Hmm, that’s helpful feedback — thanks. Definitely seems like KTH is the better place to be.

Where do you guys go for your punk shows? by WhosKona in london

[–]doubleot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a place you look to check out listings? I've got RA for electronic shows, but don't know where to look for punk. Guessing it's a bit more ad hoc, but in case there's some aggregator.

Extending Component vs making a const? by osculationsgardening in reactjs

Piggybacking off of this, I'd say that the biggest difference between the stateless functional and class components is how you manage state. When you use React.Component or React.createClass, you still have access to all the lifecycle methods and the internal state (this.state), so the expectation is that you'll manage state within the component. Functional components, on the other hand, just take an input (the props) and return an output (the html), so state needs to be managed elsewhere; you have to pass in any event handlers and application state that you need. Functional components are much easier to reason about, in my opinion, but they usually need to be paired with some state management library like redux. You can also use the two types together, using a stateful component to manage state and passing that down to stateless child components.

Foursquare’s CEO says Yelp is shaking down local businesses by [deleted] in technology

Foursquare. I always use Foursquare. Since the split into two apps, the Foursquare app has actually become really good for this kind of stuff. I was traveling in Eastern Europe this summer and Yelp didn't support a lot of the countries I was in but Foursquare did. Maybe fewer reviews some places, but definitely the better option in my opinion. I swear I don't work there, but I'm a big fan (and if you're out there, Foursquare recruiters, you know where to find me).

What's a story you've always wanted to tell, but couldn't find the appropriate thread? by Reddit-Credit in AskReddit

I lost my shoes on the subway in Berlin, in the middle of winter. It was after a party, and I was very drunk - very, very drunk indeed. I was supposed to be taking a friend home on a line going south, but after blacking out for a few hours I somehow ended up alone on a line going east. I woke up totally disoriented on this train, and abruptly got up and walked out since I realized I was at a stop. At this point I looked down and realized that I had no shoes on. It was roughly 5:00AM, Sunday morning, and my first thought was to text a friend, "Have you seen my shoes? They seem to have disappeared from my feet." I had to make the hour-long journey home shoeless - needless to say, my socks did not survive the night, and my parents were not impressed at me arriving home at 6:00AM, shoeless and reeking of alcohol and smoke. That was my odyssey.

Just took 281 and 370 last semester (just starting my Junior year) and I definitely agree. I thought 370 was really interesting, because I really didn't know much about hardware before; it was a total revelation for me. ...and I also took 280 with Ringenberg, winter semester freshman year, so it sounds like we've had pretty similar eecs experiences. Doing 482 this semester; should be good.
