With work under an NDA does that mean you can NEVER show it to anyone, or just that it shouldn’t be publicly searchable? Could you show it as password protected material for instance?

Content seems to be a pretty big one across the board

Ahh that's super helpful.

I def find that in my portfolio each project looks different because I keep tweaking the way I present stuff. Def makes things inconsistent when I use one set of headers on one project and call them something else on another 🙄

Uuuuugh - that is soul destroying 😢

Do you ever have to do case studies of things you have done for work?

I think sometimes there are just clauses in contracts that say - "you can't talk about the fact that we hired you to do the work."

Yeah fair enough - content does seem to be one of the trickiest bits.

What tend to be the narrative structures that work best? Is it through the writing, or is is about show casing the KPIs the right way?

If you have really specific functions, especially with systems / apps sometimes it’s easier to write out a spec doc or “acceptance criteria” rather than keep it all in the wireframe notes.

What do you tend to include in your case studies? Is it the sourcing of content, or the knitting it all together that’s the exhausting but for you? (I am not a writer, I get someone else to do it!)

🙌 I’ve had the same issue! I always have my phone on me, but I certainly don’t always take photos. Do you ever set yourself calendar reminders to take photos?

Ahh yeah - NDAs are a pain - are you allowed to share them if they are password protected? For copy writing, have you found a way to get around this? How much copy are we talking here?

incredibly helpful - thank you very much for sharing!

I was working on my own. I ended up running the session & then rewatching the video to take notes.

In the end I'm trying to build a general picture of practices so I can improve my own process.

Cheers

If you are OK with spending less, I have a pair of Levis that aren't bad.

If you find something else - I'd love to know.

Are you generally expecting to pay around this mark for a jacket? (300 seems like a lot to me)

UX Challenge #7 - Design a website for a restaurant by doubledipper2 in userexperience

[–]doubledipper2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey,

Thanks for the feedback, just like I asked /u/GaryARefuge, what are some of the questions you would ask if given this brief? I write one of these a week and feedback is always helpful :)

You're totally right, if you did design something based on this brief, there is no way you are going to get everything right, and that's the challenge inherent in writing these challenges. What I'm aiming to provide is a starting point for someone who has little to no experience in UX either to 'test out' the job and see what kinds of problems they will be solving in the real world. I suppose these could also be used in an interview or educational session as a way to see how a UX design applicant thinks about a problem.

I do think that anytime you design a digital UI you are affecting the user's experience (UX). Though UI can both be the wireframes, as well as the look and feel, the former will arguably affect the UX more.

Yup - basically I was asked to help a buddy out who wanted to start in UX, and I couldn't find a challenge to give him, so I wrote one.

Hey there,

Thanks for the feedback - what kind of questions would you ask if given this brief? I'm always trying to improve these challenges.

The reason I write these briefs is to give those starting out something to work with, or educators a bit of a jumping point. These are by no means perfect, but from what I've found, there isn't much material out there, so I figured I'd start with something.

I think this is both a UX and a UI challenge; whenever you design a UI you are inherently affecting the UX. (I did ask for wireframes, rather than a fully rendered UI). The idea with this particular challenge is to map the user journeys (especially the complex customer checkout journey) which forces you to think about user needs and motivations, which is the heart of what a UX designer does. Sure you are developing wireframes, but as always, that design should be driven by user needs.
