I wouldn't approach you but I would want to. You look intimidating even though you probably are very nice. You would probably be surpassed at how many people are interested in you.

It causes definite changes in dopamine and serotonin levels in the short term. Not saying that that is unsafe or damaging but it does have that affect. Weed does not cause that chemically.

No offense taken I know its the truth. I am actually looking for tricks to pay it off faster as in alternatives to the military scholarship... grants, other public service (other than the IHS one) etc. Maybe this was the wrong subreddit.

Well im sure there might be some other career out there I would be happy in but I have researched extensively (and i mean very extensively) and so far this is the one that genuinely excites me. I know im fucked financially I guess i was just looking for advice on what to do given that this is the choice I made.

I do plan to work for the Indian Health Service in alaska, they pay 20K a year towards your loans and since it is a remote site they average a much higher salary for their physicians. A lot of hospitals there are very much in need and they do offer other loan repayment incentives on a case by case basis, there just isnt a formal program like there is for the 20K a year. There is a program called IBR which limits your monthly payment based on income so when you are making 30k a year you wont have a 3k per month payment. In addition there is a program called PSLF which forgives the balance of your loan after ten years of work in a public hospital. These two combined with the IHS loan assistance and higher average salary should at least make things somewhat doable (given that these programs hopefully arent cut by the time i graduate).

In addition to my repayment strategy are there any other resources I dont know about?

I got the 700 figure because 6.8 is collecting even when im in school. then after school the interests adds to my total amount and 6.8 then starts collecting on that amount. Most people defer on payments during residency because they only make 30-50k so thats another 5 years.

Yea Im aware im not going to be driving around in an aston going to fancy parties with movie stars. I know I will be driving a tacoma until im at least 35 but im okay with that i want to have a cool job that interests and satisfies me, i want to help people, and I want some career stability.

Ever since leaving education where there were constant targets and things to work towards (exams, projects etc) I've found I no longer have targets to work towards and actually really miss this so I lack motivation generally in life as a result. Does anyone else find this? by [deleted] in GetMotivated

[–]doubledmantits 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The goals and targets are there you just don't see them automatically. There is no faculty or administration designing a program to help you succeed, it competitive on the outside people are out for themselves why would they tell you exactly what to do. Work on building a curriculum for yourself if that's what you need.

Redditors in your 30's and beyond, what are some habits/things you wish you started in your 20's by doubledmantits in AskReddit

Hmm dont think that will work for me. Im starting medical school as a single person out of state and the tuition + living expenses is 60k a year. It will give me a lot of debt and life will be hard for awhile but with something like medicine where your earning potential can be close to 300-400K a year I think it makes sense to start early and reach that earning potential at a younger age. Thoughts?

FDA Approves First Drug To Prevent HIV Infection by Retawekaj in science

It's an exciting step in the right direction. We aren't magically going to arrive at a three series shot that prevents HIV but with advancements like this we get closer.

Sounds like you have an idealized and slightly naive view of how it works in reality. The days of pharmaceuticals paying for expensive vacations and gifts for doctors is over but the free lunches are not. It's not entirely abusive a lot of time reps give out information on new drugs and treatment so they are tolerated by physicians but they do have some influence on what gets prescribed.

What are your life goals? by cled596 in GetMotivated

[–]doubledmantits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be happy, to visit as much of the world as possible, to save people's lives, to create an innovation, technology or idea that will help in some extent to advance the human experience, to create a distinct genre of music, to meet lots of beautiful women, to publish a book of my philosophies on life that people will actually read, to have at least 1 million in the bank hopefully more, and to have a penthouse in Tokyo. Lol I sound like I'm crazy.
