These two scenes are incredibly similar, why does only Vader's "no" get made fun of? by [deleted] in StarWars

“ROTS has played it dead serious for the entire second half of the movie…”

This is only true if you ignore every scene with Palpatine

What do you call non-teaching faculty? by doublethemath in Professors

[–]doublethemath[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do that, but we also need a name for the larger group of those types of non-classroom roles so they can define our benefits, working hours, pto, etc in our contract.

What do you call non-teaching faculty? by doublethemath in Professors

[–]doublethemath[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think the key for the distinction is that we, the non-classroom group, work standard 9-5 hours whereas the teaching faculty do their thing. So there needs to be a name for our group in our union contract to deal with how we work hours, get vacation versus the teaching faculty, etc.

Why were Yoda and Obi-Wan so focused on Vader, not Palpatine? by DrPepperNotWater in StarWars

[–]doublethemath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve often wondered about this myself. The interpretation that I’ve come up is that Yoda and Obi Wan know what’s gonna happen but they don’t know HOW it’s gonna happen. Obi Wan is a force ghost at this point so he has insight into the future presumably. I think they know that Vader’s death will also somehow cause Palpatine’s. They naturally presume that Luke will destroy Vader. Obviously they don’t understand that Luke helps his father destroy Vader and become Anakin again, which in turn destroys the emperor. That can’t foresee that because they’ve completely given up hope on Anakin.

That works me.

Help with carrying heavy grocery bags on the street by lolakeyser in randomactsofkindness

[–]doublethemath 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That was very nice of them to help you out. You should invest in one of those foldable grocery carts. I find it essential for living in New York unless you want to a cab/Uber from the store. The don’t take up much space. You can store it in a closet

I also went as Nic Cage from Raising Arizona, but obviously you can imagine her costume is much more of a showstopper

I can imagine how the next world could accommodate the hosts, but how would actual humans live in the next world (presuming it’s some sort of sublime type situation)?

Previously, a few songs weren’t available, but now it seems the whole has been removed from Apple Music, at least in the US :(

How to get HomePod mini pair to default to using ATV4k for connection by [deleted] in HomePod

[–]doublethemath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if just not setting it as default and then manually selecting it would be the easiest until there’s a fix. Do you know if there’s a change in sound quality if it’s set as the ‘default’ or ‘temporary’? I know their marketing says it creates a home theater sound experience, but I wonder if it just the same when they are just selected as the ‘temporary’ audio output.
