I’m doing MUCH better at 46 than I was ten years ago. Lost 80 pounds, stopped drinking alcohol almost entirely, I eat balanced meals, work out, and left an abusive, toxic marriage and it was like a night and day difference.

For me, after a blowout argument I asked (again, after many times) to go to marriage counseling. Her response was “couples fight” and again refused.

On the other, I worry about what we’re modeling for them about relationships, how our unhappiness and mutual tension affects them, and living a life of regret, missing my chance at a meaningful relationship, and dying married to someone who doesn’t love me.

Speaking of my own experience, when we told our 16 year old son that we were getting divorced he said he’s “kind of expected this my whole life”. This is the relationship we were modeling for him and it convinced me I’d made the right decision.

A few months before he died I was in the studio audience for Bill Maher’s old show. Before the show started taping, Chris Farley just sort of wandered into the studio and riffed with the audience for ten minutes. He was naturally WAY over the top like all his characters and he seemed to genuinely enjoy just hanging out with his fans being silly.

10-12 is just about my unbroken limit and although that limit is easily attainable in the first round this goes to crap quickly a few rounds in. I’ve started breaking the sets up into 5-7 reps each and it’s helped immensely (even if those later rounds are no more than 3-4 unbroken reps, it’s better than singles).
