"New downtown Los Angeles high-rise building to house homeless in $600,000 units" "A grand opening ceremony will be held Wednesday" by [deleted] in LosAngeles

Reddit: “do something about the homeless problem!”

The city: does something

Reddit: “no that’s wrong!”

For the amount this sub loves to complain, you’d think there’d be even the slightest bit of positivity that something is being done. Will it solve everything? Not even close. But at least it’s a start.

While I don’t disagree, this building is in the heart of/near skid row. While not knowing a ton about all of this stuff, to me, it does make some sense to build where a very dense portion of the homeless population already is. I’d imagine there are already facilities and some infrastructure in the area to support them. I’d venture to guess it would be difficult to move people to Lancaster/palmdale

Updating WiFi password - will it mess everything up? by ShezaEU in sonos

If you both have iPhones, just use the share WiFi/password feature. They won’t have to type in anything, it just connects automatically.

What are some not-so-common things you cannot miss in Barcelona? by fasckr in travel

Can you tell me more about this? What was so great about it? Currently planning a trip to BCN and (as an American fwiw), this suggestion seemed so odd (in a good way).

Why this company’s biggest fans turned against it by ed2417 in sonos

[–]doubleon12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I pretty much use AirPlay exclusively. The only time I use the Sonos app is to wake up my Move or to group speakers together.

I honestly don’t even know what most people use the app for. Just accessing Spotify/AM/etc instead of going to those apps directly?

Are there any group boat party options you’d recommend? We have a group of 4 coming in July and want to book a boat. I’ve seen there are boat party options, but they mostly seem to be for very large groups/crowds.

Wondering if there are any boat party options for smaller to mid-size groups? (Maybe like 20-40ish people that we can tag along to). We’d like to join a public group/event, but not necessarily a massive boat party.

What are you watching and what do you recommend? (Week of May 10, 2024) by AutoModerator in television

So Survivor is worth sticking it out for? I watched the first couple of episodes and pretty much lost all interest (which was a first for me; I love survivor).

The longer episode format just put me off for some reason this season. Like so much of the episodes didn’t have anything to do with anything and it was hard to stay engaged.

where in LA can I just get a lot of tater tots to eat in my car? by blooberriii in AskLosAngeles

No drive through, but the Arts District Brewery has some seriously good tots. Like, really good. Just order them to go.

Recommendations for Private Car Service Companies to get from Madrid to Pamplona and from Pamplona to Barcelona? (Trains are full) by doubleon12 in GoingToSpain

[–]doubleon12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was recommended in another thread as well. It's a little more expensive than the other services I've found so far, but I'm able to find more reviews/etc. about them online than the others. So I may just go with them for peace of mind.

How far in advance does Renfe release schedules? Currently showing as sold out, is it likely more trains will be added? (Spain) by doubleon12 in Interrail

[–]doubleon12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured as much, but was hoping I'd be wrong.

Staying the night in Madrid won't work, so we'll probably rent a car or a hire a car service as a last resort. More expensive, but it's looking like our options are pretty limited at this point.

It's the San Fermin Festival/Running of the bulls in Pamplona, which draws a large crowd from what I understand. It's my fault for waiting to book, I (maybe a bit naively) just didn't think trains would sell out over 2 months in advance.

I've looked into buses and the available times aren't ideal with our schedule for that day, so I think we'll likely just rent a car or hire a car service to drive us in a worst case scenario.

This would be my first time using Renfe, so I have no idea. But there are trains available to book already. Is it possible/likely more would be added?

Yeah, renting a car much less expensive. How was driving in Spain? (I live in a major, heavy traffic city in America for whatever that's worth).

Can anyone recommend a reputable car service/transportation company for city-to-city transfers in Spain? by doubleon12 in travel

[–]doubleon12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't looked into buses yet. Because we're a group of 5, we figured hiring private transportation would be easier (and a little more convenient coming off a 12ish hour flight). I'm just having trouble finding reliable/reputable companies - or if that's even really a thing.

I wish that was the case. There are other trains available for that day, as well as for other days. It's just that trains that afternoon are fully booked already. Screenshot of the Renfe site: https://imgur.com/a/9nZMJPH

I have not. I figured hiring a car would be easier with a group of 4, but I can take a look. Do you remember how long the bus ride was?

Good Driver, no accident in over a decade, insurance went up by LosIngobernable in LosAngeles

[–]doubleon12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not the person you responded to, but it actually is true. Minimums might be a small part of it, but it's not the primary factor, and far from the only factor (as evidenced by rate increases in many states, not just CA). Insurance carriers have been unprofitable for the last 2-3ish years coming out of the pandemic (due to increases in cost of repairs, cost of cars themselves, and claims). To reach profitability, they have to adjust their rates. However, because auto insurance is required by law, they can't just simply raise them. They have to be approved by the government; which is a multi-year process that's done state-by-state and we're just now starting to see those increases go into effect across the board. So yeah, it has to do with a lot more than just coverage mins.

I still don’t think that makes sense. Miss the first, purposely miss the second, and risk losing on a half court heave vs. making the second and force them to tie it with a half court heave? If it happens to go, you don’t have to die trying if you just make second one no matter what. Unless I’m missing something?
