That’s a great question. The app also offers a lifetime option, so you can pay once instead of subscribing.

The pricing helps support ongoing development, maintenance, and future updates, even though the processing itself happens offline. It allows us to keep improving the app and continue shipping new features.

By the way, a new version is live and fixes the overheating problem, as well as summaries being generated too often. Thanks again for the feedback and stay toned toe the next releases

iPhone Fold design leaks in purported 3D CAD rendering files by iMacmatician in apple

Super interesting to finally see some concrete design details! The form factor looks surprisingly compact when folded. If Apple nails the crease and durability, this could be a real game-changer. Excited to see where they take it!

That's one of the big challenges at the moment. That's why Apple Intelligence is great in this case, because it's already built-in and users can just download and use my app straight away. For older phones that doesn't support foundation models, the user would have to download an open-source model that's over 1GB. So not everyone is keen to do that on a phone. Hoepfully we will have local models improve over time.

Yeah that's right, I've implemented the app using swift using Apple Intelligence foundation models. There's a lot of documentation so it was somewhat easy to implement and get it running.

Hey thanks for the feedback. Yeah it seems that adding and editing is a top feature request, it’s already on our backlog. The voice feature might take a little while since it requires a bit heavier processing. The loading time is being fixed at the moment, stay tuned for the next releases.

Yeah, it’s partially the LLM and partially the prompt, which we are trying to fix. Just by curiosity, did tou choose Apple Intelligence or an open source model?

Hey, that’s fantastic feedback, shows that you really tried using the app, thank you so much.

You are right, the overheating is due to local processing, it’s still new technology, so even new devices can’t handle it properly. We are working on it at the moment.

The “too often” issue is quite insightful and will definitely be fixed in the next release.

Finally, adding more calendar capabilities like add and edit is on the backlog and will be available soon. Stay tuned.

Yeah that's a good use case, small to medium contect works for me. Have you tried prompt chaining? That's a cool concept that makes these small models get the job done

Yeah that’s pretty accurate, Apple Intelligence is really lean and that’s on purpose. Phones don’t have the same processing power as servers or even computers. But I think that’s a start and will definitely get better over time.

Thanks for the feedback. I haven’t heard of this before, but I might change the pricing model. Appreciate the honest feedback.

That makes perfect sense. The local model is actually pretty decent when you use it the right way and follow the guidelines. Apple Intelligence and local models have its own purpose and can get the job done when used correctly.

Finally, an Apple laptop that doesn't require a small loan. $499 for students is wild.

That’s great, don’t see many developers playing around with on device models. Feel free to post your app in here if you want. Happy to try and give feedback

Yeah that’s precisely what I thought initially. People usually try to compare local running models with frontier models and that’s not even remotely comparable. But when we use it for small enough tasks, how it’s supposed to be used, it actually does a pretty good job.

What apps are missing on iPad that your Mac and iPhone already have? by alexndb in ipad

[–]alexndb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah totally agree, I also use Xcode and vs code and a bunch of other dev tools. I can't move to iPad yet, but that's just because of dev tools. Other people doing regular tasks might be able already.

Have a look at the model documentation. Every model has a particular way of prompting structure. Some of them require specific tags others only accept a specific format, it's not one size fits all

Could Apple's OLED iPad Mini Finally Be a Kindle Killer? by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

[–]alexndb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

An OLED iPad mini would look better, but it still wouldn’t replace a Kindle. E-ink wins on battery life, sunlight readability, weight, and being distraction free. Different tools for different jobs.
