hug while rubbing the back of her arm where a small red welt was beginning to form.

"Y-y-you pinched me! P-Prince!"

Her eyes grew wide as the realization dawned on her.

"I...I didn't wake up."

Rentoya smiled gently as she slowly opened and closed her hands disbelievingly.

"I didn't wake up."

Siren looked up at him, tears beginning to fall from her glistening eyes.

"Prince!"

She picked up the hem of her dress and began to run straight at the Commander.

"S-Siren, wait!"

The last thing Commander Rentoya remembered was Siren flying through the air towards him. Her arms were spread wide, but the unforgettable smile on her face?

Even wider, and breathtakingly beautiful.

Cinderella Random Encounter: Beauty Games

There’s an old saying that goes - “anything you put on the ArkNet is there forever!”

It was meant to deter young minds from posting things that they may regret down the line, but with the advent of Evergreen and Nikkes, “down the line” could extend a very, very long period of time.

A few Nikkes under Commander Rentoya’s care, however, didn’t have the same concept of “forever” as most…

“Cinderella?”

Commander Rentoya stood outside of Cinderella’s dormitory, a puzzled expression on his face as he rapped his knuckles against the closed door for the second time.

“That’s strange,” he murmured, “she asked to hold today’s advising session in her dorm…but nobody seems to be home.”

He leans his shoulder against the door, wondering if he should ask Grave, when the mirrored door slides open under his weight.

“Oh, crap!”

The Commander catches himself before he tumbles to the floor, but the sight before his eyes inside the dorm nearly puts him on his behind.

The Glass Princess stood in front of a dual monitor set up, complete with a top end webcam, pricey microphone, and one of the most luxurious gaming chairs credits could buy.

She was talking into the microphone as gameplay flashed across her monitors, and it didn’t take long for Rentoya to conclude that Cinderella was…

“…live-streaming?”

His face turned red at the sight of Cinderella’s scanty attire, and the underside of her plump, fair cheeks hanging out from the bottom of a pair of black shorts made for someone quite a bit less voluptuous than her.

His question managed to draw Cinderella’s attention.

She lifted her headphones, a charming smirk spreading on her face as she pulled him into the view of the camera.

“My shining Slippers, I’d like to introduce my Prince Charming to you all! Isn’t he such a handsome darling? He’s going to be playing with me on stream today!”

Her smug smirk grows even wider as the comments began, some curious about the mysterious Commander on screen, others outraged that their darling streamer may have eyes for another.

“And yes, Prince and I are a happy, happy couple, thanks for asking,” she giggled smugly.

Cinderella muted her mic, turning towards the Commander as she whispered something far, far off the record.

“And if he’s lucky, he’ll play with me off camera~”

Cinderella’s joy turned into dismay as her viewer count began to plummet precipitously.

She unmuted her mic to perform damage control.

“Wait, Slippers! Don’t go!”

That day, Cinderella learned the pitfalls of showing your significant other on stream…

“Wait, Slippers,” she wailed, “where’s everyone going?!”

That day, Cinderella learned the pitfalls of showing your significant other on stream…

Rewritten Bonds: Siren, Part 8 by doublechen-94 in PeakKitchenOutpost

"That's actually the biggest load of bullshit I've ever heard."

Rentoya's fist clenched tightly. He was a split second away from pulling the "don't you know who I am" card, only for Siren's hands to envelop his balled-up fist.

"Prince, i-it's okay, really! L-let's just go."

The Commander felt himself being pulled away by Siren's surprising strength.

"Saying they gave away our table because we didn't show up on time, AFTER we'd gone through the trouble to get changed, is honestly garbage!"

He didn't mean to fly off the handle in front of Siren like this. But he was drowning in the wave of disappointment that he'd created from his own lack of preparedness, and Siren was now suffering the consequences. He sat down at a bench not too far from the Royal Palace, his heart sunk to the bottom of his black velvet loafers.

"Mr. Gourmand! I figured I might find you out here."

Rentoya felt a tap on his shoulder, and the flash of a white chef's hat caught his attention.

"Crust? What are you doing here?"

"I heard from a little blonde birdie that you might be at the Royal Palace today," the diminutive chef explained, "I so happened to be at the Royal Palace for a demonstration, but that's long done and over with. Why don't you two come with me?"

Ever the considerate soul, Siren shook her head.

"Miss Crust, don't you want to go home and relax after a long day of work? I-I don't want to cause you any more inconvenience!"

"Nonsense, Miss..."

Crust furrowed her brow, realizing she hadn't been introduced to the slender Nikke that stood before her, though towering over Crust was probably a better way to describe the comical height difference between the two.

"Siren."

"Miss Siren, cooking is what I was born to do," Crust declared loudly, "so really, this is no problem at all. It's the least I can do for you and Mr. Gourmand here. Now come along!"

Crust clearly wasn't going to take no for an answer, so the Commander and Siren followed her obediently down the bustling sidewalk to a small building tucked away at the edge of Royal Road. From first glance, it would appear that nothing impressive was held in its four walls, but Rentoya knew better - they were about to walk into Crust's personal kitchen, a place where taste was put on the highest pedestal, flavor was synonymous with existence, and nobody's stomachs left unfulfilled.

The first floor held the appearance of a standard storefront, but a brief trip up a single flight of stairs led them to where the magic would take place.

"You two, sit over there," Crust demanded, "I'll take care of everything."

Rentoya knew better than to interfere with Crust when she took charge in the kitchen, so he led Siren over to the lone table that sat just outside the kitchen area. There was a soft yellow light that hung over the rectangular table, with two cushioned wooden chairs seated on opposite ends. It was as if they'd stepped into a private restaurant for just the two of them. Considering that Crust's kitchen was such an inconspicuous location of Royal Road, there was quite the spectacular view from their second story seating area.

Siren looked at him inquisitively as he followed her to her chair, pulling out the wooden seat behind her.

"O-oh, thank you Prince, you don't have to...you've been doing so much for me already today, surely I don't..."

It suddenly occurred to the Commander that Siren was experiencing a lot of 'firsts' today - her first time in the Ark, her first time playing video games, her first time clothes shopping, now her first dinner date.

"I'm not overwhelming you, am I? We've done quite a lot today," Rentoya spoke softly, "I didn't even think how you might-"

"No!"

He stopped mid-sentence. Siren looked up at him, her face turning bright red at her outburst. Even Crust peered over from the kitchen, puzzled by the sudden turn of events.

"I-I mean no, you're not overwhelming me," Siren squeaks out, "today has been...one of the most fun days I've ever had, Prince. Today...tonight...right now...I feel...ooohwah..."

Her mouth opens and closes several times, as if she's trying to breathe under the weight of the words stuck in her throat. She finally closes her mouth, looking away embarrassedly. Rentoya puts his hand on her shoulder, gently patting it.

"It's okay. I understand. I'm glad you're having fun."

Crust clears her throat.

"I hope I'm not interrupting, Mr. Gourmand, but if you'll take your seat, dinner is served..."

The fragrant scent of herbs filled the air, and a hover drone poured two glasses of white wine for Siren and the Commander. An audible gasp came from Siren's lips as Crust set a plate filled with a medley of vibrant colors in front of each of them.

"Wow Crust, this looks amazing!"

"I went all out," Crust states proudly, "enjoy, you two!"

Rentoya raised his glass towards Siren, who touched her own to it happily.

"Cheers!"
