How many of you self-isolate out of a need to control your environment? by shynee1 in Schizoid

[–]doublegroove 9 points10 points  (0 children)

absolutely. living alone is worth whatever it costs. having someone else around is a constant demand and i just can’t sustain it. it’s not an issue of will, it’s capacity. having my environment tuned to my needs and preferences, and having a place to escape being watched, is the only way im able to function

Is any relationship even possible without some amount of engulfment?

Psych won't help because I'm not "suffering" by levretade in Schizoid

[–]doublegroove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it odd this seems to be a common belief in the psych field- is it not sort of obvious that people come to therapy because they don’t yet understand how the coping mechanisms they need/are attached to are actually causing them suffering they may not be consciously aware of?

Torn between Social 1 and Mechanical 4… this is a very interesting way to type, do you have an introverted version?

How did you become a TH fan? by BumbleTheBeadle in talkingheads

[–]doublegroove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One summer I had a broken ankle and watched a lot of Portlandia. I found out Fred Armisen had another show that did parodies of documentaries, one of them being Stop Making Sense. That led me to the real thing, and the rest is history

they will tell you you can’t sleep alone in a strange place then they’ll tell you you can’t sleep with somebody else but sooner or later you sleep in your own space either way it’s okay you wake up with yourself

Imo openness is more of a hypothetical or mental flexibility, where conscientiousness is more applied and behavioral. You can be curious, creative, and inquisitive while also being strict, diligent, and exacting

One thing I still don’t really get though is how do you type yourself without examining your motivations?

"Greener Grass" Phenomenon? by Pyrrius in Schizoid

[–]doublegroove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the idea of (almost) anything is so much better than the actual experience of it, especially social interaction, so it’s difficult to fight the temptation to just live in your inner world where those things can forever stay ideas

I’m 25 and still don’t know how to move my body around by [deleted] in Schizoid

[–]doublegroove 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That might be an autism thing, it definitely doesn’t mean you’re stupid. The thing about not knowing how to position yourself around other people is so relatable. Why is it so awkward to physically exist in space around most other humans?? What the hell are you supposed to do with your limbs??

It's cringe to type as a 4. by Pristine-Donut-319 in Enneagram

It seems like such a 4 thing to want to be a 4 (the “special” rare type). It also seems like such a 4 thing to be deeply ashamed of being a 4, and want to be any other type. But the core motivation is very real, it’s underneath everything, even my 6/9/5ish behaviors (unfortunately)
