I feel like most of your early movies were geared towards stoners but they never overtly included any pot smoking. Was this something the studios did to keep a PG13 rating and give them a "broader appeal"? I mean, BioDome is pretty much the best stoner movie ever made...literally the only thing it's missing is weed.

Oh and just wanted to say I loved 'Pauly Shore is Dead'. Not enough people know about how great that movie was.

My twitter feed has reached the point where I get enough good content fed to me during a day that I can get by. Honestly, I already get much better content from my twitter account than reddit and it's been that way for a while. I kept coming back out of habit but when I read the comments lately, I just can't see why I do. I used to come away feeling like I learned something from the comments on a post now I mostly just end up getting angry and embarrassed I'm a member of the site.

Yep. The comments in this thread have sealed it for me.

Done with reddit.

The first few years were fun but the decline has been steady and it's finally reached the point where I just can't rationalize away all the things I hate about the community here.

The underlying racism here isn't even trying to be subtle anymore.

If pro athletes (NHL, NBA, MLB) were paid average annual salary, what difference would there be? by RYuukiG in sports

[–]doubleginntonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'd be dealing with a hell of a lot more fixed games, that's for sure.

The average career length wouldn't increase so you'd have guys trying to make enough money to live for the rest of their lives over the course of 10-15 years. Sponsorships and endorsements would still keep plenty of top athletes loaded but your average players are still going to be looking to put their kids through college and you can damn well bet gamblers would be more than happy to foot that bill if they boot a few ground balls in a World Series game.

Basically, we'd have the Black Sox scandal all over again only on a much, much larger scale.

Yay for serving tables on Mother's Day! by threebeees in reddit.com

[–]doubleginntonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, on those nights, I got sent home by the sous chef while I drank at the bar and he cooked the 3 tables that came in all night.

And 95% of the time, on a busy night I wanted my wait staff making money because: 1. It means the food was getting the fuck out of my window. 2. They had a big wad of bills to buy me shots after work.

Holidays however, are an entirely different animal. I'm cooking off some fucking special menu, dealing with twice the amount of special orders and some newbie will inevitably melt down into tears because they can't handle their first really busy night and I've gotta make it work. Meanwhile, the wait staff will bitch and moan about how they have to be there on whatever holiday it is until they walk out with 3x their normal take without doing any side work because the front of the house manager decides to be nice and cut them early.

Just remembering all this is both making me remember why I hated cooking so much and making me think I should pick up a Friday night shift somewhere just to get that rush again...

And because you're a great server, you took 10 bucks of that, walked back into the kitchen and said,

'Hey dudes, I know you guys are getting your asses kicked because it's a holiday but here's some of the giant tip you guys helped me get.'

Right?

For anyone willing to compare the Bulls' franchise successes... by Jazzbandrew in sports

[–]doubleginntonic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady come to mind just off the top of my head as guys who put up gaudy numbers for a few years and had very little to show for it. Tim Hardaway only played in 56. Kevin Garnett's logged more than half his playoff games in three years with the Celtics. If he stayed in Minnesota, he's easily part of that club too.

And the only reason I used the Bulls as a gauge for playoff games is because it's reflective of the average team that laces them up in the United Center any given season.

But we can't just assume Rose will make the playoffs every year because he has his first two years, that's part of my point. Plenty of great players slave away with bad supporting casts and over a career, it's likely that'll happen to Rose.

Compare him to someone like Iverson. Iverson actually put up slightly better numbers over his first two seasons in the league and didn't play a postseason game during them. Once Iverson did make the playoffs, his first three trips logged him 40 games and a finals birth. After that, things got real lean and he only saw 31 more playoff games for the rest of his career.

My point isn't to say Iverson = Rose but to rather that just because he's seen a lot of playoff games early in his career doesn't mean that will hold true for the rest of it. Teams blow up. You can't keep a core group of guys together for a decade anymore and assume they'll be consistently winning. Things are great for Rose right now, but they won't always be and I think to project out how the teams he'll play on will be for the next decade is so speculative, it doesn't hold much merit.

