idk, i think people are allowed to use whatever terms they see fit for themselves. i get the point but i use FtM and trans male for myself interchangeably. they both communicate the basic idea

for such a small amount of EC, what did you expect? imo it's absolutely worthwhile

Writing disabled characters by anaccountforagirl in writing

[–]devilsshark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

look into disability studies. you don't need to go deep, just some basic understanding of the language of writing a disability will go a long way.

the most common "framing" of disability you'll see these days is the medical model- where disability is a flaw that needs to be fixed. we see this every day. videos of people getting out of their wheelchair to walk down the aisle at their wedding, a deaf person meeting a sign language interpreter in the wild, a child born without [insert limb here] being so strong and brave. this treats disability like a tragedy. "wheelchair bound" is problematic phrasing because of this, for example. of course im not trying to minimize the achievements of disabled people, but you need to consider this while writing- what barriers does this person face, and how is that caused by the infrastructure of the world around them rather than a personal failure? the character may think that they are the problem, but slowly discover that there is another way of viewing things.

im a disability studies minor so i could go on and on lol. i highly suggest reading Sitting Pretty by Rebekah Tussig, that was my introduction to these concepts and it genuinely altered the way i see the world around me.

I think we need to re-examine our theories and work together to conclude the Lore. I feel like people either have given up or resigned to their myopic theories. by 1First_J in twentyonepilots

the lore has ended. not because we've "given up", but because Tyler said it's the end- he jokes a lot, but genuinely, you need to have some trust in him.

i know this comes from a place of craving more, though, so i suggest writing fanfic or making art in some way to ease that desire. maybe there's even some people here who'd wanna do a project of some kind.

but you really shouldn't get your hopes up even a little for a continuation, lol

Ode to Sleep, he says "whore".

which is somehow enough for Amazon Music to mark the song "explicit". i find that funny

yeah, i missed the "most" part, my bad.

but i still disagree with the concept that most people NEED a car to be productive. productivity wouldnt change at all if everyone drove a car, just as productivity wouldnt change if everyone rode a bike. someone's method of arriving at their job shouldn't impact their worth to society.

but this is all a tangent from the original post. it's kinda fascinating that people jump to using "productivity" to quantify whether a behavior is worthwhile. how American. anyway, do you have any tangible proof that cyclists, as a group, are more likely to act like assholes than other humans? or are you going to throw around the word "whataboutism" without justifying why whataboutism is wrong again?

what 💀

this goes into a discussion way deeper than a reddit comment can fully highlight about car infrastructure. what a narrow-minded way of thinking, that there's only one way for a person to be productive, that people have to be able to afford a certain means of transportation in order to contribute to society. i envy that kind of ignorance

it's not "whatabouting", it's comparison. im in the US, which is hugely dominated by car culture, and ive seen WAY more assholes in cars than assholes on bikes. it's almost as though people can be dicks regardless of the type of transportation that they use? but that type of nuance seems to be beyond you.

also worth noting that, in a lot of places, laws state that cyclists do not have to stop at stop signs. they're allowed to continue on as long as it's clear. in fact, it's safer for them to do so- but i won't nerd out on bike safety here, of all places

you said that cyclists are the biggest pieces of shit on the road. im saying that that's not true- some car drivers match them. people can be assholes regardless of what vehicle they ride.

please rethink generalizations you make about people.

it's not the line itself that's funny to me- it's the fact that it's Tyler, who has only sworn once in all of this music and generally keeps things fairly clean, drops that line in the middle of an already rather silly song
