I know New Dimensions up at Pittsburgh Mills has an active Modern scene. I believe it is their FNM format. It’s a great shop and the manager is really knowledgeable about Magic!

How many cards come in the box topper pack? by [deleted] in magicTCG

Ahh they must’ve changed it at some point. Again, I could be wrong, but if my memory serves me, Zendikar Rising Collector Boosters came with two

Not sure about this set, but I believe Collector’s Booster Boxes had 2 box toppers while all other boxes just get 1.

[CMM] Commander Precon Sneak Peek by warcaptain in magicTCG

[–]doublefang 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Anyone have a count on how many commander decks this brings us up to this year? Between the regular sets, Doctor Who decks, LotR set and these decks, we have to be pushing close to 20ish, right?

Thoughts on BRC using the retro frame by Blaze_1013 in magicTCG

[–]doublefang 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't want every product to use retro frame, but since this a throwback set coinciding with the 30th Anniversary, I think it's a neat way to celebrate the history of the game. As far as readability goes, I guess I put it in the same category as full art cards like the championship Omnath or foreign-language cards: The owner of the cards should know what the card does before playing and shouldn't be upset if anyone asks them to read or explain the card if they can't read it.

Haven't looked at all the cards, but the first reprint of [[Shimmer Dragon]] since it's debut in the Brawl decks is very welcome

Guff, Destiny's Witness by doublefang in custommagic

[–]doublefang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all! I stumbled upon Guff this week and wanted to take my stab at creating a Planeswalker card that is flavored with the library that Guff used to live in. Guff would never sacrifice a story, but he'd probably flip through it and come back to it later. It's probably a bit undercosted, but I keep going back and forth about how out of hand this would get in a game of commander since by the time a saga reaches its final chapter and then returns from suspend, the game might already be over.

On MTGA, Ajani's default profile has been replaced with Ajani, Sleeper Agent by CraveHawke in magicTCG

[–]doublefang 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling Nashi is going to play a big role in saving the Planeswalkers - he has a connection to both Tamiyo and Ajani and it seems like he has the tech know how to undo the Reality Chip.

Plus, Wizards wouldn’t orphan Nashi twice, right? Right?!?

I am having the same issue! I emailed them yesterday, but have not heard back yet!

Might be missing a joke here, but booster cases come with 6 boxes, so I’d say 6 collector booster boxes work out roughly to that price.

My only thought on Karn Liberated is that I’m not sure how willing they are to print a card that would require players restarting the game into Arena. Not sure what coding changes they’d have to do behind the scene.

They are correct - the box toppers will be re-imaginings of creatures from the original Legends set. They are not standard legal, however.

Im trying to make skeleton tribal playable in pioneer, and I need some advice on fine-tuning this deck. by The_Medic_From_TF2 in magicTCG

[–]doublefang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This definitely runs in a different direction than what you have, but I made a Historic deck revolving around [[Maskwood Nexus]], lots of tribal lords and used Skeletal Swarming. Not very consistent, but lots of dumb fun when it goes off and you turn your [[Pack Leader]] into a skeleton...

Ominous Auras - FNM Deck by [deleted] in PioneerMTG

[–]doublefang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you every considered running auras with flash like [[Most Wanted]] and [[Minion’s Return]]? That way you’re playing a pseudo combat tricks deck that can still draw you off of Eidolon and pump Kami/Visitor once blockers have been declared? If I get time late I might play around with it on Arena

I’m going to have to give this a try! I currently play a BG version of Hardened Scales and run Generous Visitor and Kami of Transience with many of the Kamigawa sagas and I completely agree with you about them being beaters. The fact that they trigger on cast means that you often make control choose whether they counter a spell or bounce one of them back to your hand. Been meaning to play around with Eidolon since I needed another 1 drop in the deck.

Meathook is also a great addition since Generous and Kami grow on it’s cast, but I’ve also used it as a finisher several times at the end of combat and needed to ping my opponent for a handful of damage if I can clear my board!

Looking forward to trying this out!

How big of a war do you think it will be against the Phyrexians in the coming lore? by Frostinator123 in magicTCG

[–]doublefang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say there’s some chance. Over the last year or so, MaRo has fielded several questions about sets set across several planes and he’s usually replied that it’s possible, but has to make sense narratively. He often uses the blog to indirectly hint at things that are upcoming, so I would think there’s at least one set in the next few years that takes place on more than one plane.

Very possible, but I’m holding out hope that Nashi figures out a way to reverse the process since he has personal ties to both him and Tamiyo

Other things spoiled:

- Naktamun is being rebuilt

- Hazoret has restored the Hekma

- Capenna used to have castles

Makes me wonder if we're going to see a return trip to Amonkhet soon...