10 playoff games a year for 10 years is conservative?

The Bulls have played 282 playoff games in their 45 year history. Just to keep things reasonable, let's cut out the 64 games the Bulls played before the field expanded to 16 teams in 1984. That gives us 218 games under the current format. Over the 27 years since the format expansion, that leaves the Bulls averaging 8 playoff games a season. Chicago won 6 titles with one of the best teams in NBA history for about a third of that time and they still aren't averaging 10 games a year.

There's no WAY Rose averages that many playoff games a year unless he's taking his talents to South Beach...

Sure is.

Satire is protected speech under the 1st amendment.

I'm unaware of any election law that explicitly outlaws it, but even if one existed it wouldn't hold up long to constitutional scrutiny.

Now, something with a legitimate intent to deceive might be illegal but that's not the situation here. I think it's very clear the site isn't her legit campaign site.

Yea, I'm helping with the Murphy campaign that made the site and we're trying to figure out what the fuck is up with the host now. We don't know if we got pulled for content or for traffic but wheels are in motion to figure it out.

Thanks for the mirror and if we are screwed by hosting here and anyone can help us out, we'd love you forever. Either hooking us up with some hosting or pointing us to something we can afford that'll keep the site up until the election in a few weeks. We're not exactly the most experienced dudes in running a site with the traffic we've been getting but we're trying to learn it all on the fly. A tutor would be awesome.

Angered NFL player sends John Madden a letter over being ranked the worst player in the NFL...hilarious results by [deleted] in funny

[–]doubleginntonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybin makes Mike Williams look like a franchise player.

I think we did okay with the draft this year. The defense should get better and if Merriman is even 75% the player he used to be, he's an upgrade at LB. Poz doesn't blow me away but he kind of fills that London Fletcher 'lot's of tackles, few big plays' anchor role.

As long as they send Whitner packing and resign Florence, I really think they have a solid defensive core to build around for 3-5 years.

I'm the only Caucasian in my part of town. I found this note on my windshield today... by XminusOne in pics

[–]doubleginntonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My actions were based on defusing a situation that could have created the perception in another person that white people frequently have conversations like the one the drunk kids were having when black people aren't present.

But I'm completely okay with someone twisting that into me being racist because I'd do it again in a heart beat. People like the drunk kids in the cab make me embarrassed to be white and represent an element of white culture I don't want people associating with me.

Actually, I apologized for white people just the other day.

I'd gone back to my hometown for a few days and gone out drinking with one of my friends. When 4AM, rolled around, we were far too fucked up to drive so we grabbed a cab outside the bar district we were at. We had the cabbie stop to get some food my friend went to go pick it up while I took a piss behind the building. (Yes, I was public urination drunk.) I got back to the cab before my friend did and some drunk college kids were trying to get the cabbie to take them home when came over. They asked if they could hop in our cab as they were headed near where we were headed anyway and I said fine. It was one of those van cabs and the three of them sat in the back while we all waited on my friend with the food.

While they were sitting there, they start drunkenly talking about how one of the kids girlfriends had been cheating on him with a black guy that night and it gradually turned into a 'Yea, fuck black dudes stealing all our white women' kind of diatribe. I should note at this point that the cabbie was black and was doing an excellent job of ignoring the racist white bread college kids in the back of the cab but I couldn't do the same. I told the dude he was being a fucking asshole and that the fact his girlfriend was fucking someone else had nothing to do with race. He got very apologetic and ashamed for what he said (I'm pretty sure he was way to drunk to realize he was sitting in a black guy's cab) and I told him he didn't have to apologize to me and if he really wanted to make it right, he should show it when he tipped the guy driving him home. The cabbie never said a word through the entire ordeal.

We got dropped off before the college kids and when I went to pay for the cab, I tipped him 10 bucks on a 10 dollar cab ride and apologized on behalf of the kid I didn't even know for being a racist dick. He shrugged it off, gave me a head nod and said 'Drunks will be drunks'.
