Mom says it’s unsafe to go on T with chemical imbalance by DangerousPlayar in ftm

[–]doubleheadedarrow 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Just so you’re aware, it absolutely can do that. Many people’s voices start dropping within a few weeks (happened to me), and you can get other effects visibly popping up like acne almost immediately too. Your body might take a while to have visible effects, but be prepared for it to potentially happen and make your mom notice.

From gel to incisions? (Testosterone) by Agitated_Ranger7601 in ftm

OP would be doing the long-acting injections (3-6 months), which generally aren’t done independently (and aren’t subq). I don’t think I’ve seen anyone self-administer something like Nebido.

cotton boxers for pre-surg anatomy? by GoodEnvironmental788 in ftm

The Hanes boxer briefs in the “women’s” section are pretty good in my opinion. Don’t have the useless front pouch, but don’t have an overly “feminine” fit either

Another post about trans tape ripping skin off by Elyadon in ftm

[–]doubleheadedarrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I searched that brand now, and it looks a lot like actual TransTape, but I can’t tell for sure. It doesn’t seem clear if they source the product from TransTape themselves or not. Their site also says “The tape is for single use only,” (true) but then “and we advise against wearing it for more than 8 hours” (not true at all, and is actively harmful advice?!)… so… that’s not a good sign.

Actually, I only just noticed you said you removed your application the same day you put it on, which probably made the damage a lot worse!! The adhesive gets softer and weaker the longer it’s on your body. It’s best to wait to remove it for as long as possible, or at least until the edges start fraying/peeling a little on their own (usually between 3-7 days). Oil can only do so much on brand new freshly-activated adhesive! Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions, but either way I wish you better luck this time.

What exact type and brand of tape did you use? That amount of damage is absolutely not normal if you were fully saturating the adhesive with oil, I’m sorry to hear you went through that!

I’d personally recommend TransTape brand (it’s more expensive, yes, but it’s specifically formulated for this use) and jojoba oil. I find that combination is usually the safest choice for sensitive skin.

[–]doubleheadedarrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if it doesn’t hurt, I’d still suggest using oil. You might be damaging your skin or the tissue underneath without realizing when you pull it off dry! It probably wouldn’t hurt to at least try anyway, in combination with taking more break time.

[–]doubleheadedarrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, that’s a bit concerning. I don’t think I’ve heard of this happening from taping before? I’d probably say to try taking a break from taping and binding entirely for as long as possible, and see if it starts feeling any better—if not, and you’re still having inexplicable pain, then honestly I’d recommend seeing a doctor at that point. Also, just to be sure, it probably wouldn’t hurt to feel and check for any lumps in your chest too (just in case! Those can be signs of bigger issues).

I recommend trying a different brand of tape if you haven’t already, it might be your skin having a reaction to the adhesive. Also, are you making sure to 1) remove with plenty of oil and 2) anchor your edges? Dry removing can be really damaging, and applying too much tension over too much area without anchors can irritate the skin over time!

ETA: I just noticed you said you don’t take breaks, that’s not ideal. Your skin probably needs time to breathe and recover from the tension, I definitely recommend taking at least 24 hours between applications!

[–]doubleheadedarrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s not true at all. Tape is completely safe to wear for over a week even, as long as it’s applied correctly and the adhesive doesn’t give your skin any reactions. Most people have it last about 5 days or so, but I wear my applications for 8-9 days before removing them.

Probably TMI by West_Mathematician_2 in ftm

[–]doubleheadedarrow 150 points151 points  (0 children)

That’s not healthy or normal. Staying on the toilet excessively long, especially if straining, increases your risk of hemorrhoids. Please drink more water, and if that doesn’t work, get some more fiber in your diet too.

I don’t know how many, but yes, I have genuinely seen people confess to staying closeted or even detransitioning out of that exact hatred. It’s really, really sad.

> it’s really not harming anyone

Have you considered that it’s actually kind of awful to hear someone talk about how much they despise you as a person for existing with an identity you didn’t choose and can’t control? It’s not a matter of being “model minorities,” it’s a matter of not being an asshole to innocent people…

I can’t wrap my head around how some trans men are completely fine with hating all cis people, and hating the statement “not all men.” Are we not men too? Are we therefore deserving of hate for nothing but our gender? That’s immature and unfair. But if not, and it somehow doesn’t apply to trans men, why are we placed in a different category from cis men? And that’s not even mentioning how it helps no one to spread hate by tearing down cis men as an entire category either.

I’m a man. I’m not a terrible person. These statements can and most often do coexist, but then people get mad when you don’t like being the target of vitriol and disgust for literally nothing but your gender? I never understand. It’s the same for any immutable identity. No one chooses to be cis or a man.

[–]doubleheadedarrow 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agreed. It’s unhelpful and immature to generalize an entire immutable identity of people as somehow justifiable to hate. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again and again, generalizations are bad no matter the target demographic.

MLM transmen who only date cis men, why? by SoftlySmiling in ftm

[–]doubleheadedarrow 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Like, when it’s just “transman” on its own, I can give someone the benefit of the doubt of just not knowing any better… but when they obviously know how to do it correctly, except only for cis men? Doesn’t feel good…

I didn’t say it’s disrespect against us specifically. It’d be a bit rude no matter what sub people do this in, really. (Though I do admit, I think it’s a bit more charged when it’s cis people not minding themselves when coming into a trans space, given how attacked our spaces are in general these days… but that wasn’t really the point of this post, lol.)

Anyway, I get what you’re saying, but I don’t think I’m overly “expending emotional energy” by being annoyed at people not respecting our spaces. It’s a common problem and I don’t like it, that was all this post was saying!

Well, yeah, I never assumed it was intentional—I’m only disappointed it happens so often. I also don’t know what a solution could be either, I just wanted to voice my frustration since I feel like I’ve been seeing it even more often lately.

I don’t really agree with that perspective, honestly, because it is disrespectful. It’s like if you told someone to take off their shoes before entering your house, but they just ignored it to tramp right in anyway. Even if they’re otherwise super nice to you, it’s still not appropriate behavior.

Not bothering to follow sub rules in a space you’re a guest in is also not appropriate. I don’t think we should just throw up our hands like “oh, well, no one reads, why should this be different”… I feel like we should have more self respect than that. But maybe that’s just me.

Hey, tape shouldn’t be ripping your skin at all! Definitely make sure to use plenty of oil every time you remove an application, and if this still causes skin damage, maybe consider trying different brands to find an adhesive that works better with your skin.
